That's funny since you, a moderator, have been "stalking and harassing" me on this forum for 2 months. This site's new leadership is great except for one huge mistake: keeping you on board.

Even though I find some of your posts annoying and I have had you on ignore at times, you have a valid complaint. Moderators should not be trolling posters. They can suspend or ban you if warranted, otherwise they should leave you be.

I wonder where this poster ranks in sales. I know I had one. Amazing, the reaction 10 year old me had to high beams. So scandalous! lol

Still the all-time biggest seller.

Maybe it's just the dead period of message boards.

Almost everything is OT, and a lot of crappy OT.

Yeah. I think it's just the time of year. We won't know much til late summer I believe.

I'm comfortable and happy here and need a compelling reason to move. Premium content alone is not enough for me. I was once a premium member here, but I'm so turned off by the verbal commitment/decommitment games in football that I no longer care who's visiting, who's leaning, etc. It means nothing to me until NSD. Hoops is a different story, though.

Methinks that John O saw the handwriting on the wall, Rivals has been closing down the free sites on many of the other schools boards & it will probably happen here very soon, also the national writers for Rivals have always had a strong dislike for RU.

Maybe everybody went over to the Grease Trucks board .

that site's posters seem not to be that argumentative with each other when disagreeing. More like friends respecting the other's opinion while telling them they're wrong

Yeah...when first Swami and then Bump stopped posting there it got real boring.
I was just wondering if the 247 free board had the same or less traffic than the Grease Trucks one.

That board still exists? I think there are only 10 posters over there.

I think before the switch ( when 247's free RU board was Scarlet Report) it was close and possibly the GreaseTruck had a little more traffic.

Allowing PSU trolls like JCKnight post here with impunity has probably pushed some posters away.

I don’t think JCKnight trolls at all. He might have some critical views but if you really want to see trolling, just scan the board real quick and it’ll jump out at you fairly quickly.

Ummm no. John is a good guy but not so great business man. He took a money grab thinking sheep would follow. He was wrong.

I'm convinced most of the posters left here aren't smart enough to figure out a troll if they saw one.

How dumb r they exactly? Well, take the Corey Bolds thread for example; did really no one else but me figure out that one of the many reasons Bolds will never transfer here is b/c Franklin will block him from transferring to upcoming opponents, not to mention B1G East members? Like I said, dumb board.

Now, for them to figure out that Bolds was a tremendously overrated recruit and that there's a reason why all those Power5 offers went away his senior year, now THAT would be too much for fans here to realize, but I thought they'd at least realize that PSU would block him from BIG East opponents.

Until they improve functionality they have no chance of generating much traffic. Even then after that they'll likely attract posters in dribs and drabs fashion rather than in one fell swoop like might have been possible on the initial move if functionality/design were ready at the outset.

I visit this site more often and have posted there a handful of times. I will still continue to visit here but the chances of me visiting there will increase if/when the functionality improves. I suspect that is possible for many other posters as well but again in drib and drabs.

But one way to look at is they pretty much have nowhere to go but up.

I was premium member here for a few years and it was a waste, I hardly visited after the initial sign up. The stuff just doesn't interest me. If that site doesn't improve or if this site ever closed down the free board, guess what then I won't visit rutgers internet message boards as often. Although it would suck to lose the community aspect of this place, the world will keep revolving for me. Do whatever suits you, no need to make an issue about this site or that one. Do what you like.

I pretty much share this position. The premium content is primarily recruiting, and I'm not a recruiting junkie, so that stuff doesn't interest me (or at least doesn't interest me enough to pay for it).

I like the free board here because of the sense of Rutgers community and the discussion on multiple aspects of Rutgers athletics (as well as the off-topic discussions, especially in the off-season), and the input from a varied group of posters.

When the switch happened, I checked out the other board. But the format is so bad (especially on mobile), that it was almost unreadable. At first I split my time between both boards, and figured I would end up where there was the most traffic. And that ended up here. There is more traffic on this free board in one hour than there is on the other free board in one week. (The premium board on the other site seems to fare better than their free board, but I guess that is because people who pay for the premium content there suffer through the board design because they want to discuss the premium content. 80% of the threads on their premium board are about recruiting or other premium content, so there is still very little general discussion.)

They say they plan to revamp the board design over there. But even when that happens, I don't know how they get people to migrate from here to there. Unless Rivals does something (either through action or inaction) to drive posters away, I don't know if there is an incentive for people to leave this board to post more regularly on their board.

As long as this place remains status quo I don't think posters will generally migrate over there permanently. They pretty much lost that opportunity at the outset.

But when they do improve functionality can they get more posters to visit both sites? I think it's possible to increase traffic and I don't think it's as big an issue as some make it out to be "oh man I don't want to visit two boards etc..." How hard is it? I visit many business news sites like CNBC, Bloomberg, WSJ etc... or sports sites like ESPN, CBS, Fox etc.. and I'm sure many others consume info from multiple like minded sites so what's the difference in this case.

It doesn't take much effort/time to scan through here and post/read threads I'm interested in and it wouldn't take much additional effort to do so on that site as well if functionality/design improve. Right now, the best they can hope for is a slow improvement of traffic if they improve design enough. But if this place ever closed down the free board as someone above mentioned and the other site improved functionality then that's one scenario where you'd get full scale migration. Beyond that though I think it would be hard for them.

A big question is how valuable the free board is.

I'm sure there are some metrics around it - but the only financial value I can see in the free board is as a means to entice people into the premium board and to a lesser extent as a platform for advertising.

If the metrics show that you don't really get many premium memberships out of the free board, or if the free board members join for a short period of time then cancel their subscriptions, then it makes sense to focus on the premium board without having to deal with the headaches of maintaining/moderating a free community that isn't contributing much to the bottom line.

Of course, if the metrics show that the primary driver of premium subscriptions is a thriving free board, then it makes sense to focus on building up a free board community to lure new subscribers in.

I don't know what the metrics are (or if the staff of the other site is even using metrics to determine their strategy), but it seems they are (at least initially) focusing on the premium board at the expense of building a free board experience.

That place is just not good right now and those who say it’s so easy to start one of these up please go ahead and try. It is not easy it’s actually pretty hard. The actual reporters work very hard and have to travel all over NJ to stay on top of recruiting. I hope they are compensated well. I happily pay the $100 a year to get the inside scoop. It’s fun to get the info on my school. Everyone should try the premium it’s practically peanuts to have it. I don’t think the other site is worth it as this one is the better site. It’s a waste of time since the format is so bad and who has time to be on two sites with work and life.

It reminds me of the saying from the immigrants at Ellis island. They learned 3 things:
1) the streets weren’t paved with gold.
2) the streets weren’t paved at all.
3) they were going to be the ones to pave it.
