Perry is a very legitimate candidate, but in my opinion, and by glancing at the statistics, Petty isn't even close to the top four or five. Maybe I am missing something, but at any rate, it is an interesting discussion.
This conference needs a serious upgrade. Only Arkansas or Florida has had a good taste of success. We need Arkansas back in the hunt

Just think petty has been alabama's 1 constant. Plus love his style

I agree, and if Musselman gets it rolling it will be even better. I don't know if you have seen it already, but here is an interesting article from KSR about his visit to Bud Walton this season.

That was a good write up.

I was perusing this article about BWA
https://arkansasrazorbacks.com/facility/bud-walton-arena/...

...and I stumbled across the name Frank Broyles. THE Frank Broyles. In the 1960’s during his dynastic football run, he said that if Kentucky wanted to be really competitive—they would have to take advantage of Ohio. Basically recruit the heck out of it. Lo and behold—Coach Stoops is taking Coach Broyles advice.

It's not always about just the stats. There have been plenty of players that have great stats but we're on garbage teams. IQ or Richards could have had higher stats but they play on a team with other good players so their numbers are lower.
You have to look at the total package and not just stats.

That's an amazing comment, thanks for sharing!

As for BWA, if I remember correctly, when it was designed and built, it had the most seats in the smallest area ever designed.

Trust me, I get it, but nobody really knows how good is good enough. Mississippi State had a good season and ended up as the 4 Seed, if that meets the mark for a POY Candidate, then hands down it goes to Perry.

LOL huh ? UT and AU have been elite programs ( top 10ish ) the last few years and both will continue to be as they are bringing in a lot of talent in recruiting . UF is always there and Arkansas is on the rise .

If it is awarded to the best player on the best team, he should get it. If it is awarded based on overall performance for the entire conference season, regardless of the team record, Mason Jones should be a lock.

Jones will be first team but he won't win POY. Jodie Meeks had similar numbers for Kentucky in 2009 (almost 24 points per game) but the team struggled and went to the NIT. LSU won the league and Marcus Thornton won the award. I'm guessing we see a similar outcome.

SEC announced the Top 4 finalists for POY on Twitter last night.

Quickley
Perry
Edwards
Jones

Jones is the best scorer in the conference, I get the argument for him. Perry was a double-double machine. I think you have to give it to Quickley. He doesn't have the quantity of 30-pt games that Jones had, or the double-doubles like Perry, but he was just flat out clutch and consistent all through conference play. He scored in double-figures every single conference game. Every. single. game.

Best player on the best team, and the most consistent player in the conference, I think Quick deserves it.

This is the best answer so far. IQ had great numbers and his team won the league. That's the winning combination.

Surprised Nick wasn't on the list too.

Yante Maten won it when Georgia had a losing conference record though.

I can see both sides. Winning helps but at the same time if it were the end all then the Alabama QB would win the Heisman every year even when they clearly aren't the best player. It's the same argument for coach of the year, Cal and Saban win it 99% of the time but they also have ungodly more talent than the rest of the league most years. I don't think they should be dinged for having more talent because that's part of the job but it is what it is.

I still like Richards for the award. Quickley put up good stats but doesn't feel as dominant as Nick.

It's because Edwards has no intention of making his team better. If I'm another player on that team, I'm Uber pissed that Crean literally mortgaged my entire season so a top talent can come there and Jack up wild threes in hopes they can beat UK at home.

Crean was only a half short. That's what he tells his AD!
