IF we hire Korn, he would likely be the QB coach as well as OC. Given how his QB at CC played this year, that would probably be an upgrade over Mario. Maybe we get CC's QB as a grad transfer then too.....

rumors floating out there now, that he would be bringing the QB with him. rumors only but Id be down!
In recent weeks, posts on here were clamouring to hire CC head coach. He got a new contract so why not hire the guy who knows and runs the offense and coaches the QB?
I'm starting to think they are having a difficult time getting a replacement offensive staff together.
We should have had announcements already.

Edit: I just saw the latest from Trev, sounds like he is blaming the 'changing landscape' and using some other language like that, so it would appear that they have had at least one party change direction on them.

thinking they are wanting to make the announcement of all of the coaches at 1 time. some of them may be taking longer than others, just a thought.
Maybe, seems dumb to do that. The OC hire should've happened by now, no time to lose.
Could be that there are some (maybe all) of the candidates have recruiting/coaching commitments to their current schools. Making the announcement now could be perceived as detrimental/unethical for the current schools. As an example, Mickey Joseph was recruiting for LSU last night, while an Oklahoma assistant who is going with Riley to USC is alleged to be trying to get OU recruits to go to USC.

I don't think he should have fired the last loan officer. OL and QB would have been enough for me.
If that’s the case then still a numbers game. Need OL of course. So either don’t get a ST guy or someone else is gone
The right special teams analyst could do the job from the box instructing a grad student on the sideline. Our problem with special teams was mostly the guys putting their feet on the balls. Yes there was a break down in the block protection on that punt against Iowa. That was partly the blocking scheme and then the execution of what should have been an adjustment by our 3 back blockers. Our "directional" punt that cost us the MSU game was ALL on the punter. That kickoff return for a TD was almost all on the kicker. We HAVE to find a better punter and kicker or it won't matter who our ST guy is.

OC is what it is, we need a splash OL coach. Someone who can make us better and nasty from day one. We improve that position even 25%, we are going to be a ton better on O. Special teams are the same way. Fix OT & ST, you probably fix NU's problem and can move to the next level and then focus how to get to the upper level again.
Only so many ways to divide it to get a full-time ST coach, which I think we need.
OL/OC or RB/OC and Frost coaches QB’s
Beckton does WR/TE
Dawson is gone and Chin coaches OLB
There are a lot of TE/ST too, so could have Beckton coach WR’s and hire one of the those.
I've said all along that this OC hire will likely be a guy from a smaller program that nobody had heard of and that might not be a bad thing. We're not getting a guy like Tom Herman. He's going to get another head coaching job. Maybe if you paid Herman 2 million/year he would take it but he'll likely get that or more with a 5 year guarantee to be somebody's head coach.
Getting a Punter and Kicker is the path to acceptable special teams play. If we want to have good special teams we are going to have to significantly improve punt and kick return as well. Both return units were awful this year.
I watch too much college and NFL football. EVERY team has break downs in kick coverages. We had 2 back breaking break downs that killed us in close games this year and IMO they were both caused by the guy who put his foot on the ball. I thought overall our kick coverage was better than it's been during Frost's tenure.

Almost all contract offset language allows fired former HC's to accept lesser, coordinator roles & still receive their payout. If they're as bitter about their firing as Bobitch was, they may even step down to FCS to get that money. But a P5 coordinator role would be a great option (maybe not OUR OC, however).
What fired HC do you want as your OC? Mullen? That might be okay but the issue for NU is what seems to be a one year "prove it" deal that Frost just agreed to. Mullen and Herman both more than likely will hold out for a rehab job as either an OC at a place like Bama or a head coach job at a G5 school. There's still a lot of turnover coming IMO and those guys will bide their time rather than jump at NU's OC job. IF we could get Herman or Mullen as an OC I would do cartwheels.

It kind of was mine too. That said, I'm hopeful that getting rid of Mario and Austin will fix our biggest issues. Then IF we can find a consistent punter and kicker we might be okay. I'm trying to look at his situation logically and unemotionally. I would have been okay if Trev had decided to move on but I also logically look at the finances and the changes and think this might be the most prudent choice. You can fix a lot of problems with a different coordinator.
Agreed on the kick/punt coverage, I’m not disagreeing there.
We need to find a kick and punt return unit that can help us in field position as well. Nebraska was straight up awful in fielding and returning punts and kicks.
My point is that simply getting a good punter and kicker won’t fix special teams. We need to improve dramatically on fielding and gaining yardage on kick and punt return
We need a guy who can make the first guy miss on punt returns. CTB was that guy but he couldn't catch the ball and think at the same time. We always used to have a wing back or CB who could do it for Tom. Kickoffs have become a victim of the analytics with the new fair catch rules etc IMO. Why run it out when there are so many penalties on a return that stick you inside the 15?
