Anyone know if there are game by game stats available in varsity basketball games anywhere on the internet?

The OWH used to publish points by player for a lot of Class A games (and I believe other classes). They no longer do this, unless I'm missing something.

Thanks!

OWH tracks Class A and B stats I believe.

Maxpreps would be the only other place that I know of

I do not understand why some coaches still don’t update the stats for football and basketball, just seems silly to me.
They don’t report stats in detail because if they do it makes it easier to Scout their teams...

If a coach is doing there scouting off a stat sheet and not game film I doubt the team will be worth a darn.
Stats help. Shooting percentages, etc... and sometimes film isn’t the easiest to get more than one game.

Wow, you all asked for a reason, and I gave you one, that is real, and you want to argue.
Stats help to Scout, it’s a fact!
I NEVER said they don’t use film.
I know but I think you said film was not always easy to get but it is very very easy to get every game, I see this in football but I also see the top teams put in stats, so not putting them in doesn't seem to help at all in football, so I am only lead to believe its just laziness.

My old coach actually said this to me once when the NSAA tried to start the mandatory MaxPreps deal a few years back. He said there are certain stats like free throw percentages, three-point percentages, etc. that coaches just don't like to put out there, because it's hard to get your hands on that info unless you go through and scout all the games yourself and put the time in.

He's right in a sense, as I remember back in the day you would have no idea oftentimes how good a player was at shooting free throws, etc. and what their season numbers were unless they were on the OWH leader board. That would maybe be one or two guys tops on your team that would make that.

The only thing it would really be helpful for is knowing who to foul and maybe how to defend a guy on the perimeter. If you know a guy hasn't shot a three-pointer all year, and you have that data, you can sag off him and defend the dribble knowing he's not going to take a shot.

But just as a counter point, does football have an analogous comparison to 3-point shooting percentage or Free Throw percentage? Is there a stat you can see in football that would lead you to tell your team to not defend this kid in a certain situation (like you would tell them to slough off of a poor 3-point shooter) or that you will attack in certain situations (like you would a poor free throw shooter when it's a fouling situation)? There are no football stats, that are entered into Maxpreps,

I have put stats in for football in the past, and I would probably do so if I coached basketball too, but I can kind of understand it for basketball due to the information that the stats can give you.

I can understand some stats in BB but mainly just percentage, you could easily make some team pay for trusting that stat on maxprpes as well

For many teams using HUDL and HUDL assist to do stats it syncs with MaxPreps if you have the button clicked. I would never want another coach to see all the stats that gets put on MaxPreps. Points, rebounds, steals etc are fine and I think most coaches send those in to papers and etc. MaxPreps when linked with HUDL put way too much information out there. We have used it a lot in scouting and it helps in how to defend teams. Not sure why anyone would put all that information out there. For example, we scouted a game where a kid hit some 3s and had down that we really needed to defend his 3s. Turns out he was shooting 14% from deep and we didnt even cover him in the game. We would never have known that if not for the stats posted. It makes scouting much easier and cuts down the time if all that is posted.

Personally, I believe some coaches choose to not share stats because of what it does to the chemistry of the team. Basketball is very much a team game and many times the scoring success of an individual has little to do with the player and more to do with the support surrounding that player.

Example would be a team that has a strong rebounding presence and pushes the ball extremely hard. This team may actually send a defensive shooting guard the other direction when a shot goes up. This leads to a lot of 3/4 court outlet passes to a sandbagging player and consequently an unusually high number of points scored by this individual. The team is making it happen and the individual is getting the recognition for it. This is bad for chemistry.

If I were a coach, I would share team statistics only. Let the opposition fill in the gaps.

College scouts don't find players in the stat line. They find players during summer tournaments, AAU, Camps, etc..

I agree with some stats for sure like shooting percentage but the team thing is very millennial thinking as far as making everyone FEEL good

Actually, I believe that focusing on the TEAM aspect of the game is where the lessons of the game are at. Athletes that buy into the team philosophy have every right to FEEL good.

HS basketball coaches are run ragged during the season. Long days, late nights, lots to think about. I don't blame them if they don't feel like reporting stats to MaxPreps, etc. Or maybe they're just lazy like me!
