In lieu of a real game...for those who drove 5-10 or more hours to be there (there are more people who do this than most realize)...must show your tickets...or pay to get in...

If I was a paying customer in the stadium for three hours before the game was canceled… I would like a little insight into what took place, the thought process about the decisions that were made. That seems reasonable to me.

I'm sure that finding 50+ hotel rooms and food for 100+ players/coaches/support staff was a huge logistical nightmare. Not to mention the fact that since the cancellation was announced at around 11, they probably wouldn't have gotten settled into their hotel and been fed until 1 or 2 AM and then would have probably had to wake up at 5 or 6 AM if they would have played at 10:30. That's not good either. I guess they could have given them concession stand food since I'm sure there was a lot left. Haha.

My biggest issue is that there wasn't some sort of contingency planned in the week leading up to this since there was talk of this possibly happening all week. I wish they could have moved the game to 1 or 2, but I'm sure TV dictated that they couldn't.

The game was televised out here on prime network time, with Baylor as the backup plan. Fox went all-in on the Frost return game.

This sort of thing is what happens with these conferences tie up these huge TV contracts. Everything (and in this case everyone) is beholden to TV period, and we all saw that last night. The old adage is true...."Follow the Money" because that's where the truth often lies.

My only complaint was that there was no explanation over the PA about how the lightning delay works. I know how it works but I can guarantee there were a lot of people in the stadium last night who didn't and still don't.

Moos does not control Fox but does control the staff who put out the 1030 am kickoff information to Fox. Moos also had the ability to talk to the press during the lightning delay and then after the delay last night in order to explain how and why the game was cancelled and where the confusion was created. It appeared (and appears) that no one was at the wheel.

Ok I get some of that, but what is he supposed to say during a lightning delay? What does a 10:30am press release have to do with a weather event at 7:15pm? It's never happened before, a complete game cancellation.

CEOs of major organizations don’t get to throw up their hands and play the “it was unavoidable” card.

Regardless of circumstances, it happened under Moos’ watch and it appears there were no clear contingency plans in place despite warnings of severe weather for days preceding the game.

While a game hasn’t been cancelled at Nebraska for a long, long time - a game or two does get cancelled each year - I guess the prevailing wisdom was that it couldn’t happen at Nebraska or if it did it wasn’t that big of a deal. Maybe the admin did discuss this event in past years and came to the conclusion that we’ll just cancel.

They rolled the dice thinking they could get the game in and lost. This wasn’t a hurricane where you are out of commission for days. These are thunderstorms that are an issue only for several hours - come up with a way to deal with them

Paying customers have brains...everybody knew that severe weather was going to hit at some point during the game, the hope was it would hit late and be quick...but there was going to be at least a 90 minute delay AT BEST. The worst case scenario happened as the atmosphere capped in the early afternoon, got cloudy, and then storms popped earlier than expected at 5:30, about 3 hours earlier than predictions. I just thought how stupid people are to be at that game...but sometimes you have to be stupid, and I think this was one of those cases. So being stupid was o.k. but being rewarded by the program for being stupid is not o.k....it was bad luck for fans. The team didn't need to play akron, they will be rested, healthy, and have their full playbook ready for colorado who won't have a clue how to prepare. And they will be at home. Sucks for fans, but when you buy the tickets this is always a possibility.

So I read that the pay out to Akron was $1.7M. Any word on if we still have to pay that out? I would expect a significantly smaller payout since no game was played.

I can't imagine not making the full payout. Akron arrived, kicked the ball off and was fully ready to fulfill their commitment. Unless there was something in the contract agreement between Nebraska and Akron I don't believe Nebraska would have any alternative.

The only thing that could have been better would have been to advise fans take shelter earlier while they were assessing the situation...but at the same time, everyone is sitting in a stadium full of metal bleachers in a downpour during a lightning storm, fans should have used common sense and made that decision themselves.

The logistics of coordinating police, concessions, ushers, etc., to reschedule this to Sunday was all but impossible.

I’m being somewhat sarcastic. You shouldn’t have to be told to seek shelter in a thunderstorm warning, especially when there is lightning.

Nobody knows who was or is supposed to be involved in all the decisions to cancel or postpone a game. Refs? FOX? Moos? Frost? Akron AD? Akron HC? Add in all the hype of Frosts first game back and prime time national game, I’m sure they were proposing numerous ideas to have the game. Unfortunately some of those ideas were released before they were confirmed.

Much more complex decision than figuring out what beer to drink while sitting on our couches at home.

They aren’t uncommon by any means. August is generally our wet month and much of that has to do with the slow moving systems that come through late in the season. Spring time is when we get those fast moving systems.

For someone who has portrayed being in charge of the ship, Moos has a disorganized mess on national TV on his record now. He should have gotten out in front of this situation and made sure everyone was kept apprised of what was being discussed. That we are sitting here 14 hours later without any explanations and nothing more than rumor and innuendo of how an announced 1030 am kickoff turned into a cancellation is an embarrassment. I like Moos, but this entire situation was very publically fumbled.

Forget me sitting in my Lazy Boy at home waiting for it to start, the game was cancelled right when the high winds and hail were reaching the stadium area... with plenty of warning it was coming. They let the fans stay out there how long before the university said they had to take shelter?

I'm curious how long information was sat on or how disorganized it actually was. It went from "we're going to keep delaying it" for several hours to "we'll play it in the morning" at about < EDIT > 9:45/10:00, and then about 20 minutes later < /EDIT > "it's cancelled, Akron is heading to the airport."
