Will Duckworth be QB2?

I can only hope Cutter gets some reps before he has to come in. Thats the thing im most worried about. 16 getting all the reps in the first games
He has been hurt in both seasons. 16 is in need of reps with the new offense, but at what cost? Cutter need reps too. Ideally they split snaps the first two games. Maybe rotate quarters. Just game plan it so someone dont get his feelings hurt. WWSD

I’m assuming you mean Sellers. Broken record, but my perception of Sellers is that he didn’t come up playing backyard qb for fun with his mates, which I believe is where the brain learns the trade same as any sport and is what it needs when he’s on the field and things speed up dramatically. You can sit a guy in a room with film and show him defenses and if x and y then do z, but you’ve got to have the predator instinct already or that’s too much thinking without it. The only instinct he’s got that I’ve seen is to run, and that was taken away last season with the spy or sometimes spies. We’ll see I suppose; as mentioned previously, I just hope we don’t stay doggedly beating a dead horse if it’s not working again.
Sellers played backyard football in AAAA high school against some of the best teams in the state. I will say again….running clock against South Pointe. Blew em off the field along with many others.

Most gamecock fans refuse to accept that Sellers is not a very good QB, he is a talented RB playing QB. He probably became a QB because he was always the most athletically talented player on the team from middle school through HS. This is a very common occurrence. He has a strong arm, another product of being physically gifted, but he isn't really a good passer. He struggles to read defenses and relies on his legs to get out of trouble he didn't see coming before the snap. His default setting is "run", it worked in HS, so he is conditioned to think it will continue to work.
I’m gonna save this one.

I was actually talking about the possibility of Duckworth or Woods playing if we have a better OL and play calling. I think last year sucked the air out of the room for LaNorris. He knew he was gonna get killed and his running instinct took over as soon as the ball was in his hands. As far as playing backyard football as a kid his little brother sure looks like he did. It may be that LS is just not a warrior like Shaw and Garcia. I don't know much about Woods and Duckworth.
“Not a warrior.” Hilarious.

I’m curious….you played, coached? What’s your credentials?

Cutter is a certified winner. Duckworth is full of raw talent but my gut says he has a lot to learn and he will probably transfer after sophomore year unfortunately. I’d rather have him take the reigns but the future is bright regardless imo

Been here 25 years.

But you could easily just go back to posting only on the insiders board, right?

Its kind of a joke amongst some of the posters here. Someone from the insiders board goes "slumming" on the free board, making some bold statements, then disappears back to the premium board when the rubber hits the road.

Go Cocks. First fb game, Mike Fair was qb. First bskb game, the first one in the Carolina Coliseum. First Bb game was the first one when the Roost was built. Been around a couple of years. I don’t miss games. Live, tv, or radio. Been that way a LONG time. See ya soon.

No kidding. Go Cocks. I believe in 16 because I saw him in hs against the best. If we have “fixed” him, look out.

No question if Sellers is allowed to play ‘athlete’ he will dominate. Problem is this is the SEC, not South Pointe; pretty easy to defend if ‘athlete’ is all you bring to the table and you don’t have actual qb skills from experience in your tool box (hello Corey Jenkins.) There is no one on earth that hopes Sellers succeeds more than the posters in this thread.

I personally think Woods should be given an honest opportunity to be the starter this season. I haven’t watched Duckworth besides high school film abs know people are excited and stuff, but just don’t see how he could be anywhere close to ready.

Childish.

But it does drive a point home. Lots of guys shine in HS, only to fail or be mediocre in college. Same for college to the NFL.

Its a big step up. I would prefer, if I was going to argue for Seller's success, to use his run his RSFR year. It was against actual college opponents.

His great play his RSFR year was primarily because opposing defenses didn't really know much about how to defend him. Once opponents started putting a spy on him, he was no longer the threat he had been.

His numbers tell the story. In 2024 he rushed for 674 yds, in 2025 he rushed for 270 yds. His passing yds per season are basically the same both seasons, around 2500 yds or, 200 yds per game. For his career, he has 33 passing TDs, 2 in 2023, 18 in 2024 and 13 in 2025. He has 15 interceptions, 7 in 2024 and 8 in 2025. Those aren't impressive numbers.

I've heard NFL players say the biggest step up is from HS to college. In HS, most D1/P4 players are not only the best player on their team, most days, they are the best player on the field on either team. When they get to college, most of the time they are not even the best player at their position.

And yet, Arch Manning has less yardage as Sellers in both passing and rushing, and the media is crowning him as one of the best in the SEC.

Manning is NOT the player I thought he was going to be, but i never watched him in HS. It was just reading the hype.

If I had to argue for him though, it would be that he tripled his passing yards from two years ago to last year. Same for rushing.

I would argue that hes improving vs plateauing.

All we can do is hope Sellers joins him in his trajectory.

And it happened under the tutelege of Mike Shula starting with the Illinois game. Up until then Loggains had him playing at a high level. He will have a chance to return to that level of play under Briles. Let's see what happens.

It's hard to say? Was Sellers' drop-off due to opposing defenses having tape on him and adjusting or was it because Shula was a bad OC? It's probably a mix of both. Shula was a bad OC.

Memory fades with time, but did Loggains really gameplan Sellers' success? I recall a lot of running on broken down plays. Was that planning, or improvising?

Sellers most notable plays were all broken plays. This is why I think it's a major concern that defenses simply adjusted by putting a spy on him. We had no other offensive playmakers in the backfield to warrant concern. Hopefully Briles is able to adjust accordingly.

As kid keeps pointing out, we had that running threat then too. Not a huge one, but at least a threat.

That's a good point, but I think Loggains realized that his talent could best be utilized by letting him play like that. Shula struck me as very structured which took LS out of his natural game.

If by "natural game" you mean playground football, you could be right. Unfortunately, SEC DCs are pretty darn good at defending playground QBs.

I think Shula tried to teach him how to be an actual QB. Sellers either didn't get it or intentionally decided to continue playing the "you go long, you go long and I'll run it" gameplan.

I am not saying Sellers is a good qb, I am merely stating this will be his 3rd OC, and the first two were not very good either. in my opinion Beamer has been infatuated with Sellers from the very start, which I never understood, last year he was mostly bad in my opinion.

No, I meant his natural football instincts. Shula was a terrible OC, and Teasley was a terrible OL coach which was at least partly reflected in LS performance last year.

His natural football instinct is to run the ball i.e. playground football.

Shula and Teasley weren't good, but they might have gotten all they could out of the talent they had. Both of them were hired by major programs after they left SC. I have a hard time blaming all the failures of the offense on the OC and OL coach.

If Briles and Clements don't produce a record setting offense this season, there are going to be some seriously upset fans.
