Beards going to make a hell of a coach for someone. Like I’ve pointed out to you before from my old account, it’s always interesting to read the negative comments people make about him, without ever mentioning the success he has had at that historically bad school.
You have those that cannot make valid points or have a discussion so they just act like a child, Ignore those people. They are part of the problem.
Beard is a reall good coach and UK should definitely contact him if a change is to be made.

I think folks are taking this covid excuse Cal threw out and running with it. He had 42 days with this team before their 1st game. FORTY TWO. They had more practice time this year than any year Cal has been here.
What most are upset about is the constant turnover of the roster. You cannot build cohesion when you're having to introduce yourself to everyone to learn their names.
You're actually making the arguement for those that are upset.
Cal's best teams had experience players mixed in with elite freshman. UK has 10 new players to their team this year. That is not a recipe for a successful team or season.
The problem is not so much this year per se, it's the trend that has been happening for a few years now. It's just caught up with Cal this year, but he hasn't realized it or he has and just sin't going to change.
If this year becomes what it appears it will, how will next year be any better? Several will leave regardless if theyr'ere ready and it will be deja vu all over again.
Those that are upset realize that it's not likely Cal will change his approach or his style of play. This year shows how poorly this team is put together.
Five games in and Cal decides Clarke is the PG. It didn't dawn on him during all those practices or the the other 4 games that PG was a problem on this team?
Last year we started the season with a goal. You may think that goal was to win the national title and win all the games. It was to get eight players drafted ...

"The mission statement for me would be to be a vehicle to help others reach their dreams, to be the stone that creates the ripple in their lives that goes on and on and on. Now, in our state, they want my mission to be WIN NATIONAL TITLES! WIN NATIONAL TITLES! But my mission is bigger than that."

There really isn't anything you could do. If you try colluding with others to make his work conditions or life unbearable, not only will UK come out looking awful, they will also face legal action and a larger than life financial payout.

Most fans are pretty onboard with keeping Cal for a long time.

Cal and his family love getting this fanbase fired up. If they start treating him or his family bad, expect the ramifications to be far worse for UK and fand than for Cal and co. He can easily move his family out of state and just run the program so far into the ground it can't recover. His wife and dogs are the only ones that live here still.
To play your game...

Lol, you care way too much about a careless, useless metric.

If we’ve won the most games and still trail most titles by 3, it's nothing more than a consolation prize.

KU having 3 titles and 2nd most wins should tell you all you need to know. If Gonzaga stays in that ****** conference they play in, they will eventually pass everyone with 0 titles so far. Hell, WKU is top 15 on the all time wins list!

I haven't told Cal he is done, I've told him to change; You said it yourself, he quits, walks out on Kentucky. He is incapable of putting the needs of the program ahead of his. Why would I want that coach?

He is a quitter. He opted to leave the program that he so dearly loved because they asked him to change his focus to a more traditional approach in college basketball focusing on player development, reducing roster turnover and commit to actions that bring enthusiasm back to the fanbase.

But I'm confident I can find a coach who can beat Georgia Tech at Rupp and turn in sweet 16 and elite 8 performances at a regular clip.

You think I have to replace 2012 Cal. I have to replace 2020 Cal.

You are the one that wants Cal to coach to suit your preferences. He says he’s not changing. You say you are “confident”, you can find someone who will equal or exceed Cal’s performance. Who is it? Make the case for Cal’s replacement.

It would make things more palatable. But, still getting old with these teams that are awful the first 2-3months of the season then pull it together

nope, I have no desire to debate the merits of another coach.

if you don't think we can find a coach that start off better with 1-4 and still get to elite 8s then you haven't studied the history of our coaches here at UK. Cal has you so convinced there is no one better you justify a 1-4 start heading toward a possible NIT appearance, at best a bad seed in the tournament as a hard challenge to overcome- believing a competent coaching search would result in someone doing worse.

if you want to talk about potential coaches, just take all the names that have been mentioned here and then tell me why you don't think they are good enough to replace Calipari. Its only been done 20 times here before in the last 3 weeks, we could both save some time and just cut and paste from other threads.

If you can‘t make the case that you if could replace Cal with someone who would equal or exceed Cal’s success so be it. To answer your question, I don’t know of a coach who could replace Cal who would equal or exceed his performance. Thus, suggesting “I’ll find a coach who can replace him” is an inadequate response.

I‘m simply waiting for one of the people on this board who wants Cal to go to make the case for the coach that will equal or exceed Cal’s performance.

of course you don't, that's why I'm not going to give you a list. Your response to any coach I name is he isn't better, and then you'd expect me to invest the time trying to convince you of a position you aren't changing on

To you Calipari is irreplaceable. You don't make a case to someone who has closed their mind to discussion.

Agree. And for many, the BLM stuff is used by them to say "we got him now!!!" They already hated him and are pitifully blowing that stuff way out of proportion because they have an agenda. I've asked several of them to show me anytime in the last several months that he's supported that movement. They can't do it because he hasn't once he figured it all out, as many did. Name a single coach anywhere that is out front supporting that movement? They can't do it.

There is a commercial with several, if not all of the blue blood coaches coming out for BLM. As they should have.

Those who deny white privilege deny history.

There are coaches out there we can get that would do a good job.
There is no doubt about this.

But some people are living in a dream world if they think we are in a period of college basketball where you can get by just on name.

Kids aren't coming to UK because they want to be here. Most don't even understand the history of the program. They are coming in large part due to who the coach is and the players they want to play along with.

lol nope.

This is why tho I think coaches matter more than people would like to admit.

This is also why when guys like Cal, Izzo, K, Self etc do hang it up, if those schools don't find a good coach, they will be in trouble.

I mean heck u guys saw what happened in two years of Billy G lol

I agree with this - that's why John Wall and Cousins didn't end up at Memphis

that said, the issue is the John Walls aren't coming to UK to play for Cal. Yes he is still getting good players, but the draw for Cal isn't what is was. Trae Young went to freakin Oklahoma. Did he get paid? I don't know but is that relevant? At the end of the day, whatever the appeal is, its not enough now.

So now its UK isn't for everyone

yea, the problem in that is , its not Cal saying it, its the other coaches.

Are we finding a coach that equals/exceeds Cal's records at UMass/Memphis or UK? Keep in mind, Cal struggled at UMass and Memphis most seasons. His experience at UK has been different, do you know why?

UK give these coaches a huge advantage. It’s unfair to compare what a coach did at Texas Tech to what Cal has done at UK. No, you need to compare what Beard has accomplished at TT to what Cal did at Memphis.

Beard (not my choice, just an example) could come in here and kill it. This ain't Texas Tech.

I guess the bigger question is we know what happened. We aren't reeling in the Anthony Davis/John Wall type players anymore.

Can Cal get back to that level?

Some don't believe he will. Which is fine. They might be right.

I just look at it like recruiting is going to go in cycles. We were never going to go 10 straight years of all the big names coming to UK. In hindsight we probably we spoiled by the talent early in this era.

Does that mean that Cal can't land those guys again in the future?

I mean I don't see why not.

And that's where he needs to be held accountable if he can't. In 2010 he sat at that intro presser saying he was here because he can recruit the best of the best.

So I guess we'll find out.

It's really not going to matter anymore if we get the Wall type kid if we don't have some veteran types around him.I think it's been proven by now that we have to have some experience to get the championship.

I want a redirected Calipari. If I can't get that, back a brinks truck up to Brad Stevens' house. That guy made it to two title games while coaching f*cking Butler.

You are starting from a very deep hole at a place like Butler, whereas at UK, you get to start out on a mountain.

Simply put, Cal is pissing away all the advantages UK is giving him.

Well, technically he's using them to push players to the next level. So basically, he's using the advantage that UK gives him, to screw UK over. Awesome.

But don't we have that?

I mean in 2012 that title was won by underclassman. Only Darius was a major contributor that was upper classman.

We have the vets. Cal continues to bring in grad transfers on a yearly basis. We got Sarr, we got Nate, we got Reid Travis. We've had just the same amount of experience that we had when we won in 12.

To me grad transfers aren't the same as the guys who have been playing with the team several seasons.Sestina and the others also have to adjust under a new coach and system.I don't understand why other teams seem to be able to keep veteran players around.

We had starters return that had final four experience on that 2012 team. That and a special and rare talent like AD. Damn good 3 point shooter in Doron Lamb too.

Grad transfers are a step in the right direction but it’s not usually as beneficial as upperclassman that have been in a coaches program their entire career.

yeah not exactly superstars but the types of players u can build around with a superstar class that Cal used to get.

Lol, in 8 seasons in Umass, Cal had 20+ wins 6 times and made the NCAA all of his last 5 seasons. In Memphis, he won 20+ games every season. Won over 30 his last 4 years. He won an NIT championship his second year, and won his conference 7 out of his 9 years. His last 4 seasons they only lost 1 conference game total. You must have an unusual definition for struggled most seasons.

He has actually maintained a relatively stable record his entire college coaching career.

It's not unfair at all. If a coach is only having average to slightly above average success at a smaller school with no real pressure, why would you expect him to be successful here suddenly? If Cal, who is one of the best recruiters in the game, can't land the top notch kids anymore, why would Beard? If we go with the approach of building deep, long-term rosters, why is he resorting to a lot of grad transfera at TT? Last year they wouldn't have even made the tournament. In 4 full seasons, they have lost 10+ losses 3 times. None of that really indicates a degree of success necessary for this job. It is worse than what we have had during the same time-frame

I don’t want Cal to go but I don’t always agree with him. Their are several coaches that may be fantastic here because they haven’t had the resources Kentucky has. Most if not all of the names anyone could mention that’s currently in the college game don’t have even close to the resources that Cal has here. Such as: the recruiting budget, blue blood status, facilities, fan base, assistant coaches budget, etc. You can’t rationally say that doesn’t make a difference. One solid point I have seen you make, their have been coaches crumble under the pressure of coaching here. It’s definitely not an easy task to coach at any blue blood program.

I think any coach mentioned there's an equal chance of taking off just as there is falling flat on their backs.

Yes there's more resources here, but this is entirely different beast than the schools they are currently at.

Beards made a name for himself and he’s going to be a target for a lot of good programs. It’s not to often that a coach can take a bad program like Texas Tech and take them to their first ever elite 8 in 2018 and their first final four and championship game in 2019. This is just his fifth year there. Texas tech is a historically terrible school and in a tougher conference then we’re in. I’ve seen people mention he lost 13 games in a season but fail to mention it was the year after he played in the title game. We took a team loaded with all Americans the year after our title and lost to a damn school in the NIT I’d never heard of lmao. I will say I didn’t give a damn though because that 2012 team was so damn fun to watch that I didn’t care at all to have a down year.
