I don't indulge in chemically flavored dips,... For salsa, jalapenos and habaneros are my favorite peppers, with the occasional ghost tossed in when some extra kick is desired.
You're just throwing a raw ghost in your salsa?

Thoughts on just roasting/drying ghosts into flakes/powder and just adding that to your salsa?

Prob a little easier to manage the heat than chopping bits into the salsa.

I've got a friend who does that with multiple varieties of peppers,... He dries them on strings and then grinds them coarsely and puts them into jars for later use in cooking,... Seems to work well.

I make this salsa regularly. It is really good. Make 2x this recipe, at a minimum. Don't over-blend and make it watery. If you want quality salsa at home, this book has many good options. The black bean salsa, which is the table salsa in the author's restaurant, is a winner.

Casa Sanchez salsa is very popular out here in Northern California. They may operate in Southern California as well; I don't know. More of a chunky, pico de gallo kind of salsa that is sold from refrigerated cases and needs to be kept refrigerated until consumed.

Mexican food has become so ubiquitous that I have to think you can get quality salsa even in Iowa, and in fact throughout Iowa.

If you want something store bought that you can use to make a home made salsa, get Herdez Salsa Verde and add some tomato, white onion and salt to it.

Black beans, pinto beans, and corn are all good traditional adds,... I've also had luck using measured amounts cucumber, pineapple, or even strawberries for a fruitier take,... For me it's mostly about what's in season.

Supermarket salsas I like:

Second one is from Aldi, isn’t it? I know I’ve had it and was pleasantly surprised!

Habs are my favorite, too. Actually heading to store after work to grab some for a spicy bbq sauce for the first tailgate. I've recently been told of the habanada pepper, supposedly the flavor of a hab without the heat. I'm intrigued. I love the taste (and heat) but my wife and kids are lightweights.

I just lost my habanero plant to a tunneling critter. Very disappointed. I got maybe 25 habs off it. There were about 30 left green. Sadge.

I've never seen habanadas available in store, only seeds online.

Habanero sauce at a tailgate? Playing with fire, unless you have access to the good bathrooms in the club section.

Smoking some Chex mix tonight as well. Can't wait for Saturday.
That's a good idea, I may have to do that too. Also love throwing these on the smoker.

Nope. Going too far.

Cereal, butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder , and Tony Chachere's.
Put in oven low and slow. No burning. No smoke. And definitely no freaking peanuts.

That's it.

Don't **** with perfection.

Gods damn it. Chex Mix is damn near sacred in my house.

The next step is growing your own tomato, peppers, and onion, and then you will reach nirvana
Meh, the neighbors grow them for me and I give them salsa.

One year they grew tomatillos and I made the most outstanding salsa verde. Made great puerco en salsa verde.
