Will grounds staff put Vaseline on goal posts?

Wasn’t there a game back in the 70’s where OSU or someone tore down posts before end of game against Michigan so they couldn’t try a FG...for some reason, that is stuck in my head and can’t remember details

1972 Michigan game. I remember it well. OSU, leading 14-11, stopped Michigan on downs at the OSU 40 yard line with 13 seconds left in the game. The fans tore down the South end goalpost (open end of the stadium) as OSU came on the field to run out the clock.

Also happened when Rutgers played at Princeton in 1974. No goalposts when Princeton scored late TD so they had to go for two and failed. Game ended in a 6 -6 tie. Was also first RU game I ever saw.

Back then- I was 12 and huge Michigan fan and remembered that but no one since, ever verified...

Here is a Washington Post article from October 1994 about Miami trying to bounce back from a 9-4 1993 season. The incident where the goal posts were greased at Rutgers is mentioned as evidence of Miami's slump in reputation.

Washington State is the other one. At Pullman field. FSU has LSU have them because of tradition of running through them. But it’s the opposite at Wazzu. They used to have regular ones. The reason they changed was because their students kept tearing down the old ones and the school didn’t want to keep paying to replace them, so they installed dual-posts which are much sturdier

The greased goal post game with Sapp happened in the early-mid 90's

Edit: Just looked it up. The "Illegal touching" call on the fumble return had to have happened in '02. They came in #1 in that game after the Natty in '01.

there was a play where we got an INT in the endzone, that was returned like 100 yards, but called back....this play has been argued about and many fans thought we got jobbed with a penalty...... lost in all this was one ref who was signaling our guy stepped out of bounds near midfield, anyway....so even if there was no penalty, we probably would not have gotten the points.

was my first RU game. i look back at that UM roster and am amazed at the amount of talent on that squad. and we hung with them. we can do it again.

I don't remember the weather, to be honest...I do remember, that at half time, a lot of fans gathered above the tunnel where our players ran off the field at halftime...and we were yelling down, really trying to pump up the team, to keep it going...they tried.

That was the game where Schiano had someone take a picture of the scoreboard showing Rutgers up 17-8.
He wanted to use it for recruiting purposes...
