I had a similar conversation in 2012-13 with someone way up there at RU after a meeting with B1G folks.

So it is good to see all the progress overall in Athletics.

Hopefully Football figures it too someday.
Agreed on the O sports. Funny what happens when you fund them at least close to properly. Truth be told we still aren’t there though. Football is a different beast entirely.

no they are on the quarterback/wrs
Hate to sound like making excuses, but Rutgers let 21-28 points swing with the two crappy INTs, the fumbled kickoff by Cruickshank, and a dropped pass by Melton.
As a coach, it's on Greg to put in better players that don't make mistakes. As we have seen however, these appear to be our best players for kickoff/punt returns, WR and QB. You do see that leave Greg and Sean little to work with, especially considering the patchwork OL. I doubt Mike Leach or Mike Gundy could do much with this OL, QB and WRs we have when the starters underperform. Keep in mind that Cruickshank was out as WR and Sanders was out today. We still have barely serviceable TEs. What can you expect from this team when playing the best defensive team in the B1G? You keep beating the "it's on the coaches," but with a poor OL, skill players making mistakes and Wisconsin's defense . . . .

Take a breath junior. I said Schiano is average and we deserve much better at Rutgers. If you want to get rid of fans because they don't simply rely on having blind faith in a Jersey guy with a bad resume, we'll have no caring, intelligent fans left.
We deserve better?

30K empty seats at kickoff would disagree.

I’d agree with this if we were 0-9. But we are two games from a bowl. We beat Illiniois and gave Syracuse. Gave Michigan who has 100000 times like the. We show we CAN hang around vs good teams.

so was josh Rosen. So was Chad henne. So was RG3. All true freshman asked to do too much too soon and succeeded cause there were good.

this loser mentality from our fans sucks.
Agree with you there. Art had an ample chance this year at Illinois behind a better OL and years of experience. He is a really nice kid and a great team mate. The fact of the matter is Noah is a better overall QB than Art for the offense Sean wants to run.

18 big ten losses in a row brah. I mean it's not difficult to understand why fans don't show up. It's tough to cheer for a team when you take the L every single time for nearly half a decade. You dig?

Jeff Brohm:
2019 (Year 3): 4-8/3-6--Losses to Nevada, terrible TCU, Illinois
2020 (Year 4) 2-4/2-4--lost to Rutgers, Minnesota and Nebraska

Let's celebrate this worldbeater over Greg Schiano because he is finally having a winning regular season after five years of trying.

Oh, I have no doubt you've got excuses. It's Rutgers's most popular major.

People are going to believe whatever they want to believe here, but Brohm inherited one of the worst P5 programs from Hazell and there was limited talent on the roster.

In 2017, we stayed relatively injury-free and Brohm's coaching took a handful of good upper classmen to a bowl game.

In 2018, it was about the same story except we lost our bowl game to an Auburn team that was made up of like 4 top-10 recruiting classes while our 4 recruiting classes that made up that team were around the 50's.

In 2019, injuries mounted and what depth we had was young and inexperienced. It was the price we pay for allowing the program to deteriorate to the point it did under the previous coach.

2020 was a mistake but it was Coach Brohm hiring a horrible defensive coordinator in Bob Diaco. He owned up to that and rectified that mistake by getting rid of him shortly after last season ended. The new staff has immediately turned around our defense. It's like night and day.

I think the lesson here was that improvement isn't always on a straight-line (more like 3 steps forward and then 2 steps back in our case) and when you're a mid-tier program like Purdue or Rutgers you have to hire a good coach and give him time to get his program up-and-running. You guys have a coach that knows what he's doing and has done it before.

Agree that wimsatt most likely has more potential but what can he do behind this line? We just don’t know and is it worth it to play him to burn a redshirt at this stage? Today would have been a waste.

you need two more wins for a bowl game..do you unleash him for Indiana and go for it while still preserving the red shirt? Vedral is not the answer.
you guys keep blaming the OL but no OL provides perfect protection. our QB makes the OL WORSE because no one fears his throwing.. they tee off every down and he just never makes reads quickly enough with enough zip on the ball to matter. saw a little piece on ESPN college gameday on Bama QB.. they highlighted his quick decision-making and delivery.. UNDER 3 seconds.. yeah.. he has more and better playmakers all over the field... but that UNDER 3-seconds thing makes his OL look great too...

So you’re saying you came into this week expecting a blowout? Be honest.
Personally, I said I could see a repeat of the 2014 game where we lost at home 38-0. Remember that was the year we went 8-5 and beat Michigan. Wisconsin won the west that year and got thrashed by the eventual NC Buckeyes in the B1G champ game. And our team that lost 38-0 had “talent” just not across the OL and DL UNITS.

Wisconsin is too physical and fundamentally sound on both lines for us. Seven years later nothing has changed. Until it does (our lines get built to B1G level) we will see games like this. They aren’t flashy like Purdue, but they are no less impressive. Losses to Notre Dame, Michigan and Penn State are nothing to be embarrassed about. They will play OSU in the B1G game again.

This is the day and thread when all the half-*** fans and secret haters of the current coach start wailing and gnashing their teeth. It's really year 1 in a tremendous rebuild. Let us not forget, this coach was left with a patchwork OL, patched together with former DL. Take out one of our more active DL (Tverdov), and recipe for disaster. But Brohm is a better coach because in his 5th year he is doing sort of a decent job. 🎃
I’m not sure any of you guys know what you’re talking about.

He took over for Darrell hazell and you’re talking about your coaches rebuild lmao? He went 7-6 his first season. His whole defensive line graduated. Guess what? There were no linemen to replace them. Hazell hadn’t recruited that next wave because by then, division one players didn’t want to play for Darrell hazell. He went to a bowl game again because of rondale moore though. Then, his offensive line graduated and guess what? No offensive line was there to replace them. No one was there to replace them.

He kept grinding, brought in bell, karlaftis and numerous other players you don’t have. Then he made a big mistake in hiring Diaco. In one year he got rid of him and brought in three great defensive coaches .. he has a hole in the team.. the offensive line. A huge number of offensive linemen had to retire for medical reasons so his OL is a mash unit of youngsters and meh transfers. Or we might be undefeated.

But our future is here now.. so this mentality of some of your fans like schiano is better or does Purdue really have much? We have a good coach and I can count 31 good players who have been in games this year who will be back next year. We have two positions next year where the answer isn’t apparent as to who will start… with multiple options at each position. The game in 2024 should be what the last two should have been. Rutgers, Maryland and Nebraska will never do anything in this league

Brohm is a hothead and 5th year head coach who may finally be getting it together. Will take Schiano every time over Brohm.
..
he is a much better offense coach than schiano is a defensive coach....im sure the Ohio State fans will agree with that....he is 25 and 28 at Purdue.. lets see what Greg's record is in years 4 and 5...

I read all big ten boards.. I guess that includes you for now 🙄

I guess if RU had an 0-fer record v the new guy that's been otherwise beyond terrible, I might be butthurt enough to troll their board, too 😆😆

On second thought, nah, I have a life.

Keep s4it talking about a game three years from now, tho, bro.🤣

The more you compare our coaching and leadership to other B1G teams, the more you see how antiquated our thought leadership is at Rutgers. That said, if we made better hirings and had a plan to bring in intellectuals and savvy forward thinking coaches & leaders, we could change the culture.. Schiano is not the answer. He is simply an average coach.
Schiano is the only one who could stop the bleeding. We're able to win few now.

Hopefully next year we can end the 1-2 beat downs a year and settle in at .500. Then we can talk coaching.

Didn’t we play Purdue last year, can’t seem to remember the score, but we must have lost to Brohm’s team since he is a great coach clearly far better than poor Greg.

Bad resume?
Hahah yeah a head coach in the NFL, the only head coach in the modern era that has been able to actually win at Rutgers, the defensive coordinator while at national championship winner Ohio State, an asst coach for the Chicago Bears, and def coordinator for #3 ranked Miami while he was there…..

And he turned down def. coordinator for New England Patriots right before taking Rutgers job. That’s a poor resume?

I mean, if you want to invite people to mock you for being uninformed… go for it Sam!!!

I think Brohm is generally a good offensive coach. Never thought of him as that underrated either in that department. Did think his contract extension when Louisville was a threat was a little high but with crazy coaching salary inflation not sure 5M is as bad or as inflated as it was just 2 years ago. He's hovering around .500 or so overall and in conference in 3 of his 5 years. I think that's okay for a school like Purdue. Could be 7-9 wins this year including a bowl. Solid job as HC but nothing super duper either but they have enjoyed a few very nice upsets in his tenure. The couple this year and that OSU one from a little while ago.

For someone so utterly pissed off that Rutgers is in the same conference as you, it must really chap your *** that we’ve done so well against you in multiple sports.
