All I know is that Wallace gives you the same level of ball handling, far better shooting, and far better defense. That’s clear at this point. It’s funny bc the loss to St. Peter’s was Bc of Tyty Grady and Mintz. Those guys were just terrible.

Wheeler was 4-8 from the field. Tyty was 2-10. Wheeler did have 6 turnovers. But he did have 6 assists. Tyty had 2 turnovers, but only 1 assist… Tyty also got beat many times on back door cuts (along with Mintz). So I’ll ask again who was better? Look at the numbers. People talk about turnovers but fail to mention assists. And fail to mention he was 50% from the floor why Tyty was 2-10 and Grady was 1-9…. Yeah they were much worse then Wheeler. What is up with people that can't run back the St Pete game.
1. Wheeler had 6 T0s...and 3 down the stretch of last 5 minutes
2. Also the St Pete guard had 27 pts and abused Wheeler and TyTy the entire game on defensive end....along with the white kid with the porn stache who lit up Grady.
3. Wheeler was scared out of his pants at the FT line...total choke job at the line.
Wheeler was a huge part of the St Pete disaster behind Grady and TyTy....I had no problem with Mintz in that game to be honest.

So he doesn't shoot the 3 well, so what. Wayne Turner shot ,319 from 3 in his career and he led us to 3 title games. If you have good shooters the 3 is not that important, pushing the basketball, distribution g the ball and running the offense is the point t guardsprimary job ,and Wheeler does that exceedingly well. T he fans. OBSESSION with his 3 point shooting is mystifying.. Granted last years team WAS NOT a good 3 point shooting team. IMO this year's is, Wheeler will thrive with this lineupYeah...he's off to a whopping 0-6 from 3pt land...and many of them being total brick city. Once we play legit talent with a gameplan....it will be back to going under every ball screen, sagging off him to clog drive lanes and no post game. And on defense...he's strong ball defender but once teams drive him...he is so short and can't jump...teams just shoot over him.
I don't see why we can't see that he's still the same deficient player at end of last year. Hell he didn't even bother to drop 5 pounds off his chubby pysique...which he needs to do.
Good thing you don’t have any basketball knowledgeNothing has changed, last night was the only type of team he can look good against. It’s not that he sucks either, it’s that he just doesn’t have what it takes to take a big time school to a title, at least being the lead guard. He could still provide a spark off the bench imo.
We know that Grady & TyTy were playing hurt, too, right? It was said that Grady had to crawl inside the locker room after the game, or something along those lines. Point is, he hurt too badly to even walk right. That bs is what makes the Sharpe situation even more infuriating. But, it’s amazing how ppl will trash two injured players, gutting it out, in order to prop up Wheeler. TyTy & Grady had an excuse for playing poorly. And, with 6 TOs to match his 6 assists, bad defense & FT misses, I don’t understand why Wheeler gets a pass & supposedly didn’t hurt us.Wheeler was 4-8 from the field. Tyty was 2-10. Wheeler did have 6 turnovers. But he did have 6 assists. Tyty had 2 turnovers, but only 1 assist… Tyty also got beat many times on back door cuts (along with Mintz). So I’ll ask again who was better? Sure he missed big free throws. But if the rest of the guards weren’t so bad both offensively and defensively, it wouldn’t have come down to that.
But it’s a new season and Wheeler is a stud pg. lucky to have him
Geez...Wheeler is a stud PG? You can't be realistic.Wheeler was 4-8 from the field. He lead the SEC in assists the last 2 years..and played well against good teams..I dont know what more you want.Geez...Wheeler is a stud PG? You can't be realistic.
- Wheeler is decent PG but he's not a stud and he's got major warts. Playing him 30 mpg is going to get you beat in good teams in NCAA.
- I'm not defending TyTy or Grady in St Pete game....they were both bad....and both hurt but that is besides the point. But Wheeler choked in St Pete game in 2nd half and 6 TO is terrible for a PG in not a high possession game. I still don't get the Mintz blame...he was a back up guard who hit 3 of 7 shots.....he was not awful.
Without him UK would have lost this game. JMO.I'll come here to be balanced....Wheeler showed good learderhsip vs. a stronger team and he was in control and strong with the ball. Good game and piece Wheeler can play for this team.
Im assuming you are talking about the St. Peters game and if so then please go watch that game back as that was quite literally not how they were defending him at all.In a do or die game however, teams will simply sag off and give him 3-4 feet and be ready to immediately help on other guys who can actually shoot from the perimeter. It’s almost like we’ve seen it happen before.
This x100. Some guy was arguing a couple days ago saying Wheeler got abused on the defensve end by that guard who had like 27 so I went and watched all the baskets he scored. All of them where on a combination of Tyty, Grady, and Mintz. They collectively played one of the worst perimeter defense of games I have seen in a while. It’s funny bc the loss to St. Peter’s was Bc of Tyty Grady and Mintz. Those guys were just terrible.
Wallace was the better player (IMO) overall in the 4 games that I watched. Wheeler was 0/9 from 3 pt. Most of his points came from layups, to which he will see zone when in games that count. Yes, he is fast, but sometimes he plays too fast and out of control and least to unnecessary TOs. Agree...off the bench is better for him.Yep. Nothing wrong with realizing it, either. Wallace is better on both ends & you’d have to sit him or Reeves to make room for Wheeler. I’ve said it all summer, but, we’d be best served with Wheeler coming off the bench as an energy guy. He does some good things & he’s not a BAD player. But, Wallace & our wings are just better players, with fewer limitations & offer much more on both ends. Some fans would sacrifice having the best team possible on the floor in order to spare certain players’ feelings, though.
Turner was like the 10th man on the 96 team, so no, he did not "lead us to 3 title games".So he doesn't shoot the 3 well, so what. Wayne Turner shot ,319 from 3 in his career and he led us to 3 title games. If you have good shooters the 3 is not that important, pushing the basketball, distribution g the ball and running the offense is the point t guardsprimary job ,and Wheeler does that exceedingly well. nothing is clear at this pointAll I know is that Wallace gives you the same level of ball handling, far better shooting, and far better defense. That’s clear at this point.
Hell no, I don't know. Even if he weren't starting he would be a great asset. He led the SEC in assists the past two years, no small feat. He’s right ya know
The truth according to who? You? Sounds like you are smarter than Cal, where are you coaching next year? Not bashing anyone, just stating the truth. I take it you disagree?
Glad to finally see somebody say it, point blank - straight up. Obviously, I agree.Cats are better with him on the bench.
I take it a lot of posters disagree. Not bashing anyone, just stating the truth. I take it you disagree?
Yep, we are better with him on the bench. And even better with him in the game.Glad to finally see somebody say it, point blank - straight up. Obviously, I agree.
I am glad you are smarter than me, I keep wasting time on these dumb posts.Well, here we go again. You're wrong of course, and the stats prove it beyond any reasonable doubt. He was a Cousy Award finalist last season, which means that group believes he was in the top 5 of all pgs last season. He has led the SEC in assists per game the last 2 seasons, at UK last year and at Georgia the previous year. In that same time period, he has led ALL major conference players in assists per game. He is 2nd on UK's all time list in assists per game.
So, you're foolish if you believe it would be wise to sit him for his senior season. Only a complete moron would do that.
This is no slight against Cason Wallace, who is a combo guard and will start alongside Wheeler at the 2, and move over to point when Wheeler goes out. He is looking to have an excellent season as well and brings another completely different set of valuable skills to the table.
Wheeler will start and get the vast majority of minutes at point guard for the team. Thank goodness the opinions of people on this board, who have found their whipping boy for this season, matter exactly zero.
Aside from all this, if you can see with your own eyes, and it was true all last season and also in the Bahamas, the offense is on another level when Wheeler is on the floor. He puts tremendous pressure on defenses and nearly always finds open shooters. Someone is getting an open shot. If they make them, we win. This will be my only post in this thread, because I will not waste anymore time on this imbecilic argument.
My goodness, 83% from two point range, wonder why that is ignored so often? For the four games in the Bahamas wheeler shot 83% from two point range and 0% from three. If I'm the coach I tell him shoot the three till you miss then shut it down if you do.
This board would be better if you were on the bench.Cats are better with him on the bench.
It is evident you hate Wheeler.I never said I hate Wheeler, Goober. Just think Wallace is better.
I remember you loved Allen last year.Cats are better with him on the bench.
I'm sorry for forming my own opinion. I didn't realize that everyone's opinion had to be the same as yours. I take it you own this board?I remember you loved Allen last year.
Just pointing out how wrong you were about Allen. So you saying Wheeler is terrible might be a blessing.I'm sorry for forming my own opinion. I didn't realize that everyone's opinion had to be the same as yours. I take it you own this board?
I hope they do pack it in. That would be an ideal situation in my opinion.Wheeler won't get the easy layups he got from the Bahamas. Teams will just pack it in and dare him to shoot. That 83% from two will be meaningless.
