I personally think how this was handled was wrong. Since AS wants to retain his redshirt and he went to NC and told him, NC could have just said we are starting JL. Lots of drama would have been avoided. If I recall starting QB at I think at major school in Texas out n out said after his 4th game I am entering the Portal and he was their starter
In my opinion once season starts no one should be allowed to enter portal until season is over. By allowing kids to enter mid season it’s the same as allowing them to transfer out. As harsh as it may seem I agree with poster who said pull schollie.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...-D-Eriq-King-up-in-air-on-future-14461767.php

And this how #fakenews gets spread.

Houston starting QB King announced he was taking a redshirt after their 4th game and released a statement he was STAYING.
Everyone immediately flipped out and just assumed he was transferring and starting calling him a quitter.
Houston started out 1-3. Makes sense for King to sit and then try to make a run next year.

Until Sitkowski says he is leaving - this is a great development.

Everyone wanted Sit to redshirt anyway.
Said “he needs to sit and learn from the bench.”
Not sure why everyone is complaining now.

Ideally Carter comes back, Langnan only plays in 4 games, Snyder gets action in 4 games.
All 3 of Sit/Snyder/Langnan get a redshirt year.

Was anyone at practice earlier this week? Maybe NC did tweak the offense and Langan was getting more run with the first team? Either way, you either play or you walk. This “give him time to process” stuff is a no go for me.

Based on NC’s comments that Carter is “still with the program” and “won’t be playing anytime soon” in addition to not being at practice the past 2 weeks makes me think that RU fans may have seen the last of him.

We are down to Langan and Snyder at QB. Tough spot for RU at this point of the season.
Have high hopes for Cole Snyder. He flashed a little during the Spring game. But he needs to be ready. Wonder if we will see Pacheco in the Wild Knight.

I was shocked that he played the entire game at Michigan. He was getting pummeled in that game (and many others).

Which kind of speaks to the real issue doesn't it?!? That being no protection for the QBs....... awful production from the OL. Until this gets fixed we continue to suck.

no offense to Sit but I hope we transition to an O that is so far from his skill set he has to transfer.
That kid is not staying at Houston, no chance. Don't care how many press releases he puts out.

Why wouldn't he stay at Houston?
Will he come to Rutgers as revenge. After all, they flipped our QB recruit Sofian Massoud, who is tearing it up in Texas his senior year.

last year he threw for 3000 yards, rushed for 700, and had 50 TD's. He's going to be the top transfer QB out there. I could see him being Oklahoma's next transfer QB

Are we to believe that if Ash and company were still here, he would be playing?
Is the perception of this team that winning is not important?
There is still 67% of the season left!!!
I really hope Langan lights it up and our "redshirt" finds himself another place to place his butt.
It's not complicated or mysterious. The kid's had enough. Enough failure. Enough shutouts. Enough getting the crap kicked out of him. Enough instability and changing OC's. . He has withdrawn voluntarily, in the hope/expectation that he can get this season red-shirted so that he can transfer out of this feces flood with 3 seasons intact. Is quitting on the team a disappointment? Of course, a big one. Demoralizing for an already demoralized team. But that's the reality of it.

Langan does know many of the plays Nunzio might want to run ... his tape looks pretty good. Who knows, maybe an element of a running QB is a good thing. Like Jones running for a TD late vs Tampa. Eli would’ve had an incomplete pass. All I know is I hate when a QB pulls down the ball and runs fora first down. Nice to see a few BY RU for a change.

Was not implying anyone was leaving. Think coaches should be ones telling who plays or doesn’t. Kid telling coach hey I don’t want to play sends a bad message. I was taught in sports you play your hardest and try your best EVERY GAME regardless of outcome. Think it’s wrong for kids to bail mid season

I hope that the rest of the team plays hard and stays focused. Because when your starting QB quits mid season on his teammates there will be an impact in the locker room. Campy has walked into a tough situation as a HC.

Hope our players stay strong and rise above this. Cause if they go thru the motions starting tomorrow it’s going to be even more ugly than what we’ve witnessed so far.

Why does it always get worse and never better for RU fans?

With that logic the whole team shouldnt play.
I understand your frustration but we live in a new time now. Players will review their options every year now, the same as the coaches. If a player enrolls in Jan of his senior year and redshirts his first year he could potentially be a junior academically and have freshman eligibility when he sees the field. More and more players will attempt to graduate then transfer so they won’t have to sit a year.

So basically he quit.

So take away his keys to the locker room and send him a bill for tuition.

Because we needed to make a coaching change. Whenever that happens your lose recruits and have transfers. It will be worse going forward because of the transfer portal. Need to think long tern and hope we get the hire right. Both "top" names have benefits. If it's Schiano it should happen quickly and he can start recruiting and building his brand. If it's Moorhead he will probably sway some of his recruits from Miss state plus some transfers from both Miss St and PSU

Certainly the parents of the Walkons would benefit from that.

This is looking like a total roster rebuild to me. Our facilities have improved to be competitive but the next HC is getting all Ash players. If we see significant improvement in Year 3 going forward then we are on the right track.

If Art is RS’ing, doesn’t he still have a game or two before he loses it?
And then I like what someone else mentioned. Let the othe QBs get into 4 or less games and keep their RS’s...
This season is toast anyway.

As to Art- I’m with cuffbuff- kind of a BS move on his part. Lots of players have done for the good of the team. My son also had to move all over the OL game to game, in games etc in 07 and half of 08 before he was just set into his role at RT. All of those moves didn’t benefit him but did benefit the team. And knowing Carters injury and how short handed we are- BS move on Arts part

I am fairly certain we can score zero points without Sit as QB.
Does he really think another P5 team will give him a chance at QB?

This could be his last shot as a D1 QB coming against a defense (maryland) that is suspect.

My opinion is just that. You can disagree but I'm more in tune with the bullsh*t the some of these kids are pulling than someone like you. For the last several years the kids at Rutgers have been playing for self and it reflects in how they respond to changing events around them. When things aren't right they quit on each other. Art was fine with burning his redshirt as long as Ash and McNulty were here. As soon as the they are no longer around, suddenly Art thinks redshirting is his best option. I don't disagree, but it's really a lie to demand it now. Also, several other players are suddenly interested in redshirting. Now these sudden selfish decisions have an impact on teammates who were depending on you. These moves should have been made at the beginning of the season so the team could plan around them. No you are putting other teammates in a position to fail or get injured because they may not be ready, players like Snyder or the other walk-on QB.

I understand the importance of team commitment. My senior year at Rutgers we have several injuries at OLB. Instead of burning the redshirts of some young players, I moved from safety to OLB for a few games until guys returned. I didn't have to move, but I saw the big picture. It wasn't about the coaches. It was about my teammates. I knew what I was getting into when I agreed to that scholarship.

Very well-stated. But times have changed, and young people are different. You don't just see it on football teams. You see it in the workplace every day.

THAT DOESN'T"T MAKE IT RIGHT OR OK IMO.

Someone else may have raised this point, but perhaps Nunzio is looking for the QB to do more running than McNulty did, and maybe this factored into Art's decision.

THIS would be the only thing that makes sense...so just say that then (not you, them)

Hey Sit..go talk to Tom Savage about his decisions and how he felt afterwards...just saying.

It's scary to think that the worst of RU football, in terms of on-field performance, is probably still to come over the next 1-2 (maybe 3) years.

Really need to make a good hire here but still...lots of short term pain ahead.

It is amazing to me that so many people on this board are privy to private conversations between a coach and a player. Did Nunzio say anything to Art which made him feel that he might not be Number 1 quarterback at the end of the season? Art’s decision was not made in a vacuum.

I’m guessing that Art was considering the redshirt even if Ash and McNulty were retained.

I like the kid for what he’s done for RU FB but hope the next HC doesn’t have Art in his future plans.

Art will be better off somewhere other than RU imo.

Yea, I wonder why too. Could it be the constant droning and outright nastiness on this board about the entire coaching staff and the certain players. All you have to do is look into a mirror my friend.

I agree. He's quitting on his teammates, particularly seniors, new coach, fellow students, alums, fans. Good riddance. Just go straight to the portal. I want a dual threat QB and if Nunz is the OC next year, so will he.
If Sit feels Nunz wants a dual threat QB next year and he doesn't have the coach's full support, Artur might feel it might be best to use the transfer rules available to him now and not lose a year of eligibility playing for a interim HC that he doesn't fit the system that interim HC wants to play till a new HC is hired.

Using what the rules gives him also let Sit offer to play if really needed.
Maybe he didn't quit on the team, but talked to the staff and found a way to support his teammates while keeping his options for the future open.

He might not feel Dana's offense is helping his pro chances .
Remember this is Holgorsen's first year at Houston and D'Eriq might not be as happy with him as he was with Herman and Applewhite.

King basically is saying this season is lost, so why play and ruin my NFL 1st round chances.
That , if I'm right speculating that, doesn't bode well for the idea King plans to come back.
But lessens the pressure on Dana by saying he plans to play as a Cougar next year.

If D'Eriq graduates before next season, being a grad transfer makes him moving on the most likely choice , unless Holgorsen turns Houston around from how its playing now (2-3).

Yes , another What If that would be an important consideration if so. And a factor that would make me reverse my disdane position on Sit.

But a player saying I don't want to play in his 4th game before the other guy announced as starter ? Nunzio was really going to announce a new starter on Friday?

Boy Rutgers athletics never disappoints for drama.
