Who could replace Kirk at Iowa?

Iowa with its deep booster resources could easily pay 8 - 10 million a year for a coach with national level achievements. The state is loaded with in state talent year after year and with it’s reputation of being a pipeline to the NFL I think the future is bright beyond belief.

They've had an all time run over the last 5-6 years but they're done and their fans probably know their time is about up. KKKirk has at best 5 more years left and their QB has a long ways to go based off what I've seen. To add to that their long time racist POS S&C coach is gone. Once KKK is gone so is the "Iowa way". I don't see them doing any better than taking a chance on some coordinator and won't be anything more than a .500 team unless they get lucky.

Sure the trolls on here annoy me but as a Coloradan I couldn't care less about their program. One of the more boring programs in the conference. And that says a lot considering the B1G is a very boring conference. To think they could bring in some name coach is absolutely laughable.

Edit: To add to that, their program is one of the more antiquated programs in P5. There's no one out there who can continue their model at any level of success. Once KKK is gone they're going to have to reinvent themselves. Good luck with that, we've been trying for 20 years.

I don't think America as a whole views them nearly as negative as you do.

OK,
common sense one oh one for you.
'deep' resources tend to deeply disagree, not always pull together.
Admins, monies need to be aligned, as a certain level of expectations have been set, and the backing is there when it is, but when it comes to having the ability to change...

Not so fast, that alignment often comes apart.

Iowa without KF is going to greatly challenged in ways it cant foresee

That entire statement is so far removed from reality, it is insane.

Your post was interesting until your comment about the talent in the state. Iowa is small market and turns out a handful of D1 talent each year. Iowa turns out NFL lineman regularly but not any skill players to mention. Their strength has been development of unheralded recruits, which could certainly change under a new staff.

That bird to the east of Lincoln is done overcooked and needs to see the light of day for what it is, a non relevant program that has seen its best days. The Sparrows nowadays are a cure for insomnia, take that for what it is worth.

They turn out a ton of good NFL tight ends

Why would Klieman take a step down and coach at iowa? I suppose it’s plausible that the low expectations paired with a big paycheck guaranteed annually would be tempting.....

And why would Kirk Farentz staff’s development of players make the job more appealing to potential coaches? Iowa logic, I guess.

At iowa, you have pressure and bandwaggoners.
No easy replacement for KF, as even KF beats Fry, yet many are wanting him gone, thus the pressure.
Winning, with such a steady long term staff, come much easier, and the level to create that, knowig its a developmental school compounds that pressure.

Losing that S&C coach is one wheel off the bus already.

I see a high probability of Ferentz hanging onto the job as long as possible just to piss in everyone's faces. I don't think he's going anywhere.

I agree. I also feel that he has earned that right to some degree of being able to hang it up when he wants. I'm not taking a lot of stock into the results of this year anyways. Would I rather be 2-0, of course, but both of those games could have gone the other way. A year like this really hurts a team like Iowa that creates an edge by not making mistakes and being on point. 10 penalties against Purdue alone will not help you win many games.

Yeah I agree with this. Iowa should have run the ball a hell of a lot more when up 17-0. Also, they need to start getting it to their playmakers more. Goodson needs the ball in space because he is super dangerous if he has a little room.

Iowa is super annoying to watch. Everyone can see the player makers they have and they are so focused on throwing the ball to the big, slow TE/s all the time or the RBs out of the flat and avoid taking advantage of their actual play makers at WR. What’s the point of having the WRs if they are always just decoys....??? I mean really???

Then here’s the other part, I have never seen another team that milks the clock from their opening drive to the finals seconds of a game like Iowa does. Even on their opening drive their QB doesn’t get the ball till it’s under 10 seconds left on the play clock on every single play. I know this is inaccurate but it almost feels like their Offense is playing it safe to protect their defense. I know that’s not the case but it sure feels like thats their plan every single game. Shorten the game up....

That’s vintage Kirk. Been following Iowa football for 20+ years first as a transplanted Husker behind enemy lines than I married a Hawkeye. ‘Risk’ is not part of Kirks playbook, although their bowl game last year vs USC showed what is possible when there is little to lose. He’s a genius. Lol.

This may be the saddest post in message board history.

burn in hell, iowa football. You were barely noticed, and will just as soon be forgotten.

I don’t know if I’d call him a “genius” lol. He definitely knows what he wants for an offense and defense, though. That’s for sure. Watching Iowa football is one of the most boring things a guy (or gal) can do. It’s like watching golf on tv....🥱

It will never happen. They may pay 5-6 but not 8-10. After cutting 4 sports there is no way

That’s absolutely Kirk’s philosophy. Which is why they can knock off top 5 teams they have no business beating, while losing to Central Michigan, Western Michigan, North Dakota State, etc.

The defense plays into that philosophy as well. Let the short passes happen so the clock is still running when you aren’t in control of the ball. Let FGs happen at most and trade 3 points for 8 minutes of the clock.

I don't think Ferentz is going anywhere for a long time. They won't fire him, and he won't resign because it would mean that his son would be unemployed.
