Brohm is exciting. His team is about to beat the number 4 team in the country.
And yet he looked a lot less good when Purdue lost to Rutgers last year. I do like Brohm as a fit there, but it hasn't been a straight arrow up for him either. This guy was close to on the hot seat entering this year. Great win Saturday, but they hadn't done a whole lot since a hot start by Brohm at Purdue 5 years ago.

It has become plainly obvious this year that Rutgers has nowhere near the top end talent or depth to compete yet. That is really only fixed through recruiting. The recruiting at Rutgers is objectively on the upswing. The team will be too once those guys are on the field and have some experience.

Agreed, it hasn't been. But one thing is a constant with him and it's you know he's going to have an offense. Or try to. That's modern football.

We went from modern football last year to playing in a phone booth this year. It makes no sense considering we have the same exact team and staff.

I just can't believe that anyone who's seen a football game would say that "good RBs don't need holes." Even Gale Sayers and Walter Payton needed holes. You are so determined to blast Schiano and Glesson that you say things like this that don't make any sense.

they don’t. They’re certainly better with holes..everyone is. But good runningbacks create yards themselves

The only back who didn't need holes was Barry Sanders. So we don't have any future Pro Football HOF RBs on the roster. Along with probably all but two D1 NCAA teams.

Try to keep up, sport. It was posted after they won. Doesn't change the fact that Brohm has always been a dick and Purdue has sucked for a long time. Maybe they are turning the corner. But will be sure to ping you back when they slip up.

You seem to get your jollies crapping all over Rutgers after a bad loss. You don't even know the status of many of the players as shown by your second post below.

The good news is we can't possibly score any less

Outside of 2005-2008, when has Rutgers ever used their talent well?

If you put LSU's wide receivers on this team, they would still suck, or they'd be running 3 yards downfield on 3rd and 6. Youngblood was involved in KSU's offense and returned punts, but he can't get on the field here? On a team that scores 3 points a game? It's not just Vedral... even when he has time the whole game plan is trash.

is Shameen Jones still on the team? Washington? Has anyone besides Bo caught a pass in 3 weeks?

They create yards by being good after contact, and that's a vital skill for a running back. Otherwise anyone with speed could be a running back. But I've never seen a running back get past the line of scrimmage without someone throwing a block.

Rutgers loses a bad one and the great B1G HCs are pointed out
From this 2021 preseaon assessment to some TKR posters COY candidate:
CBS Sports reveals updated hot-seat coaches for 2021
“Jeff Brohm and the Boilermakers were on top of the world in 2018 after upsetting the Buckeyes in front of a national TV audience at home, but that was the height of his tenure. Injuries have piled up since and thus far, Purdue's seven-year, extensive investment into Brohm isn't seeing much of a return. Brohm carried the Boilermakers to bowl appearances each of his first two seasons before the wheels came off. Purdue is 6-12 since the start of the 2019 season and hasn't finished higher than fifth in the Big Ten's West Division.”

So you wait til Purdue beats another top 5 team to post that they suck, that makes a lot of sense. I don't get any jollies from this team, and by the look of the stadium, not many people do either. If the team is gonna suck, at least try something new. There is no enjoyment watching them.

The post was part of a conversation about Purdue, which historically has sucked, and they still suck until they can sustain at not sucking. This board never ceases to amaze with posters like you who look glowingly at a single win or two of another team (who we beat twice, including one by Ash!) while crapping all over our team, which anyone with a pulse and a brain recognizes is in the midst of a huge rebuild.

What new do you suggest trying with the current state of the OL and the DL (with injuries and players not playing)?

Not sure how anyone can disagree with what I said.

I’m 90% convinced that most of these negative and moronic posts are from Syracuse fans in disguise.

It has too be… There ia no way we have so many fans that are clueless and pathetic with these posts. They must be Syracuse fans that are bored to hell with their ****** board and basically causing turmoil to stir the pot over here ro ruin this board and also attempt to get GS fired any way possible due to him basically destroying their program.

There is just no other take that makes logical sense for some of these posts. If I am wrong we need to recruit some 4 star and 5 star fans and cut these 2 star gems… Holy ****…

People saying our oline stinks..which 100% means our running game must stink,

you do realize Pacheco averaged 6+ yards a carry on Saturday?

cause he’s a GOOD running back.

That is sad that you watch and are clueless.

stop taking personal, childish shots at me and have a conversation about football or quit posting…

Pacheco averaged 6 yards a carry on Saturday and our line SUCKED.

So explain this please cause 6 yards a carry is very good.

Ha. So your focusing on one meaningless stat. Again did you watch the game??
You should quit posting about football as you completely have no clue

rushing yards per carry is a meaningless stat to a RB? Huh?

so what stat would you look at for an RB to determine if they were “good” or not?

Yeah, dude, rushing ypc for a single game, which we lost by 49 points, is absolutely a meaningless stat for this conversation.

you'd be surprised about how many of your 5* there are and had hope during the darkest days.
Rejoiced when RU turned respectable, suffered watching it go down and now have the type of hope that they did their first day as a RU Fan/
Even the doom and gloomers can't turn them from hoping for wins when the wins look like they will be tough to get.

Now bandwagon fans are a different story, cheer when its good, leave when hard times comes knocking, but throw out complaints before they go into hiding

I just disagree. It’s evidence that yes, a RB can be good with a bad line. If someone doesn’t thing 6+ ypc is good, I don’t know what to say

“For now”😂. Sure pal.

Purdue list to Chris Ash. Let me repeat…Purdue lost to Chris Ash.

Enough said.
You guys think Chris ash was worse than Darrell hazell.. or that Scriano is the first coach to have a multi year rebuild in front of him. Brohm lost to Chris ash with a roster recruited by a guy who won 4 big the games, 3 of which came against Illinois.

tell the truth.. you know what would happen if we played now lol .. can a telecast be entertaining if all you hear for three hours is either “karlaftis” or “bell again!”

Honestly I don’t. What if we theoretically swapped schedules and Purdue played @Michigan, vs Ohio State and vs Michigan State in three consecutive weeks? You think you’re beating MSU at the tail end of that 3-game stretch? Maybe. But then again maybe not.

I don’t want to take anything away from Purdue’s two upset wins this year, good for you guys. I wish RU had those kind of wins. But they don’t change the fact that Purdue is 0-2 vs Rutgers. That’s the truth and they can’t do anything about it until 2024. at which point, but the way, our roster will look a LOT different than it does now.

On every level Zap. Everything from the equipment guys on up.

I was told from someone who would know that we had no idea what we were in for in this league.

You can’t really point to one area and say we are close to our now peers.
Punting is the lone area where Rutgers excels.

irrelevant to my argument. Good RBs can find ways to get yards with bad OLines not making holes.
you are correct... there are often holes.. the good RBs find em.. the great RBs get big yards off them making the first guy miss. Running Pacheco far outside doesn't help him find a hole and the OL has little to do with any TFLs on those wide runs. Playcalling and threat level of the passing game helps make holes too.

And holes are often made by the defenses themselves.. and great QBs can make presnap reads and audibles seeing where the called play will not have a hole because there are more defenders there that can be blocked.

The QB and OC know what plays were called and what the defenses did.. we fans cannot score what happened on most plays because we don't know the playbook nor that play called. What we can see is teams are run-blitzing us making it much harder for the OL to create holes and we can see that we are doing nothing to punish them for this practice.

agree with all this, as well
