I remember hearing on the radio driving to the office the first reports that a small plane had hit the World Trade Center then a little later hearing about the 2nd.

I was about 5 minutes from work when I heard on the radio. I always kept one window of my computer at work opened with yahoo/finance. The premarket had absolutely cratered by the time I got signed on. I spent most of the day watching the television in our break room absolutely shocked & wondering if my generation (35 at the time) was about to experience our World War.

My wife had just returned on Sunday evening 9/09 from NYC celebrating her 40th birthday weekend with two friends. They had been in the Windows of the World bar late Saturday night 9/08/early Sunday morning 9/09.

Spent the rest of the day in the conference room watching the today show which stayed on air all day. I'll never forget it. No work was done at my company that day.

Same here. Except I was at work when word came the 1st plane hit. I figured it was a small private plane accident. We spent the rest of the day in the conference room watching the news. Then I gave blood on the way home.

Sitting at my desk with Drudge Report on my computer screen. Looked up to see the page refresh with the old school flashing gumball machine blue/red and a stock photo of a Cessna with the headline “Plane flies into World Trade Center.” At first, it was assumed to be an accident.

When the first plane hit I was getting ready for class my sophomore year at State and didn’t have the TV on (which was unusual for me). I listened to music until I got to the parking lot behind Ballew Hall because in that parking lot I could pick up the Wake Up Crew in Memphis on my truck stereo and they were talking about planes hitting the WTC so I called my mom and asked “are they talking about a prop plane?” She just kinda paused “no….they were jet airliner planes.” The hair stood up on my neck.

5th grade watching channel 1 news. I was old enough to know that something bad happened but not old enough to know we were under attack.

I was in Starkville as a kid just out of college, dispatching trucks around the country. Was on the phone with a guy at a truck stop in NJ and he said "Hey, something's on the tv here about buildings on fire in the city..."

I read pretty much any book published about the lead up to and the perpetrators of that day but the NatGeo series 9/11: One Day in America is the absolute most gripping single piece of media produced. It has footage and stories in it that are absolutely surreal. You can find it on Disney+ now.

If you want the best book ever written on the subject, I think it's "The Looming Tower" by Lawrence Wright. It won a bunch of awards for a reason. The miniseries it was made into is good too.. but the book is on another level.

I was at work. Had a broker friend in the building with a tv in his office. Watched the 2nd plane hit from there and stayed through the collapses.

We had a long conversation about whether the buildings were wired for demolition because of the way the steel was popping like explosives going off all along the beams.

Crazy, scary day. Nothing remotely like it in my lifetime.

I was set to run a clinic and work in the afternoon, so 4 of us decided to play in the morning.

It happened when we were on on the front 9 and at the turn we saw some info on the TV, but it was chaos and nothing was known. Thru the back 9 more info came in from a couple phone calls to us from family.

At my office. I was walking down the hall and heard something about a plane crash at the WTC on the radio we had on. I went to a TV we had that wasn't on, turned it on, and saw the second plane crash. We brought the two clients we had in the office up and we all watched for 30 minutes or so. We eventually hurriedly concluded what we needed to do. We were open the rest of our week, but everyone canceled. That week was just surreal. I'll say this, I absolutely miss the unity in America those first couple of months.

Freshman at State. Was in a Dean’s office appealing two parking tickets. Some guy, I gues the dean, came out and told the receptionist that a plane had hit one of the towers. Then he came back out and told her a second plane had hit.
I rushed back to Hightower. We had a pretty wild and active hall normally. But every single room door was open with guys sitting silently watching the news.
I remember more details from the remainder of that day than any day until probably the birth of my kids.

a side story to somewhat join another thread. Friend and I along with his wife went to NYC to see in friend in 2000. We’re doing the tourist gray line thing when we both admitted we had to ****. My friend is a bit of a germaphobe and he said said “let’s get off at the trade center, they have clean bathrooms. I took a dump in the trade on Sept 11 2000. One year prior. Still freaks me out to this day

19th floor of the (formerly) Chevron Tower in downtown Houston. Was sitting at my desk when someone walked by and said that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I assumed it was a small private plane and dismissed it but opened Yahoo News on my computer just to check.

Once we all realized what was going on, we gathered in a large conference room and watched it all unfold live. Saw the 3rd plane hit the Pentagon and both towers fall. Don’t remember the exact time, but we were all told to evacuate downtown Houston around 10:00 - 11:00 in case there were planes headed our way.

Spent the rest of the day at home watching the endless loop on Fox News.

Went in to work and there was an incident w a Palestinian IT guy who was trying to justify the hijacking. He was immediately fired and posters printed on security gates do not let enter.

It was really strange not seeing any planes in the air from B’ham after.

I was in my office at the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC) on the campus of UAH, having a meeting with one other person. Got an email (I believe it was strictly inter-office then, may have been called Apple Mail at the time) from our secretary who told us to tune to CNN, that a planed at hit the World Trade Center We could do that on our computers then. I did, and I and the person I was meeting with were glued to the screen for hours, watching the towers and then the Pentagon. I went home early that day, as did my wife who was a teacher in the Huntsville school system at the time. It was an unbelievable day. There was a candlelight ceremony that evening at our neighborhood club house, attended by hundreds.

I was on my way to teach a lab. Like Anon, I heard Rick and Bubba talking about a small plane hitting the first tower as I drove in, then I went in Harned to set up the lab not knowing what was going on.

When only 1 person showed up for the lab, I went down the hall to ask another TA if they knew why no one was showing up for class. They had a TV on & we spent the morning watching the news in one of the old Plants & Humans labs in Harned.
