Personally, I believe some coaches choose to not share stats because of what it does to the chemistry of the team. Basketball is very much a team game and many times the scoring success of an individual has little to do with the player and more to do with the support surrounding that player.
Example would be a team that has a strong rebounding presence and pushes the ball extremely hard. This team may actually send a defensive shooting guard the other direction when a shot goes up. This leads to a lot of 3/4 court outlet passes to a sandbagging player and consequently an unusually high number of points scored by this individual. The team is making it happen and the individual is getting the recognition for it. This is bad for chemistry.
If I were a coach, I would share team statistics only. Let the opposition fill in the gaps.
College scouts don't find players in the stat line. They find players during summer tournaments, AAU, Camps, etc..
