I feel like Barney came to uk to put basketball in it’s place according to his perspective. The guy slacked on tubby then hired Bcg. Had to be strong armed into hiring cal then gave him a ridiculous demotivating contract. Now cal is awake and he sees schools are passing us by in facilities. I would venture to say most Uk fans want basketball to continue its rich tradition but it’s pretty clear Barney is a lead weight around the program. It’s been clear to me for a very long time. Barney put his name all over the sports complex. Makes me think the man himself has a complex. As my good friend jojo says “beware of the man who builds monuments to himself”. It’s not everyday you see sports complex named after a sitting AD. Usually they are several years retired or dead.
It’s weird how practice facilities have been the dominating conversation this summer.
That’s just an old basketball arena with graphics around it and the seats covered. That would be like if we put graphics around Memorial, covered the seats and thought it was awesome.
Somebody posted this in another thread. South Carolina's is a big building because it's a shared facility and it's just an old arena repurposed into a couple practice courts and offices. There's nothing state of the art about that South Carolina facility.
It is a practice facility. Rupp is much better than Carolina Life Coliseum where USC plays games
maybe Mitch understands that the rich UK tradition has not been there since 2015 and that the head coach never raised a finger to try to stop the talk about renaming Rupp Arena. The tradition is Coach Rupp and the basketball fans, which is another thing that the present coach has stepped on and laughed at. Get back to winning NCAA games, conference titles, SEC tourney titles and regaining the all time wins lead, then maybe Mitch and the fans would have a different view of things

That's exactly what I thought it looked like when watching the video. An old arena dressed up a bit with seats covered in the stands. We could do something like that in Memorial and make it look awesome!

Cal needs to win and will....get that part but a facility is going to be here long after Cal is gone.
None of those other schools have coaches that make enough $$$ to rebuild the facility every 5-6 years either! Cal’s salary IS the “new practice facility” going into Cal’s bank account.

Yeah you are, you literally bought that South Carolina's practice facility is betters that ours when it's mediocre in comparison. The difference is laughable and that's what you use to claim we need a new faculty.
We spent much more on our practice facility 15 years ago and it has been upgraded numerous times since then including a $4 million locker room just four years. $4 million for just a locker room. Go check the price tag on their converted from an old arena facility.

If you actually look at their (USC) facility it is as nice as JCC.
I've been in JCC multiple times. Locker room was renovated and it is a decent facility. What Cal wants would be state of the art....Mitch could pay for all of that if not for his antiquated way of doing things.

Personally, this video is the perfect example of what up to date lighting and graphics do to a facility. People are wow’d by USC, not because of the functionality or state of the art facility….they are wow’d by graphics and lighting.
To me that video is an argument for at least sprucing the damn thing up a bit. I didn’t see any earth shattering tech in there or anything. But yeah, JCC at less needs a face lift.

Well if you actually look at tour of facility it really is as nice as JCC. That is neither here nor there, my support for the facility is about future of program, not Cal. Not that you insinuated anything at all.
I think you are correct though, can certainly make a difference when viewing online.

Paint and graphics can go just about anywhere. Would be a cheap way to at least spruce it up.
Agree 100% and that’s why, from the get go, I’ve been saying the structure is fine and you can sink $5 million into that place to update it with graphics, lighting, video boards, etc and it would look like a brand new, up to date place. It’s amazing what that can do to a facility.

Barney has to keep basketball on top for the next coach too. I don’t feel uk has to win to make sure the program is taken care of. Facilities are for the players now and the future not a reward to John calipari for winning.
Fine with an update though I love the idea of a new museum at heart of campus. Also, love the idea of UKMBB having their own place and not sharing with anyone.
We talkin bout practice man, "PRACTICE" Why does anyone need a PRACTICE facility that seats 10K?
Actually Colonial Life is a helluva faculty. It seats over 18K and every seat is a cushioned seat. No bleachers. The sound system is kick *** and the lower level is bowl shaped and much better views than Rupp in the corners and end zone.
I love watching the Cats play there and am always amazed that they have such a nice on campus arena.
