I know I would feel good about my team if they listed Bradley Sowell as a "key returnee". And then there's Damien Jackson- the guy that Jacksonville State picked on all day and got their game winning Hail Mary off of, and Charles Sawyer- aka the guy that was chasing LaDarius Perkins all night while Jeremy McGee was getting blowed up by the secret weapon.

state fans seem to think OM all the sudden just forgot how to play football and will never win more than 4 games again. So I guess I can understand why you don't think we can do it.
Seeing as how you haven't won more than 4 games in 5 out of the last 7 years, I'd say that's not a completely unreasonable assumption by us.

I know we lost people on defense but I also think the people coming back and the JUCOS will be more talented than the players they are replacing. My thoughts have nothing to do with this recruting class it has to do with the fact we played so many young guys last year and I think they will be better and more athletic. I am hoping we get Lockett back that would be a big boost. I think we will run a more upbeat shotgun version of the offense from last year with Mackey as the QB. I see in your returing starters post from Chris Low ya'll return 1 more offensive player and 2 defensive players. That is not alot of differance. I am not saying we are going to come to Starkville and trash ya'll but I am not ready to just give ya'll the game like most ofyou seem to think is a automatic W. I think BYU will have problems with the heat and humitity plus I want to see what they do against the speed that we have. We routed Fresno State last year and even though we go there I think we win it. As of late we seem to play Vandy better is Nashville than in Oxford so that coupled with the fact I am sure Nutt has heard about as much complaints about losing to Vandy last year as the msu game. They will be ready for it. UK lost alot of offensive talent last year which is why I think we can win that game. We always play ARK and LSU very hard and if you remember we were leading LSU in the last min of the game last year and this year both of those games are in Oxford. Maybe I am wrong and we lose every game but just like ya'll improved and got better we will improve and get better. Nutt knows he is on a short leash and losing 7 or 8 games plus the Egg Bowl next year will make it almost impossible to keep him even with this current class given the salery he makes. I think he will ralley the team and get us to a minor bowl. If not feel free to mark this post and ridicule me for wearing red and blues glasses and not knowing what I am talking about. But be prepared to eat crow if I am right.

just because they are Ole Miss and I am a State fan...ok, well maybe a little; however, looking at the serious issues on defense and 18 QBs with differeing skill sets (or no skill sets in the case of Stanley), I would be a little concerned.

Their OL will be improved. Bolden should put up some solid stats if he can stay healthy. But other than that, there aint much to get too excited about. I mean, some of these JUCOs could turn out to be solid players, but some of them could also turn out like Wayne Dorsey.

Of course the new Ole Miss football mantra is "wait until the year after next". So, Rebel lurkers, call us when 2012 rolls around, because your insignificance next year has already been duly noted.

Sorry DS for including you in that group. I just ahve read " I hope CJ likes losing the next 4 Egg Bowls" so much it all just runs together. I think the coaches know what offense the want to run they just have to see who can run it the best. I addressed my reasons for thinking we can beat BYU and FSU next year along with my theroy on UK and Vandy in another post. I think we have better athlete's on defense this year even if they are juco or sophs. I thin we laked alot of speed on D last year and that has been addressed this year. Other than Singleton, Brassell, Johnson, Golson, Moncrief and Prewitt I think the rest of the HS signees will RS. It is just my opion. Color me optimistic but it what I think will happen.</p>

but I also do not know your team as well as you do. Historically, Nutt has over-achieved in years he is supposed to be down. And the weather could very well be a neutralizing factor when you play BYU. I had not really thought about that to be honest with you.

It sucks that we have to wait for August, September, October and November to settle this spirited debate. I guess thats all we have right now.

The question is going to be whether the defense can make strides. If the defense makes strides, we will be bowling, and you will have your hands full Thanksgiving weekend.

If the defense is giving up 35 points per game again, then we're going to win 4 games. It all hinges on the defense, a defense that's going to see a lot of personnel turnover (which may or may not be such a bad thing).

Honestly, I don't get all the talk about QBs either. Nutt, as per his history, will find one of them that does enough good things and ride that along with the rest of our personnel strengths to a solid offensive production. Who knows what we'll look like or who will QB, but he's proven he's not really a system coach when it comes to offense. He's much more adaptable than most coaches in that regard.

with my comment about the 18 QBs. And I agree, I do not think scoring points will be your problem. Your OL will be better and it was already pretty decent last year. You get Bolden back and he is a solid RB. It really does all boil down to defense. You will be relying on a lot of youth and JUCOs on defense.

Masoli made the OL look a lot better than it was last season and took a lot of defensive attention away from Bolden. Nutt has been able to find a QB to do enough good things because for the most part he's always had pretty decent QBs. Your QB depth chart this fall looks like a Crxxm or a Vandy QB depth chart. The OL will be better than it was last year, but it probably won't look better. I don't think your offense will suck (you're right that Nutt is a good offensive coach), but I wouldn't expect as many points as you got this season either.

So, you are telling us, that notwithstanding the outcome of your season, Nutt will not be fired next year. Really?????

If Nutt has less than a .500 record and gets his *** handed to him again by Mullen, he will not be fired? I find that very very hard to believe. And frankly, some of my Rebel friends that are somewhat in the know would certainly disagree with you if in fact Nutt's record dips below .500 again and he gets his *** kicked by Mullen in 2011.

Nutt, as per his most recent history, with the choice of Masoli, Mackey, and Stanley, picked the guy and promptly went 4-8. That is with the one that was a heisman trophy candidate.

NOW he's going to do better offensively with choice number 2. And so much so, he's going to produce so much offensethat it overcomesthe losses of Powe, Cornell, Walker on defense.

Let me say that more simply two ways. YOU LOST your production on offense and defense. YOU KEPT your coach on defense. OM better be stronger on the OL as that will end your season no matter who is at QB and what Nutt has done in the past.

NOW, if Nutt allows his new Offensive Coord. to do his job and really spread things out using a couple of different qb's and mixing it up, you could win 5-6 games.

That isnt going to happen until things get bad.

For Nutt to keep his job 2 things must happen. There can be no early season embarassing loss. There can be no embarassing loss in the egg bowl (more than 17 points).

I am praying you keep him by the way.

I disagree...I think you can get much worse. I only see 2 "bag" games for you (not counting open which you lost to last year) and your "easy" games are all on the road.

BYU
SoIll
@vandy
UGA
@fresno
Bama
Ark
@atmU
@Kent
LaT
LSU
Mullenville

Can anyone make a good case for a third win?

But I do think he should have us consistently going to bowls. And every few years competing for the West.

I dont expect us to compete us for the West very often.

The recruiting was cheaper than normal this year since you guys took yourselves out of the game by playing tattle tail on AU. Thanks for savings us a sack of coin for being dumbasses when you got caught with your hand in the jar.

not validate his points? Hell a kid from the MS blind and deaf could make the same predictions and it wouldn't make it ant less legitimate.
