Wonder why they suck so much? Not ranked in pre season, recruiting class is terrible for a past blue blood. Haven’t been “good” or top program in years (1987). Looked upon by the media as basically a nobody. Just curious, thoughts?

I think it starts with the fact that their fans are losers. Then, the state itself is pretty dreary. Their warm ups and uniforms are foolish looking. The town of Bloomington is a dump. Assembly Hall is a ramshackle barn that should have been condemned. And their coaches have been, in order, an insane bully, a looney fool, a corrupt cheater and a Clappy clown. Add in the fact that they have gotten so used to losing since 1987 that it's like an addiction, and the miracle is that the Hoosiers aren't even worse than perpetually mediocre.

I mean poor poor IU. They think if they get Langford they are “back” totally delusional fan base!!!
I have heard Indiana fans say, if we get Langford, we will make the tournament. I really hope they do make the NCAA tourney with him, and lose round 1. I want to see a NCAA Tournament round of 64 banner go up. That would be awesome. Their goal is to MAKE the NCAA tournament. Anything else is just gravy

I would rather they continue to not make ANY tournament. Fine by me.

C’mon guys, let’s give them a little credit. They went to the national championship game in ‘02, gave our ‘12 national champion team a good game in the tournament, and if Crean could have figured out a zone defense I really believe they could have won it all in ‘13 (a down year in cbb). So to say they haven’t been good since 1987 is a stretch.

We beat them by double digits in 2012. That's not exactly what I would call a close game. Also if we could have done a couple things different in some close tournament games, we could have 5-6 championship under Cal. See how that works.

Poor coaching/recruiting..Clappy is a Ga, Miss St. lvl coach.. What they don't know yet is Miller is the more of the same .Until the pony up about 8mil a year and bring in a top 5 coach they will not be elite..Not sure who they could get though... Maybe Billy D .I think he will be back in CBB soon..He's still young 53 i think

What has really killed that program is keeping an iconic coach when the game had clearly passed him by and the inability to bring in a big time proven coach after he left.

In Knights last 6 years at IU, they made it out of the 1st round twice, then lost in the 2nd round.

They then elevate their top assistant to HC and he somehow makes the NC game. He then follows that up with 12, 13, 14 and 15 loss seasons.

They then bring in Sampson for 2 years, where he gets the program in trouble. He had no tournament wins in the 3 seasons prior to taking the job.

They then give the job to Tom Cream who won exactly 1 tournament game in the previous 5 seasons. He finishes with a losing record in the Big 10 and can’t get past the sweet 16.

Archie Miller is still a question mark.

They have just made bad hires, plain and simple.

When you hope they get Langford because even Vandy would be more of a threat with him you know they are irrelevant.

Indiana has been past the Sweet 16 exactly ONCE in a quarter century. Kentucky has been to the Elite Eight SIX Times since 2010. Indiana has never won the Big a Ten tournament. IU misses the tournament altogether more often than a number of mid-majors. It's hardly a stretch to say it's been a terrible program for a long, long, long time.

It was a close game until about 5 minutes. You just happened to shoot 35-37 from the line when your season average was about 70%. Shoot that percent and IU wins going away.

As to why IU has sucked, Mike Davis, Kelvin Sampson, and Tom Crean say hello. We've had an extremely incompetent administration. Davis should've been let go in 2001 and Alford hired. But our administration was incompetent and gave in to the racists who insisted Davis be kept or else. Then when Davis was finally canned our racist President insisted that no white man could be hired to follow Davis. It would've been Beilein otherwise. Everything snowballed from there.

Why do they suck? Its kinda simple really...

First off, they call themselves IU, which sounds alot like I-Pew, as in they stink.

Second, their nickname is the Hoosiers, which sounds a lot like losers, so they've got that going for them.

So, they are losers, and they stink. Not to mention those God awful stripes. Does that answer your question???

Do they give brownie points for keeping the game close until 5 minutes are left?
This is a commentary on over 30 yeays of bad results for iusedto be and you want to comment on a game being close for most of the contest? You’re cute.

Lmao....excuses, excuses, excuses. Win going away? When you needed a buzzer beater, at home, to squeak out a win in Bloomington in front of an almost exclusive home crowd? Puh-lease!

Even if we shot 70% from the line, it would've changed the game plan and we still wouldve won. No way was that 2012 UK team losing to that 2012 IU team in the NCAA-T.

Back in their glory days Indiana high school basketball was the best by far. Every year they produced super stars and most picked IU. They never established a national recruiting base like UK and others. So when the pipeline dried up and Knight went off the deep end they became just another ordinary also ran. To be relevant they are going to have to go outside the state of Indiana which is not going to be easy. They are not attractive to most 5 stars across the nation. I just don't see them coming back anytime soon.

I often wondered why Tubby Smith didn't offer his services to Indiana. He would probably be a very good fit there. For a year or two.

.

Lol, so are you all hanging a banner and making popcorn boxes for staying close?

Honestly, think idiotic this sounds everyone. We were down and had to foul, but they made their FTs!!!! How unfair!

You realize UK was on offense when you fouled them, correct? So you could predict exactly what Kentucky would do on offense? They were going to miss all of their shots while Indiana hit theirs, right?

Just a horrible take

Did you leave out any excuses? You guys are just a second/ third tier type program. Never relevant again

Now now, how many of you thought Miller was a good hire? Most of the board called it a solid move.

I thought it was a bad hire at the time. He's totally unproven.

What few understand is that the concept of Indiana basketball as a historic power is essentially flawed. Take a look at their entire history- ALL of it- from the beginning until Knight arrived. You'll find two anomalous NCAA titles in 1940 and 1953, and virtually nothing else. Then came Knight, and for his first 16 years they were a power, going to 4 Final Fours and winning three titles.

Since then... 2 Final Fours and no titles in three decades.

Indiana's days as a national power are three decades in the past. Just like UCLA, they were a flash in the pan... and not nearly as bright.

I think it's a good hire because Miller was the best guy they could get. Which tells you all you need to know about IUsedToBe. It's not a premier job anymore. It's UConn after Jim Calhoun.
