Oh ********. Kyle Flood is absolutely a high character guy, despite this screw up.

You're crazy if you don't recognize that.

Grow up.

Really?

Sends email from personal account so that it can't be traced.

Wears plain clothes without any RU on purpose.

And may I remind everyone - this is a man that tried to hire the guy who paid his salary. This is INTEGRITY???!

Yeah, ok.

Only thing worse than flood is his supporters and the propaganda machine.

Flood made a series of mistakes...not a single mistake.

And this is a big boy and girl world we live in. People's careers go up in smoke for a series of mistakes.

No the only thing worse is people like you going on a witch hunt to get rid of a good man and a good coach, and using this as an excuse.

If he was coming off a major bowl win last year, and was undefeated this year, NONE of you would be calling for his head.

None of you would be citing this email-gate overblown BS as a reason to get rid of him.

He didn't break any NCAA rules, just a Rutger rule, and other more successful coaches have done far worse and not gotten this much blowback.

You don't know he didn't break an NCAA rule. That hasn't been decided yet.

The only defense of Flood is that this was clearly the first time he did something like this. You know this for a few reasons...1) The bumbling nature of how he handled it and 2) the fact that academic support reported him tells you that they have integrity and want to do the right thing.

I can say it...and in fact, I just did.

Just because you guys don't like him because he doesn't win enough games, doesn't make it right.

He is a very high quality guy, that maybe cares a little too much for his players, and he f'ed up.

But I'll say it again because I fully believe it. Kyle Flood is a high character guy that made s mistake.

If Flood had won more games in his first three seasons, you jokers calling for his head wouldn't be saying **** right now and you all know it.

You want to like him, fine, you want to think he's a "high quality guy," you're going to get laughed at right now - by most - but it's still your right to a personal opinion, BUT....giving **** to other posters, right now, for not thinking the same, sorry Buggsy, you're looking foolish and I don't really think you're a fool at all.

Making a few edits to be clear ...

Buggsy I can speak for myself here and say that what his record was before is totally irrelevant.

IMO he used his position of power to intimidate. Why else use that footer in his email, which he apparently typed out each time since the footnotes in the report reference different versions?

Why would the AA lie here? If he/she is telling the truth about the telephone call of August 3 then Flood knew he was breaking the rules. If thats the case then he LIED in a statement about not knowing the rules, as per page 23 of the report.

Goodbye.

...this report reads pretty ugly.

My gut tells me that there's good possibility that this 3 week suspension is an opportunity for Rutgers to finish up their HR paperwork. I think he could be done.
You nailed it. This isnt over. Will explain at Redrum next week

Just a few days ago I said I was ok either way keeping him or letting him go. I'm sorry that changes now with this thing. It's more than I suspected and I don't like what he's done it goes beyond simply helping a player out. Being specifically told not to have contact, using a private email to avoid public view...these don't smell right don't look right don't feel right. If they want to wait until the end of the season so be it but I want us to cut ties and move on.

Flood's actions smell of desperation rather than ignorance. The suspension is likely a front to buy time while exploring other coaching options. Much as I hate to say it, GS might be a very good option to hold both the program and recruiting together. However he will be expensive just don't think he will be a winning solution long term unless he gives up some control on offense.

He obviously lied to the investigators about not knowing about the RU rule forbidding contact. What's so high character about that?

I'm amazed he wasn't fired over these transgressions. Willful, deceitful, ignorant. cheating -- all these words come to mind in describing what happened.

They are exploring ways to not have to pay his buyout, or significantly reduce it.

Disagree. They already have cause. I think they are exploring other coaching options. If they find a viable replacement they can pull the trigger. If not they can go back to Flood after three weeks and wait out the season.

I never believed KF was a qualified coach to be leading us in the Big 10, but I felt local media spent way too much time making something out of nothing. Turns out I was incorrect and Flood has been playing that good guy image a little too well. Now that his integrity has been exposed, I feel comfortable with us moving forward and looking for the right guy that will turn around our image.

Flood screwed up but he was willing to go bat for someone.

Desperation seems not likely since the player arrests hadn't occurred yet.

That's really my position as well.

Forget the substance. Let's look at the decision making and how his actions reek of desperation.

These are leadership qualities?

Maybe he's under pressure to perform and in his opinion needs every corner cut to get the job done.

Unless there is something severe that none of us know about, Flood will get a slap on the wrist for the email (or maybe a short suspension if he was asking for a grade change). And unless he was covering something up (and there is zero evidence today that suggests that), he won't be punished for the arrests.

So really the only thing that would jeopardize Flood's job is losing too many football games.

In retrospect, the report indicates something much more severe than I anticipated. I had assumed Flood had sent one or two emails to a professor. I didn't expect that he had sent multiple emails and met the professor in person. And I really didn't expect that he had used his personal email account to avoid OPRA discovery. That pretty much indicates that he knew he was doing something wrong.

I don't know if Flood is done at Rutgers. But right now I think he probably should be.

Like some of you, this three week suspension buys them time to get their ducks in a row to give him the heave ho. Not necessarily a weak penalty.

After reading the report, I think Flood should be fired. I cite one paragraph from the report on Page 18 (you can't cut and paste from the report) that Flood never bothered making himself familiar with the RU policies that cover this situation and he did not attend annual compliance trainings. I don't know about you, but I have to do annual trainings (usually of the online variety) that bore me to death. Even though they CYA my workplace and the management more than me, I do learn something important from these trainings. So what makes him so special? It doesn't appear the trainings were mandatory, but should be. A number of schools make trainings mandatory for students, faculty and staff, especially of the sex harassment/sex assualt variety. Anyway, It's part of the job (and in his contract) to know the rules and the risk you put the team, program, athletes and the university when you don't follow them. Ignorance of the law is never an excuse, or so I am told by people with JDs and have passed Bar exams.

Plus, the meeting with the Prof was just desperate and weird. We now know that Barnwell wasn't worth the risk.

Hell, I don't think Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton ever said in their private emails that they were trying to avoid FOIA laws.

You do have to go through mandatory trainings. All of the time. That part is definitely not on Rutgers.

YES - Suspect we will hear that after extended discussion it has been concluded that it would be best for all parties to go their separate ways a mutually acceptable settlement has been reached.

This way Rutgers can look firm - but does not have to look like a ruthless employer that will seek to extract ultra-maximum vengeance for sub-maximum transgressions.

- and Flood does not have to go through the public humiliation that would come with having every single transgression dragged out on stage and paraded around.

I think he should be let go at the end of the season. I don't know if it's a money issue with a replacement or maybe enough Ws could save him, not sure but as far as the admin is concerned it doesn't sound like the door is completely shut seeing some of Barchi's comments on tv.

Flood's integrity is tarnished to me to a degree. I'm not going to go so far as some and make it seem like he's some despicable person but he's taken a hit in my eyes.

FHJ was told not to go to a baseball game by pernetti. He did and was eventually fired for it. KF in the same boat but this is a bit more severe.

I, for one, think that Schiano is a lot better than what we have right now, but I wouldn't exactly be doing cartwheels with a Schiano hire.

Flood is gone, guaranteed - only a matter of time and I hope it's sooner rather than later - RU's probably just preparing the HR/legal case to dismiss him for cause (willful abrogation of clearly laid out university policies). Bring on Greg, please.

It's certainly on Flood, it is on RU to some extent. If the NCAA or someone else were to investigate, maybe this falls under the category of lack of institutional control that they failed to monitor his failure to attend trainings and RU's failure to compel him to go to mandatory trainings. I have to take mandatory IT security training every year. If I don't take it, I lose computer access at my work, and that's my work's obligation to compel my glazing over a 50 PowerPoint slide show so I can do my job, stay employed and cover their backsides if I open a phishing email and my's work's systems get hacked.

Doesn't mean he's not gone at the end of the year.

Letting him run out the season reduces his buyout.

BTN Live host indicated that Gerry Dinardo told him what Flood did is within the rules at many schools. But Barchi indicated RU has a zero tolerance policy, despite Flood's good intentions. Keith Sargeant is to call in next segment.

Sargeant indicated that the "optics" looked bad but that the punishment was fair and that Flood's reputation among those who know him and his charity work etc help his cause.

Conclusion: the program just needs something good to happen and get past this suspension and the unrelated recent player arrests and dismissals.
