VANDERBILT (15-13, 8-7 SEC)

RPI: 47

KenPom: 51

Strength of schedule: 3

Tucker says: Florida is the only hotter SEC team over the last 10 games. Even with a shocking 20-point loss at Missouri, the Commodores have won 7 of 10, including victories over the Gators, Gamecocks and Razorbacks – plus Iowa State in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge. That’s four RPI top-50 wins (and seven top-100 wins) in a month. Had Vanderbilt not started 8-10 under new coach Bryce Drew, there would be no doubt about an invitation to the dance. As it stands, stealing a win at Kentucky on Feb. 28 or at home against Florida on March 4 might be enough for the committee to overlook that first half of the season.

We were getting ready to play Vandy in that Hell Hole in Nashville..in 1970 and Coach Rupp said.."Some of you boys will play professionally and the boys from Vandy will be your Doctor"..True Story..it has not changed in all the year since..

That's great.

...and a 15-loss team has never made the NCAA Tournament as an at-large, so it's hard to even say they are on the bubble.

For instance, does Vandy have a better resume than 15-13 Pittsburgh? A team nobody is considering on the bubble?

Pittsburgh has wins over Marquette, Maryland, Virginia, Syracuse and Florida State.

Thoughts?

Yes, Vandy has a better resume than Pitt (check all the metrics).

As for a 15 loss team not making the dance, how long has the tournament been 68 teams?

Weak argument.

Drew has underachieved with that team. They could have been so much more. I would be willing to bet Stallings would have won more games with this team.

Vandy is on the bubble now at like what 14-11, what are they clemson now?
Stupid post. If you play a good schedule and have 11-12 losses right now you are absolutely on the bubble as the bubble is super soft this year. Not saying at this moment vandy should be ( or Clemson) but if Vandy were to win the next 3 and win 3 in the SECT they would get in. AS it is that won't happen as I think UK wins there last 2 homes by an average of around 15 ( though UF will be around 10 and Vandy will be around 20 ) and vandy ain't winning here on senior night with our 3 seniors.

Yep Vandy should of been much better then they were as Fisher Davis is a lock NBA player and Cornett might play pro as well and then there is that butt ugly Lachance who is streaky but good when hot.

Vandy needs to beat both Kentucky and Florida to finish with 14 losses for an at large. Lose 1 of them now your at 15 losses. Lose both your at 16 losses.

Good luck to you.

You accidentally hit on something which is that Stallings recruited all of these guys, so I agree that he might have done a little better with this group. That said, Drew is a talented coach and when he gets his guys, I think he is going to have a very high ceiling.

Bryce Drew got off to a rough start but has been really good over the last 10 or so games.

Just want to make sure you get notified. Weirdly enough, you only seem to come around BEFORE the games..
Thanks for the notice. Didn't know you cared? I talk up the games it's true. Can't seem to get into the CLOD threads cause they sicken me.

but at this moment both of them are in the same boat with a really bad record

Did they play Arkansas twice too?

Play them to end the year. Only once. But that's also a road game in Fayetteville, and given Anderson's history, is a much different level game than when they come to your place.

UGA also only plays Missouri, LSU and Mississippi State once. They really got the short end of the SEC schedule stick.

The SEC West had 4 teams that got to play both Missouri and LSU! The East definitely got shafted on scheduling this year.

I'd argue UF had the hardest conference schedule, though most of the east teams are right there. If you add up the KenPom of all the teams we play twice, Vandy has the lowest(hardest) number. But UF can't play UF, so not exactly equal. Their KenPom total was 10 lower than ours (169 vs 179). To put that in perspective, anyone that plays LSU twice starts with a 180....

FYI, Vandy only played Mizz, LSU and MSU once also. I'd be shocked if there were more than 1-2 SEC teams that had a harder schedule than we did. Unfortunately, we pooped down our leg early in the year, but over the past 10 or so games, VU has been a pretty high level team.

Wouldn't shock me at all to lose to MSU but if we beat them, it sets up a very interesting final week.

Looks to me that Vandy and Georgia had the 2 toughest schedules, each having 7 games against the top 4 teams.

It's not about UK at all, they have their own issues that are well discussed on this board. This thread is discussing Vandy. Fact is they are 15-13 and lost to one of the worst power 5 teams by 20. I haven't said anything untrue.

That happened. It's our only bad loss, even though we have (gulp) 13 of them.

We do have some good wins, which is nice, so we got that going for us.

Vandy playing really well all of a sudden. They are definitely making a run at the NCAA tourney.

The game against them is way more interesting that I thought. Better come out ready for a fight. For Vandy the UK game may be their ticket to the tourney.

Maybe. We have at UK and home vs UF. If we go 1-1, I would think we are in the dance prior to the SEC tourney.

Regardless, we have been playing some quality basketball of late.

I don't think the boys have enough in the tank to get to the Dance, but it would be impressive if they did.

I'd rather reward mid major teams who have had great seasons than give out at large bids to mediocre power conference teams with double digit losses.

We understand that you're a liberal, but that's not how it works. The selection committee is charged with picking the best at large teams, whether they be mid-majors, low-majors, or high majors.

A. I'm not a liberal

B. Vandy isn't one of the best at large teams out there.
