5 stars on what site? How many posts are you going to make about the same thing? I don't see 3 5 stars on rivals or 247
Well if you combine ESPN, ON3, and 247 then you get one ranking for each that is a 5 star. Calipari has convinced the younger generation that you can only win with 5 star recruits. Last I checked we haven’t been to a final four since 2015.

If cal started our decline pope put the dirt over us
Oh, Cal definitely started our decline. While Pope's record has not been stellar by any standard, the all-time wins gap between UK and Kansas declined more under Cal. So I guess you could say Pope has not thrown dirt on us, he's just not digging us out of the hole Cal dug us into.

As much as Cal’s waning years screwed us, we were still respectable. We’ve basically received Tom Crean at Indiana levels of derision under Pope. The media, opposing fans, and Pope’s fellow coaches. There is zero respect.

Can't say that I disagree, but I'm waiting to see if how this season plays out before I start feeling like UK is the new IU. But my point still stands. Cal coasted in his "waning years" and that's what made a coaching change inevitable. We were just victims of a possible not so great hire by the former AD.

Will Wade is a POS human being. He is however a really good basketball coach. This isn’t brain surgery. You can either coach or you can’t. You can either relate to recruits or you can’t. It doesn’t take three years to figure it out. We know what we have and it ain’t good.

I think this will be Pope's last year. We will likely have a season similar to all of his seasons as a head coach where we'll have some good wins in between multiple losses with several seeing us get down 15-20+ early in the game and simply not be able to come back. Then a flame out in the second round and that'll be it.

J Batt doesn't strike me as a guy that's going to rearrange furniture on the Titanic. I think he'll get a new boat and probably the best boat available and I think we'll be off to the races in very short order. In some ways I feel like Pope is in an unwinnable situation right now. I think Batt as patiently awaiting his demise and anything short of the Final Four is probably a nail in the coffin for Pope, and given today's college sports landscape, it probably should be.

After what Stein just did, I think Pope is all but done here.

Yes, that nine and sixteen was respectable as hell and damn damn near beat Oakland and Saint Pete, but just let it slip away, right

I'm thinking, in todays new era of NIL :

Coaches in all major sports are in a wild and crazy and screwed up environmnet as far as keeping any job continuity. I don't think it really exists for anyone but the very biggest names. And that doesnt last thru multiple failed seasons in a row or titles playoffs/tournaments, final fours, etc. notwithstanding. Dabo Swinney ? Hmmm. I think ya'll know what I mean.

With a hot new fresh young coaching hire, he catches fire in his first season, gets a buzz and keeps building on it, and players come their way, you have a fundamental shift in the old order.

Only quick turnarounds of a year or two ( three in Pope's case .... it's definitely do or die ) success in those two years, and sustained success is really the only way.

And honestly, I totally understand former (now retired) coaches leaving post haste because of all the BS they have to go thru to recruit and then to simply coach. Simply coaching is no longer the sole responsibility for head coaches nowadays, and the insanity of teenage kids and their families extorting money in what is now a players market ....

Yeah, I understand why more coaches are leaving it because it's a mess.

I have always thought Wade was a decent x's and o'x coach, but totally a slimey sleaze ball otherwise.

it's a crazy world
