Another way to put it in perspective: Since toppling Louisville twenty years ago next month, Rutgers only has three wins against top-25 teams (USF in '07 and '09 and Pitt in '08), and none of those teams finished in the top 25. That '09 USF team didn't even finish .500 in the Big East.

This has been discussed numerous times. And the answer is no.
Switch OSU roster with our staff and Greg coaches them to 3 losses. Give Ryan Day and his staff our roster and we have 8-9 wins. It’s coaching.

but but but NIL?!?!

JFC...pls make this end already....
What also is really horrible is Schiano's inability to beat a Big Ten Team that finishes the season with a winning record. In 6.5 years, he's accomplished that Once against the 2024 Minnesota Gophers team. Let it sink in. 6.5 years of returning to Rutgers and he has not won a game against a Big Ten team of any stature and/or winning record. Not Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa. When he beats a Big Ten team that is having a miserable year (Maryland, last year's Purdue team) he celebrates as if Rutgers won the Super Bowl and it's an actual accomplishment.

Please somebody end this already. Burn this Program to the ground and put it out of its misery.

Remember, Schiano got Northwestern NIL money this year. And this is the product he was able to put on the field with it.

He doesn't know what he's doing. The worst thing that could have happened for him, did. Keli came in, took over NIL fundraising, and it allowed Schiano to focus on coaching.

He's a terrible coach. The more time he spends coaching the worse the team gets.

Obviously any coach could do better with more NIL resources. Just look at Mario down in Miami. Before NIL, no one considered him some great coach, but now with top NIL he now has the number one team, for now. But what you don't seem to understand, is that, as a practical matter, Rutgers is unlikely to improve its' relative position with regard to NIL, at least not much over the long term. Zinn can grab some low hanging fruit, after Hobbs who did absolutely nothing, but after that you are who you are, and you need a coaching staff who can be competitive with the available resources. Separate question as to whether the current staff are maximizing the potential of the available resources. I don't think so. Sure, one of the Rutgers billionaires could magically get involved, but I wouldn't bet on it.
What you need to understand is that many major donors are meaningfully involved with the program because of Greg. Amy Towers is one of the few that got involved after Greg left. It was reported that the available NIL will be significantly improved from last year. It took time for the fund raising apparatus to ramp up.

This is similar to basketball where the NIL amount was embarrassing in previous years, but was finally competitive this year. Lo and behold, look at our basketball transfer portal results. We finally have a competitive center, decent depth, and should be able to put a competitive product out on the court. I expect that we will see similar results next year, now that we have decent NIL, for football.

we gave pike another Shot after 2 dud years. Schiano deserves same. He is the biggest reason we’re in the Big Ten.

He’s already fixed the program twice. What’s another time? It’s completely asinine to throw away 18 years of institutional knowledge and know how, for someone who will come in and learn what strategy to implement. Most of the coaches after burns had no clue how to run Rutgers Football to optimize results. Kyle Flood did his best, but struggled towards the end of his tenure. Dick Anderson, Doug Graber, Terry Shea, and Chris Ash were bums who could not achieve the desired results. These coaches were not dummies, they just could not figure out how to run Rutgers Football successfully.

Lastly, look at the calendar. Signing day is 12/2. Right now, we have a competitive class, which moves he program forward. Makes zero sense to start from ground zero, especially when you have budding stars like Isaiah Alvarez and Jamar Taylor.

Schiano has never gotten the kids he wants. Only thing that changes is your excuse as to why.
He wanted Anthony Davis, Tom Savage, and Savon and got them. Other than that, it’s not excuses, it’s explanations. It is very difficult to recruit good kids to Rutgers. So we’ve had to take Tier 2 kids and develop them. Schiano is the only one who has been able to do so consistently. If there was proper NIL, the roster would have been filled with proper talent.

Rutgers simply doesn’t have as much to offer as a Michigan, Ohio State, or Penn State.

THERE WILL NEVER BE MORE NIL SUPPORT

You're blind assumption "Schiano is the best possible viable ccoach" impacts every thread or post you make.

Because you refuse to even consider that there could be a better viable coach, the ONLY thing you fall back on is "the only way to improve is more money".

There will never be more money.
There’s more money for the next portal. Don’t know what you’re talking about. There’s no better coach, who is willing to come to Rutgers. Don’t know if you got the memo, but money is what drives college football success these days.

Greg has recruited plenty of high-level recruits. Too many washed out because they weren't the right fits. That's a common theme with Greg in 1.0 & 2.0. It was easy to dismiss during 1.0 when lots of other recruits were becoming productive players.

Rutgers doesn't have as much to offer because the coach can't produce the results that he keeps trying to sell recruits on.

Is Rutgers trying to compete with Ohio State or the likes of Minnesota, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Iowa? Compare them to RU and it won’t look so bleak especially from an NIL standpoint.

We just have the wrong person in charge to maximize NIL and performance.
This is where you’re clueless. Chris Ash came here and faceplanted right out of the gate, and he was a reasonably intelligent coach. We couldn’t even beat Buffalo and Kansas, forget about Wisconsin and Iowa.

Not every coach has the skillset to succeed here. Schiano has been able to recruit reasonably well, despite the constraints.

Better coaching gets RU to 9-3 in 2024 and 8-4 in 2025. This season, better coaching gets RU to 4-3 instead of being a smaller shoe size away from being 1-6.

At least 6 losses since 2024 are attributable to inadequate coaching and preparation. They have nothing to do with facilities, NIL, or lack of donations. With better, or even competent, coaching, RU would be 21-10 since 2024 instead of 14-17 at this point. Lack of NIL is a bad excuse for what we've seen.
Better coaching? This is the most clueless post you’ve ever written. The talent on defense is flat out garbage, with a few exceptions, who are developing. They could prepare for the next year and they’d still be garbage. No one could start for better big ten schools.

LOL, you're only defense is citing Chris Ash, meanwhile UMass was a worse loss than Buffalo and Kansas. Greg was crowing all summer about being much improved and face plant right out of the gate.

He's cooked like your reputation on every On3 board. Everyone knows you can't talk ball.

If he doesn't call the timeout against Illinois, they win. If they were prepared, they wouldn't have shat the bed against a bad UCLA team. If there were any adjustments in the second half of the Minnesota and Iowa games, those are wins. AĹL of these losses are on coaching. You are the last person that should be throwing the word clueless around.

Purdue has the lowest NIL in the Big Ten. Thus far this season they have managed to:
1. Take #14 Wake Forest to Double OT
2. Put up 38 against UCLA in a close game (down a TD with 10 minutes to go)
3. Crushed Minnesota 41-13, Minnesota has beaten Iowa, Michigan and Washington (all ranked at the time)
4. Beat Illinois (just beat Oregon)

Barry Odom has managed to use the portal to fill needs despite limited resources, and they are at least prepared to play every game (save ND). In addition, Purdue is just one example of a program that is able to utilize their resources effectively. Schiano is neither a good game coach nor does he identify needs and talent. More NIL won't fix what's wrong here. A change at the top will.
Purdue is 3-4, with two nice victories. Hardly world beaters with PSU, Wisconsin and others on tap. Let’s see where they are at the end of the season. They developed a qb over 4 years.

Did a lack of NIL call an ill-advised timeout to ice the kicker on an unmakeable FG into a stiff wind against Illinois, leading to a walk off TD in a game RU basically had won?

Did a lack of NIL fail to prepare for UCLA (at the time the worst team in the B1G), resulting in an embarrassing home loss?

Did a lack of NIL cause RU to get run out of their own stadium by UMass, a team that was winless the previous season?

Did a lack of NIL cause a loss to BC, a team that was 2-10 the previous season?

Did a lack of NIL not make adjustments and blow halftime leads against Iowa, Minnesota, and Kansas State?
A good quarterback would have beaten UMass and BC and USC.

The big ten games were games we came up short. Minnesota and Iowa have invested a whole lot more in their football programs than we have in ours. Iowa has support we can only dream of.

Wow, just wow. I think we all intuitively know it, but it really is eye-opening when it’s laid out so plainly.

Side note: great work by the Targum. Sort of crazy that a college newspaper is producing better researched content than pretty much anything else I read these days.
It’s not rocket science. Ranked teams have invested a lot more in their football programs than we have in ours.

He's likely trolling for reactions at this point and his trolling is working by spurring pages amd pages of responses. His routine is pretty much to alternate his threads/posts between NIL or how RU will run the table. His posting pattern has become repetitive.

He was a very successful HC who just needed more time.
Right? See below.......

I've asked it before: if you are so historically poor at evaluating football what makes you think your evaluation of Schiano (the best there ever was, best there is and best there ever will be) is accurate?

Before Ash first season:

Towards the end of Year 2:

Going into Year 4 (he was fired 4 weeks into the season and didn't make it out of September):

The irony is that when we get a new coach and they dont immediately compete with OSU the response will be "See?? We got a new coach and still getting beaten by OSU. We are still not competing for championships!"

Certain people will 100% hold the new coach to a standard they are actively downplaying when it comes to Schiano.

You won't see a "Give new Coach X a free pass because of blah blah blah" like Schiano gets from some.
There is a difference between being in a game and looking like you have a plan but still losing versus mind boggling blunders and big gains from blown coverage. There’s. Looking like you knew what you’re doing versus having no answer at all. Everyone understands that the RU isn’t going to automatically get the same athletes as Ohio st with a new coach. But if the players he has make plays and are competitive people will be patient for 2-3 seasons.

How many times has Rutgers landed its first choice recruits in the last six years? It almost never happens. And then you see the same recruit succeed elsewhere. The problem isn’t the evaluation, it’s that we don’t offer enough to land the first priorities on our board. What exactly is our value proposition ?
  • Crappy Campus
  • Crappy Facilities
  • Crappy NIL
  • Crappy Stadium Environment

Our only competitive advantage is our location. Academically, every school in the Big Ten is a good school, with a possible exception.

Yet most of you bozos expect the best recruits to sign up for this 💩. It’s complete lunacy. The best recruits are going elsewhere because they’re getting bigger bags, better facilities, better stadium environment, and overall a better experience.

  • The best recruits we can get, are coming because Schiano sold them.

  • we have to be honest as to where we stand, and we’re low man on the totem pole, because we don’t offer enough. We have to overpay to get good recruits in here.

This is why we didn’t have enough NIL, to land the caliber of recruit, in the portal, to turn this situation around. Look at Wisconsin, who spent $9M more than we did. Look at their caliber of transfer, then look at ours. Even in spite of our financial challenges, we did land some talent. Clay Thevinin and Rondo Porter can ball. The issue is with everyone else. You take the big risks that we did, and you’re not going to land many hits. To get more hits, we have to pay up for better risks. We need more Tier 1 transfers in our transfer class, like what Northwestern and Wisconsin have. Can only do that with more NIL.

Schiano ended his fundraising activities once Kelli came on board, and that was likely a mistake. It took time for Kelli to get the proper resources in place, so that our fundraising could operate with maximum efficiency. The results last year weren’t great, which put us at a big disadvantage in the portal. Despite our constraints, we still landed Rondo Porter and Clay Thevinin. Everyone else isn’t having the impact we hoped for. Next year, with more money, we’ll get better results. The best coach for the job, is the current one.
You're the voice of reason, Al, GS has the team/program coming around and with his next extension and additional NIL take Rutgers into the CFP!
