I have to disagree. The Big Ten played out very similarly to the rankings. I would surmise that Purdue was truly the only top 10 team in the conference, and they are one of 12 teams left.

Michigan and either Illinois/Iowa swapped spots. The conference had 7 of the top 32 teams and 2 of the top 16 which seemed accurate.
Ok have no idea where your coming up with your logic but hey as long as you believe it I guess it's ok. 9 teams in 7 out by 2nd round one out 3rd round so far

agree, they are an elite program. I was curious and found that in the last 15 years they been in the top 10 in 12 of those seasons at some point. In the prior 30 seasons, only 5 times.

Amazing, they went from good regional program to national power. To think, we almost had Jay Wright…
There was an interesting article on ESPN a few years ago where Wright tallked about how he changed his recruiting philosophy from chasing stars to getting program guys who stayed around for 3 or 4 years and built continuity.

The fallacy of this argument is that it assumes that all bids have equivalent likelihoods of success. But that's not true.

And even if it were, by your math the league still underperformed by almost 50% (7/32 = 3.5/16).

Bottom line IMO anyway is that if you have to start resorting to math explanations, rather than championships, you've already lost the debate.

I get that you think the B1G is overrated but your entire argument rests solely on Championships. And, yes, they’re important but let’s be real. Since Louisville left the only team that has done anything in the Big East is Nova. In fact, over the last 10 years the B1G has had 7 teams in the Final Four, with is basically 20% of the slots (7/32). Yeah, I get it math, but pull Nova out of the Big East and now tell me what they’ve done.

It’s not just championships. It’s an overwhelming majority of your disproportionate number of bids crashing and burning annually.

TBH I’m not sure what your countedfactual statement proves. The reality is the Big Ten hasn’t even had a poor- man’s Villanova to prop it up over the same period.

And if you took UCLA out of the PAC-8 that conference would have done nothing in the 60s and 70s either.

The old saw about my aunt and balls comes to mind ….

Are you saying that if Purdue wins the whole thing you won’t even mention or consider it in evaluating the conference because championships don’t matter?

You’re creating a straw man. I didn’t say championships don’t matter. So, I’ll return to my question: what has the Big East done over the last 10 years outside of Nova’s 2 trips to the Final Four? I can tell you — nothing. And, if the Big East is not your bench mark, which conference is it?

Um, in the last ten Final Fours the Big East has had three different teams qualifying (various number of times), with three different champions.
Take out Louisville, and you still have UCONN and Villanova

The B10 over the same period has had four different teams qualify (various number of times) with zero championships.

Both leagues have changed composition over that period, but BE still outperformed B10 by that measure even accounting for teams that are no longer in the league.

Wrong.

Not in 2011, 10 final fours ago. UCONN was most definitely a member of the Big East when they knocked off Butler in the final.

You are thinking of 2014, which is not included in the conference info I recited above.

Haha not so much.
