Withdrawal from Syria

In conversations over the past several days, top presidential advisers have counseled Trump that withdrawing personnel from Syria would amount to a retreat from the region and allow adversarial nations to gain influence. Those cautioning against a rapid and immediate withdrawal included Defense Secretary James Mattis, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton, according to people familiar with the discussions.
Resistance to the move was strong among some in the administration. A senior administration official told CNN's Jake Tapper that the President's decision to withdraw US troops from Syria is "a mistake of colossal proportions and the President fails to see how it will endanger our country."
"Senior officials across the administration agree that the President's decision-by-tweet will recklessly put American and allied lives in danger around the world, take the pressure off of ISIS -- allowing them to reconstitute -- and hand a strategic victory to our Syrian, Iranian and Russian adversaries," the official said.
Diplomatic sources from two countries in the region said their countries were not consulted or informed, and described the news of the planned withdrawal as a "total surprise."
The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces said in a statement Thursday that the decision will provide room for the "revival of terrorism" and will create a "political and military vacuum."

I don't know why any allies would trust America anymore, screwing the Kurds again. The military is pissed and his rubes just double down on stupid and defend whatever he does. Sends troops to the border for a stunt and pulls them out to appease his handler Putin. God help us.

Graham's a war hawk. Syria and Afghanistan are no threats to the U.S., we could reduce both to rubble in 30 minutes if we needed to......and.....at very little cost of American lives and resources. The Military/Industrial complex is a gigantic money and lives sinkhole.
You know this is about ISIS, right? (at a minimum)

Sure.....and we know exactly where they are every second and minute of the day......and......could retaliate at a minutes notice If they did harm to any American.......I don't care a **** about collateral damage.

Do you have this same response for the domestic terrorists or those that plan on killing Americans (American born)? If we know where they are, we know their plans, just drop a bomb on their house and be done with them.........

And by your definition, if the neighbors of the terrorists overseas that we just blow up and kill along with the terrorists, would that, by definition, be "terrorism" against them by the United States?

I agree. These statements come off as extremely naive and over confident in our ability to track these guys. If this was true we'd have killed al-Baghdadi by now.

Yes......if people kill and murder innocents.....I would eliminate them in a heartbeat. Also if a country harbors "terrorists"" they are responsible for the consequences.

And the innocent son or daughter that is living with them that have no choice but to live with them, kill them too? Got it.

So it was the fault of the United States that we had Timothy McVeigh.....Got it.

False. Afghanistan is still not secure. We pull out of there and it’ll be like what happened in Iraq when dumb dumb pulled out of there to serve up meat to his ignorant base back in 2012.

Never said it was secure.......but......it will never be secure. And, as far as I'm concerned, it's not worth the American lives and resources. I'd rather spend the resources keeping terrorists out of our country......and NO...a wall is not the answer.

We aren’t losing a lot of lives there, man. No more than we would to DUI and training accidents if they weren’t deployed. By and large, we aren’t doing offensive ops there any more. We need another 15 years or so and that place will no longer be stuck in the dark ages. We have a generation of lunacy to overcome, and it takes time.

Afghanistan is pretty clearly his next move, imo. Hes going to oull out of there too. He's an isolationist, but worse he doesnt seem to care what anyone who knows what they are talking about has to say. I think he just hired Mattis because he wanted to brag about having a guy names Mad Dog on this staff at rallies.

I doubt Mattis sticks around much longer and that will be bad.
