Define what "believing in" Miles means? To do what? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I just don't see us ever being much more than we are right now. Decent once in awhile. I'm fine with Miles staying or going ultimately, I doubt it makes much difference in the end.

huge win tonight, one of the best in miles career at NU. But don’t worry, heaven forbid we lose one more game this year they will be calling for his head
Miles problem is and has always been consistency with his teams. Prime example the crap show against Texas Tech then the next week beats Clemson on the road.
. Now can he continue to get them the rest of the year? If yes then this post is valid.

Nebrasketball had its second-best record last season. Anybody whining about replacing Miles probably also thought Shaka Smart was coming to Nebraska, and therefore, are beyond help.

We’re in a really interesting situation with our basketball program. I think it’s similar to a Kentucky football program (probably worse) We are arguably better than we’ve ever been (we have never won a tourney game) so that isn’t saying much. I think that makes it easy for many to be blinded by relative success and think the upward trajectory will keep going.

I have family friend ties to the Miles family (My grandma lives in Faulkton, SD, near Doland) and he’s a good dude. I do however believe at this point that Miles has somewhat plateaued. He hasn’t really been on an upward trajectory while here. It’s obvious he needs at least 1 pro level player to have ANY success on offense (Petteway, when he had a good year, Palmer now). You will never get very far in the tourney if you have no answer for a good defense. I don’t think he will be able to burst into that elite recruiting sphere either.

I also do not buy the whole “no good coach will come coach here” crap, which to me sounds the same as “we can’t recruit good athletes to Lincoln.” We have the facilities and fans, someday it will happen. I would love to be proven wrong, and to me if Miles wins a tourney game, he’s gotta stay.

And yet if he doesn’t make it to the dance he’s probably out

I'd like to hire a guy like Nate Oats before another Big Ten program does, like Minnesota. But I want more to win our first NCAA game this year.

Miles has done a good job recruiting, but he doesn't seem to have any creative offensive sets to get guys open. All we ever do is set a ball screen, then someone goes 1-on-1. Almost zero motion away from the ball. Fortunately, Palmer is a great 1-on-1 player, but when you face a great defensive team like Texas Tech, you need to find other ways to get open shots. Creighton does an excellent job of this, you would think after 6 straight losses, Miles might steal some of their offensive sets.

I'm still here. Great win, but still feel like Miles isn't utilizing our talent the way he should. We still have awful dry spells, and still skeptical. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong because I love NU sports, but still in prove it mode with Miles.
Prove it!

Honest question, what PROVEN coach could Nebraska get if they let Miles go in a year or two? I don't follow college BB all that much, other than the Huskers and some of the heavyweights (KU, UNC, Kentucky) when they play.

I just don't see Nebraska as a school that could attract a guy who could recruit very well and get the team in March Madness year after year. At least that's what history is telling me.

I’m feeling ornery tonight after another Miles special. I guess I will start believing when he proves me wrong. Can’t lay eggs like this very much in this conference or we will be looking at another NIT
They've got some ammo tonight. Miles had no answer for how physical Minnesota was in that 2nd half and we couldn't get many open shots.

We might hit the lottery with a young coach, but IF a guy did win consistently here he would probably bolt for the next blue blood job that came along.

KU football got Les Miles.
Nebraska basketball can get a good, proven coach.
Anyway, it's a little early to write this season off.
But at the end of the day, In Moos I Trust

So you’re telling me that your argument against getting a different coach is that if he turned us into a consistent winner he might leave? I’m not saying Miles needs to be fired yet, but he has a lot to prove to me yet and this is a make or break season IMO

Clemson barely beat St. Peter's at home the other night. They are not very good this year. That will not end up even being a quality win by the end of the season.

No my argument is that we've got the best coach we've had here in a while and there is no guarantee that the next guy is going to be better....that is unless maybe you could have gotten a guy like Altman. I'm not an Altman fan but there is no doubt that he's a better coach than Miles. The problem is that we supposedly threw a truck load of money at Altman and he said no thanks. So IF Altman won't come back to Nebraska, who you gonna get? NU basketball is as respectable as its' been since Danny Nee and you don't just go tossing the baby out with the bath water.

Fans are going to start talking about Tyronn Lue.

I'm not sold on Lue as a college coach, but I think he'd be an easy sell to recruits and could be a dynamic recruiter. Former Nebraska player, 41-years-old, NBA ring, coached LeBron James - who are you wanting to talk to if you're an 18-year-old kid, him or Miles or Izzo or Beilein?

I would prefer to see Miles make it a moot point by leading NU to some tournament success, though.

We have a good team with three senior stars. But is anything being built after seven years? 2019 looks bleak.
Time for some crow lunch based on my Nov. comments about this team. Sorry.

This “good team” sucks.

Love these revived threads. NIT did look like the very worst possible outcome when this post appeared. How about now? Maybe The Toilet Classic?

I don't know. Barely beating an unranked team that just lost to a bad Creighton team is not exactly what I call a monumental accomplishment. But the Texas Tech blowout loss was inexcusable for a team with this much experience. Only Miles could lose that badly with this talent. Lots of expectations this season and tonight was a requirement, not a glorious accomplishment. Jury is still out..

Hats off to the above poster for not falling for the hype. Smart dude. ;)
