I absolutely love that all of the pitchers are taking those guys to task so far in spring training. They deserve that ****. They made a mockery of the game.

Love the ump's reaction. No warning for the pitcher... no walking out to stop any confrontation. Just puts his hands up and points Bregman to first.

How about this one? It sucks, because Kershaw’s career is almost defined by moments like this:

Stealing signs? Of course they do
Buzzers in the jersey? No. Thats unprecedented

That you know about. Will Clark even said everybody does it. And he surely didn’t defend Palmeiro. Throwing at somebody’s head is just 17ing stupid.

They also had better road record that year than home record. Not an Astros fan just think this has been going on forever and will continue to go on.

correct, its not illegal to steal signs. its illegal to use computers and buzzers to give you the advantage. nothing wrong with a runner on 2nd picking up the signs. thats baseball. but the other is cowardly bull ****

I like baseball. I hope the end result of this fiasco is not the revelation that every team is sending batters to the plate wearing a wire that tells them when the deuce is coming.

I think I'd be done if that's the case.

They deserve all they get

I wish teams would fail to show up when the Astros come in town. The response from Rob Manfred has been absolutely pathetic. This is embarrassing for baseball.

Point me to the MLB rulebook where it makes computers and buzzers illegal.

The sign is stolen regardless of whether it's the runner on second, a guy in the dugout, or a guy with a camera in the outfield. It matters not how a batter is made aware that a fastball is coming. Bottom line, he knows a fastball is coming.

Sign stealing has been around as long as baseball has been around. The only difference from early days to now is the evolution of how the signs are stolen. Players will use whatever they can to learn as much as they can to get the advantage.

I'd go out on a limb and say that the % of players that have 1)never stolen a sign or 2) never been on a team that has utilized stolen signs, would be minuscule. Yet, suddenly, everyone is against it.

Do I agree with the in depth scheme that the Astros put in place to do what they did? No.
Do I think they should be stripped of the title and players banned? No.

Devil's advocate: everybody does it, they just got caught.

not to that degree they don’t. Everybody goes 5-10 over the speed limit. They did a 110 in a school zone with a car load of hookers and blow. Then they got caught and the smug bastards aren’t sorry for it. That douche Bregman and that little hobbit Altuve deserve every pitch coming.

lol oh will Clark said it so it must be the gospel. Lol You know will Clark didn’t have the best of reputations as a baseball player. He was actually one of the biggest ******** in baseball when he played. I know he’s a hero to a lot of fans but read up about him. Not a likeable guy.

I hate what the Astros did as much as anyone, but if I’m one of Bregman’s pitcher teammates, in the other half of the inning I’m sticking my fastest fastball into the back of every guy who comes up to the plate until I get ejected.

It’s in MLBs rulebook that you cant use mechanical means to steal signs. Electric means is a gray area, but they had some kind of document that MLB put out like 20 years ago saying you can’t use any unauthorized electronic communications in game.

Sign stealing isn’t the issue. It’s the over the top means in which they pulled it off. It’s like playing monopoly but you know what everyone will rolls in advance and where to put all your hotels.

6 or 7 batters in 4 or 5 games i believe. But they aren't even the team with the highest beans per game.

You would be gone after the first batter you hit.

Correct, the mechanical portion is in there. That stems from an incident back in the 50s or 60s. There is no current rule against any electronic usage.
Not advocating that the use of electronics is right, but it is currently not illegal as stated by poster previously.

From a directive from Sandy Alderson in 2000. This is still considered binding today.

Please be reminded that the use of electronic equipment during a game is restricted. No club shall use electronic equipment, including walkie-talkies and cellular telephones, to communicate to or with any on-field personnel, including those, in the dugout, bullpen, field and-during the game-the clubhouse. Such equipment may not be used for the purpose of stealing signs or conveying information designed to give a club an advantage.

The Alderson Directive is an unpublished directive that’s has never been adopted into the MLB Rulebook.
Again, there was no official rule that was broken by the electronic sign stealing. Certain aspects such as the “buzzer” worn that was reportedly used for relaying the signs would be an MLB Rule violation.

The whole thing was immoral on the Astros part, but not all in violation of MLB rules. That is partially why, to this point, punishments have not been greater.

My take is as a runner on second I was going to try and steal the signs and let my batter know. Just like watching the 3b coach to see it you can steal those signs as well. That’s part of it. But to have cameras seeing the catchers signals and using buzzers or code words or sounds or whatever is the worst cheating ever. We had this discussion the other night and talked about the steroid era of Canseco and McGuire and the likes.

we all agreed this is worse cheating the steroids. Yes you gain a physical advantage with strength and all but you still have to have the hand eye coordination and the stroke and all. At 55 years old I could go out there right now and hit .350 if you told me the pitch that was coming to me! They should strip the Astros of the title.
