That is a good point. There were numerous occasions when better shooters passed on open shots and passed the ball to Wheeler with almost no time on the shot clock.

No doubt, it happened all the time early in the season. As I said then, nobody wants the ball right there. Reeves has come a long way since those early games. Everyone was deferring to Wheeler, the smallest guy on the court trying to create a last second shot, but when the guys keep throwing it back to you, what can you do? And then they say "that's exactly what Calipari wants" which is nonsense. I think we have some guys who will try to make a play now, which is good. Late clock scoring is not Wheeler's strength at all, I think we all know that.

But Wheeler can give the team something nobody else on the team can bring- excellent ball handling, press breaking, excellent court vision and ability to get guys open shots, and speed to burn. I'm thrilled to have him back, even if it's only for 5-10 minutes a game.

Despite all his shortcomings, he's the team's best passer by a mile. On a team of bad to mediocre passers, that's something at least.

He looked pudgy and out of shape at the end of last season. He lacked the speed that changes a game. If he’s in shape and healthy this team just got better.

I do agree with others tho who worry about how Cal will play Wheeler. I was vocal about the team being better without him, not because of my disdain for SW, but bc of Cals insistence to play him in the wrong spots, lineups, and for too long. It’s kinda a shame Wheeler was put into that situation by Cal, but it was clear he was misused.

Maybe the fact that he is coming off a month long injury will force Cal into using him in the proper role—minimal PT to spell Cason, change tempo of the game. I hope so. I guarantee there will be a shite storm of epic proportions on Cal if he reverts back to using him improperly and the Cats lose esp first round. I do think how long he was out precludes him from that tho.
