Well, a few potential fatal flaws emerged tonight

1) Hagans...is he good enough at this stage to be the PG for a team that hopes to contend for a title?

2) 3 pt shooting...do we have enough perimeter firepower? We miss so many wide open looks.

3) Depth...got a little from Q but he shot poorly. We needed other guys to step up.

A win against Tenn still puts us in a good position for top overall 2 seed. That’s the good thing...still have an opportunity to avoid Duke as the overall number 1.

This is a big time loss man. We needed to take care of home court here on out. There is no margin for error after losing to bama and sh. We lose Saturday too and we are back to a a 3 seed. No margin for errror bc of those crap teams we lost to

We lose in the sweet 16 if that's how we play.

Lehigh again?

No real flaws that we didn’t already know of. Reid Travis struggles against length. That hurt us esp when PJ has to go to the bench.
Just hope we don’t match up against a team like that in March

But there is some adjustments on the offense that need to be made. Hopefully this loss will open their eyes a bit and they can make up for it Saturday

No question. Just going off raw stats that's a 3 point difference right there. In reality we probably could have made more than just that 3 points. But you win this game if you just make FTs.

hagans was timid his getting called for fouls that didn’t occur might have played a little bit into that though.

the only guy that hits set shots well is pj. probably because he’s been practicing that shot. herro and johnson seem to be better at catch and shoot or off the dribble. when you think about it there’s not a lot of guards these days known for their set shot proficiency. everything’s ofc the dribble these days or catch and shoot.

iq just had a bad game. that happens. he’s a in a few game slump in terms of his more typical impact.

Given our fg defense I would like to see us force the tempo more, even if it means a bad shot here or there. Hagans in the half court is a liability.

Yes. I said in the first half that free throws were going to be a factor because Kentucky was missing too many. Kentucky is a good free throw shooting but tonight they did not show it.

Free throws didn't help but the emerging problem is we cannot b a contender without a confident point guard. For the past 6 games Hagans has regressed back to a scared player who is afraid to pull the trigger from anywhere including 3 feet from basket. Even when he drives you get the feeling he is praying there's somebody to pass to. He only shoots when he is left completely open and he can't hit those because he hates having to do it.

You just cannot be contender good with a timid point guard plain and simple. And tonight we had two of them. This one thing is priority one for Cal to fix because without it we ain't going anywhere

What a shitastic loss. I get more pissed when thinking about. We shouldn’t have been in a position where the whim of a ref even mattered.

I actually think if we win tonight, we may have lost Saturday. I'll take the loss tonight and end the weekend with a win over #1 all day long.
This game reminded me so much of the 1997 game against South Carolina at Rupp; Senior Day and also turned out to be Pitino's last game there as well. In both games we simply couldn't handle their guards and shot poorly. However, that game was a major wake up call. Hoping this turns out the same.

It’s sports. It happens. Move on to the next one. It’s not like we lost to a bad team.

have to MAKE wide open 3's. Damn! Herro missed two, Baker missed one, KJ missed one or two. Travis put up an airball, and Hagans could not hit the broad side of a barn from beyond the arc. They were inviting him to shoot. This is just NOT excusable.

Maybe they peaked too soon.
Hagans struggling.
Herro not hitting.
KJ MIA.

EJ has improved.
Not sure where Nick Richards went. Doghouse maybe?

Just a thought and not an excuse, however, anyone think they may not have taken LSU as seriously as they should since Tennessee is coming to Rupp Saturday? Really did not play well at all tonight.

Herro and Johnson shot fine from 3pt range.... Travis shouldnt be shooting more than 1 a game and we have to get Quickley and Baker to shoot like they are capable.

Lol okay. I mean at this point I have no choice but to hope you’re right but that’s not really how it works.

Or he had 1 off night. Hmmm several great games in a row. 1 night makes him overrated. MJ had a bad game once when he was with the Bulls, he was vastly overrated
It looked to me that our guards were "thinking" way too much before shooting. For whatever reason the shooting was really poor tonight.

Hagans hasn’t been very good for a couple weeks now.

In either case, Saturday is a must win if we want to salvage no less than a 2 seed.
