Why is it a problem that we like Byrne?

I have had 4 ole miss fans ask me this week why State fans like Greg Byrne so much. Why is this such a problem for them? Why is being excited over progress being made such a big deal? Yeah, some people on here have given him ridiculous nicknames, but that is mostly a joke.

We get it, you hate Pete Boone so you think we should hate our AD too. But dear god just stop acting like it is such a problem for state fans to like Greg Byrne.

Just goes to show you how low Lonnie Tinkle and crew had lowered the bar. So far, Byrne has hired Cohen and Mullen, neither one presented a huge challenge but somehow LT would have screwed one or both of them up.

State fans are pumped about Byrne because he appears to operating with an agressive yet sensible mindset. Forgive us, for we are not accustomed to such.

...to hit the Mississippi campus c. 2003.

If you claim there is some sucking going on with Byrne, that is nothing compared to the outbreak of anal intercourse formerly hetero men longed to have with Eli when Eli was roaming the Oxford streets.

Byrne is held in high esteem because he dared to kick Ron Polk's sorry *** to the curb then refused to hire Polk's boy-in-waiting, Tommy Raffo.

The hiring of Mullen is just a continuation of Byrne's refusal to make status quo hires.

I just wanted to know why people feel the need to ask me why we like Greg Byrne? Like I am wearing a Greg Byrne T-shirt or something.

We like him because he is not LT and he is doing some good things for the university. I guess we should hate him so you will think it is normal.

The more ya'll make comments like that about Byrne, and poormouth or give backhanded subtle jabs to Mullen, the more we know you are 17ing pissing your pants that things have changed and you guys know we aren't screwing around anymore.

because he's doing the one thing that will trigger changes in our own athletic department: trying to produce long-term success at State.

For that reason alone, he's the best thing to happen to Ole Miss athletics in the last 40 years. </p>

You don't know the crusty white men who run our athletic department.

Sucess by State is the one thing that can disturb their golf-course reveries about Vaught, "redshirting Miss Americas" and "the time that Archie and the boys beat ol' Hee Haw Kiner in Jackson."</p>

of them tell me that they consider what State does to be irrelevant, and that we're not one of their biggest rivals...can't have it both ways, or maybe they're just not being honest. At any rate, ole' Kiner shouldn't have referred to them as "mules."

Eli Manning did things at QB at an exceptionally high level. He was All-SEC, All-American, and finished 3rd in the Heisman voting. He did things beyond what just a competant QB would do. He didn't just "do his job" like he was supposed to, he did it at a higher level than most.

Greg Byrne has simply been a competant AD, and nothing more. He didn't hire a coach that a retiring coach wanted, he hired the guy he wanted to hire. Thats called being competant.

He fired Croom after 4 ****** seasons out of 5 and a massive beatdown of a generation at the hands of your rival. Thats called being a competant AD. Hell, Pete Boone hired Ed Orgeron after Croom and got rid of him before Croom was let go. And Pete Boone is a 17ing moron.

He put up a big "HD-like" screen when your contract on your current small screen ended. Hell, Pete 17ing Boone did the same damn thing. And Peter Boone is a 17ing idiot.

He moved the media at the basketball games and sold sidelines seats for 6K. So did Pete Boone. And Pete Boone is a 17ing moron.

I know, I know, State fans are used to the ****** job that Templeton has done over the years. This "competant" thing is a new fad to hit Starkville with Byrne becoming the AD. But you just look like damn idiots acting like Greg Byrne has done something amazing by doing his job correctly. Every other school in the SEC sees what he has done and say "What is the big deal?"

And State fans think everybody in the SEC is afraid of the job Byrne is doing. I learned that by reading this board.

Your little theory is the dumbest **** ever typed out on this board. Ole Miss fans aren't afraid of Mississippi State. Ole Miss fans will never be afraid of Mississippi State. And it should be the same with Mississippi State fans. Eventually you'll realize that the better each program is, the harder the other program will try. That doesn't mean you're scared.

Nor should you be. What happens at MSU or at UM has little effect on the other. Both can be solid programs and both can suck, and we've done both in th past. You have a good coach, and now we have a good (but unproven) coach. If Mullen turns out to be as good as we hope and think he will, it won't be the end of UM's football program.

because when you poor-mouth Mullen and Byrne, who by all accounts are good hires, you sound like you are trying to convince yourself that they aren't worth a ****.

I agree with that. My point was to diffuse the notion that Ole Miss fans are scared of the ability of your new coach.

It's my belief that no one knows how good he'll do....that includes both Rebels and Bulldogs---regardless of the wooliness in some posts.

I would be shocked if any Rebel was concerned at this point. Nothing against Mullen, but we have no reason to be at this point.

Nobody on NAFOOM has said that Mullen was a poor hire. You might get some Spirit posters saying that, but you got the same with GenesPagers when OM hired Nutt.

Nobody has said Byrne was a bad hire, that I have seen. We just don't get the fellating that you do over every step he takes. He's just being a competant AD, nothing more, nothing less.

And, regardless of who you hire, Ole Miss fans would poor-mouth them. You could've hired Pete Carroll and OM fans would've poor-mouthed him.

Its part of being in-state rivals. You poor-mouth the hires the other teams make, no matter who the hire is.

It doesn't mean you're scared.

But you keep trying to convince yourself that Ole Miss fans are afraid of Mississippi State. In the meantime, most of us will be hoping you actually play worth a **** next year so that the AD will keep doing things to better the program instead of allowing it to piss away in mediocrity or worse...

We'll see whose company is still open in 6 years when maintainance is needed.

I think MSU got a larger board, but not necessarily superior. I haven't seen it in person, only the pics on here.

I don't think that there's much argument of which company is the superior company.

We'll see over the next few years. Right now they both look incredible.

hiring someone that has a chance to succeed as a head coach is apparently not "status quo". See Auburn's Chizik debacle.</p>
