I saw the play.... I wasn't sure what in the cylinder was. That's what I got an explanation on. I have never heard the term before or saw anyone ever get called for being in the cylinder. I guess in a game where the other team takes 41 foul shots we're bound to have one be an in the cylinder call. (that was sarcasm)
Without watching it more closely on DVR, the way I see it, the ref called a blocking foul on Rivera. I didn't see any contact there. Then Hines takes one on the nose, a pretty obvious flagrant call. The refs of course, had a dilemma, because of the blocking foul which they couldn't reverse. It was a save the ref's face call and the "in the cylinder call" was basically BS.
