We've had two threads about this and a link to the video, and some people saying he should be kicked off the team. Had this been U of L or UNCheat, there would be a whitewash of the incident and the mods would delete any mention of it.

I would guess the former. At his age, the fact that he's on a team, and has a girlfriend who he seems to be active with, it would be odd if he was a fall-down drunk alcoholic and it hadn't gotten out until now.
That would be my guess.

Maybe everyone is jumping to conclusions here. There is no breath test for the PI charge. All they have to do is think you're drunk. We have no way of knowing how much alcohol he consumed or what his physical state was prior to the consumption. This entire episode might be explained by something as simple as him being tired and mixing alcohol with some type of opioid.

He should be kicked off the team until he completes some type of alcohol help program and then reinstated if he completes it . That video shows a serious problem , basketball should be on the back burner . The worst thing that could be done to him is to let him off with some insignificant punishment .

1st. This looks horrible

2nd worse than originally reported

3rd. He is sooooo lucky. Nobody hurt

4th. Where is the video of GF Did she talk?

5th. I don't think he has a problem I think either something else in his system or a lightweight so don't overreact like he is an alcoholic

Even in despair he was respectful. He is going to livening this for the rest of his life. Let's see how he and his family and UK deals with this. The last thing anyone can do is turn their back on him

This might be a blessing in disguise. He might straighten up and be an advocate for speaking to youth and what can happen

Cal doesn't throw his guys under the bus when they are down. Even if he punishes him he will be supportive. Jeremy hunt ended up down a bad road but he straightened up and went to school on his own till Cal took him back. After he was done with school he chose to go down the same road. I think Willis has a better support system so I don't think this will be the case

This is bigger than basketball. Let's hope he can look back at this and laugh live and learn This is not a cover up story. It's out there. He has to own it. Let's see how the chips fall. Let him pay his dues whatever they may be.

A number of issues are present here. Was the engine warm? Did someone see him drive in this condition? How long had this car been parked in this position? I do know the police in my county would have charged him with DUI and let the county attorney sort it out later. It would have been interesting to know what his blood alcohol level was and that would have been requested in a DUI charge unless he refused.

Since I've got a lawyer here.

How in the hell is it legal to now force blood to be drawn by the police? Seems highly illegal from a constitutional standpoint not to mention unethical by the medical personnel. My grandfather was mayor of the town im originally from for 25 years. I thought he was pulling my leg when he told me it's perfectly legal and practiced state wide now.

And I'm very pro police/anti drinking and driving but I was just wondering.

I got a DUI in my own driveway with the car still running. I got a lawyer and beat it.

I know the way it was when I was in high school and college and it wasn't blood. The best thing to do was refuse the breathalyzer and try to beat it that way. Now apparently they'll take you in and have blood drawn. I guess as a way to stop people from refusing.

I just don't see how it's legal and ethical.

Can you imagine not being drunk, refusing a breath analyzer, and then forced to give blood. It's a good thing I don't live there. I would say "f you I'm not drunk, f you i'm not taking test, and f you we're going to fight if you try and stick a needle in my arm". once they tazed me and my blood comes back clean, i'm cleaning up on suing the *****.

Thank God nobody got hurt. No excuse for that crap. I wish I didn't see that video. I definitely think less of him after watching it. Youth does not excuse that type of ignorance . He could have killed innocent people or himself . I hope he straightens up and never lets this happen again. I understand that everyone makes mistakes, but I wouldn't have a problem with a lengthy suspension for him .

Two words, implied consent. Read the fine print, you agree to submit to testing as a condition of receiving a drivers license.

I was a DD in a fraternity program in college We took turns who was on call to drive. I was a grad assistant and still did it. Went out with coaches from 5-830 and had 3 beers. At 130 am got the call to pick up people. ( DD service started at midnight Pulled into apartment complex and got pulled over. Cop said " have you had anything to drink tonight, I said 3 beers earlier in the evening. He immediately slammed me up against the car and handcuffed me. I said are you going to do a field sobriety test, he said he didn't have to since I admitted to drinking.

Fast forward two years. I got out of it. But damn it was a lot of money and some BS. I had been asleep for three hours after getting home Got the call to give some people a ride home. The worst thing about the whole thing it was the weekend of Labor Day. I had to stay an extra day in jail. Nobody was working when I was trying to get out

Not sure how other lawyers did it. But my lawyer got me off on improbable cause.

I went out to my car and started jamming to GWAR. I passed out at the wheel. Neighbor had open heart surgery. GWAR was blasting through my car so hard that the the neighbor called the police. Got arrested, but cops weren't there. Cops weren't near my car when it was started

He was more than likely driving in my opinion. But I will say, I've been in a situation before where I shouldn't have been driving and realized it when I almost ran a red light. Luckily I wasn't too far from where I came from, so I just went back and slept in my truck. I'll also say, if Derek is anything like myself when I've had too much to drink, he passes out where he falls. There have been times where I've tripped and fallen in my buddy's apartment and almost immediately pass out.

To say that he needs to get help is making an assumption that he has a problem and we don't know if he does or not. I don't think we have a Johnny Manziel on our hands here. He made a bad decision, and I'm sure he realizes that. I don't say this to justify his actions, but I'd say 85% of college students make stupid choices (some worse than others) at some point in their college careers.

I'm sure more details will come out within the next couple of days, so I'll wait and see what is said. Regardless, he does need to be smarter. Unfortunately he's under a larger microscope by being a UK basketball player.

I've known people to get out of it by throwing their keys. Nobody could find them so they got off.

I've known people to get a dui arguing with a cop and never stepped in car but keys were in ignition

So he's an alcoholic because he passed out? Come on now...
Right? Him passing out doesn't mean he's a rookie nor does it mean he's an alcoholic. I mean. Sometimes you drink more than you can handle. Everyone has their limit and he went past his obviously. Doesn't need rehab, doesn't mean he can't handle drinking. The silliness in this thread is something to behold.

From the link: "Police said Willis was found passed out drunk in the street next to the open driver's side door in Union, Ky., on Saturday night."

No context to determine from the video except what you see. Did he pass out getting in or getting out of the car? Was this a residential neighborhood or the highway? Did the car show signs of being on recently? It is just raw vid with no supporting background.

OT: This thread is over the top. Besides all the judgemental conjecture, Why would anyone admit to performing deviant sexual acts in a public thread and few express this as wrong? Sodomizing a drunk person with food is not acceptable and not funny. It is terrorism. I hope this poster was lying.

Everyone saying, "We don't know if, or how much, he drank," the article below the video says he told the police he had had "a lot." I think it's safe to assume he was drunk.

I don't think there is any reason to assume anything else. Was he driving? Probably, and that would be horribly unsafe. But he wasn't charged with a DUI. Is he an alcoholic? There isn't anything to indicate that, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

He was charged with PI. I'm confident Cal won't throw him under the bus. I'm also confident there will be some punishment, whether we ever know about it or not. Frankly, I'm sure he's mortified by this video, and is probably already learning some lessons.

Cal preaches: la familia. We will see if it is practised in this case. I believe so. Willis definitely has a some penance to pay, but let us not crucify him.

False. I'm one of the few who isn't labeling a 21 year old kid as Foster Brooks after one arrest.
You act like this is common or standard , wind sprints will clear it up . Your opinion on this is flippant and immature , you might as well brace yourself because his punishment is not going to reflect your take on it .

They can't force you to submit to a breath or blood test. You have a right to refuse. However, if you do refuse, you are looking at pretrial suspension of your license and automatic jail time- even if you end up beating the DUI charge. Blood is requested in many cases if the officer believes the person is under the influence of some kind of legal or illegal drug that will not show up on the breath test.

Some other posters....not so much...[laughing] Dang that is hard to overcome if you actually listen to what you read or type...[laughing] (Sorry, I am still laughing at Willy's post.).....yours too a little bit...[laughing]

I've seen James young sleeping in weirder situations.

No one knows if he was drunk, tired, mugged, or just adjusting something under the car.

I'll let all facts come in before I make a judgment. Wouldn't want to rush it.
