Meant kool-aid...
I think he is just as flummoxed as the rest of us. He's been watching his play against his and that isn't much of a test. Every team has their own character and so far this team looks soft under pressure. Still 10 weeks to go, maybe they find themselves against Duke.
One thing I can guarantee they won't go 0-12. I bet my screen name on it!![]()
Yep Gerry DiNardo gushed about the Cats during BTN day at NU. No one saw this coming.
Malcom Bell, the North Carolina Central QB, has passed for over 200 yards against WMU in the first half--------ouch!I do remember him expressing some reservations about the o-line. But seriously, who saw 0-2 coming. We have a good number of kids from both sides of the ball returning from a team that went 6-2 in the B1G and can't beat an FCS team? This could be the worst team in years if they don't wake up fast. I can't see us beating any B1G team, including Purdue, if the offense continues like this. I'm as big a backer of Fitz as there is, but heads need to roll when your 85-scholarship team in a Power 5 conference can't beat a 63-scholarship FCS school.

I don't see what everyone is freaking out about. We were one puff of wind away from winning a thrilling well-played game against a tough opponent.People need to lose jobs. Players, coaches, whoever. Completely unacceptable to come out totally flat against a FCS opponent on both sides of the ball after losing your home opener.
This. I hadn't thought about that dimension. Pretty amazing what Spack accomplished. Would like to see him in purple....
NU fan attendance is going to be brutal this year too. I was looking to go to a few games before the season started - not any more.Players usually pick NU for off-field reasons, but I guarantee you other coaches will be on the phone to our commits ASAP (especially Brown and Kent).

Or maybe I was puffing something.

Sorry, but being one play away from beating a 63 scholarship team isn't much to brag about. Big 10 teams should handle all but the very best FCS teams. Maybe ISU is one of the best. But NU didn't look the part today........

Let me translate my post: us bad team. Smithee unhappy and resorting to sarcasm.

Attendance has been brutal already, 30k for each of the first two games coming off a 10 win season, with The Franchise, JJTBC and Matthew Harris? Weather has been perfect, no excuse for fans not to show up.
It's not that uncommon for cliques to develop. It's a little unrealistic to think 100+ guys would all get along and pal around at all times. But I also don't think it's a real part of the issue.

Please: enough with the "10win season" stuff... The entire world (other than the purple-bleeding die-guards on this board) saw that record for what it was: a fluke. And that includes the majority of our season ticket base (which has largely no-showed the first 2 games) and also anybody even considering single game ticket purchases. And pollsters. They knew, too.
Folks who watched the games last year saw what happened with their own eyes. The "10 win season" passed NOBODY'S reality/eye test. If we don't fix this, you can expect a serious drop off in season ticket sales. I hope we do turn it around. I like a full stadium and a full parking lot. Adds to the fun. But this team has not been fun for a while. And people are starting to vote with their feet...I saw it today and I think it's gonna get worse.

Tough sell when you're playing teams that most people expect you to beat.
It's funny how every apologist is coming on here now to tout WMU as a MAC powerhouse and to remind us that ISU will make the FCS playoffs.
Didn't everybody pretty much predict Ws in those prediction threads?
If not turned around by Nebraska, I agree. And not at the end of the season. All of the offensive coaching staff needs to be let go. All of them.
Understatement.People need to lose jobs. Players, coaches, whoever. Completely unacceptable to come out totally flat against a FCS opponent on both sides of the ball after losing your home opener.
Yeah Cole could take over for Springer
Hate to say this to you but I still sort of like McCall. Assuming JJTBC is out for Duke, i would start Alviti and run read option all day with Moten or Anderson.
Some people say McCall shows no imagination and doesn't bother with the chess game of showing one look and going back to the same look and running it with a different wrinkle later in the game. But from a game plan standpoint I remember Kafka in the Metrodome filling in for Bacher. I remember shifting to an option attack with Kain and Venric when everybody knew us as a short passing team running fastball.
Anyway you know I think Cush has to go. Friend of Pat aside, it is possible to find good recruiters and Mick will retire eventually and you need to find an heir apparent since there is no budget to hire Art Briles' son
Do u see this causing commits to decommit?
If not turned around by Nebraska, I agree. And not at the end of the season.
This is the most poorly coached offense I have seen in the time I have been seriously following NU football (since 1995).
Only problem is, who would replace them?
How in the world could you say this?
We look TERRIBLE and our Offense is bad. It's so unimaginative, buddies and I can watch the game together and call the plays with 80ish% accuracy. That's really bad.
Just watch other teams around CFB and you can't help but notice how bad our offensive preparation and playing calling is. It's been a historical trend for YEARS. That falls on the individual responsible for the offense. McCall has got to go.
This is a potentially bad argument but I'll make it anyway. I'm a Colorado guy and a Broncos fan. As you know, Trevor Siemian was named as the starter. I watched the Broncos v. Panthers this week and was STUNNED. Trevor didn't even look like the same quarterback. His decision making, throws, and overall command of the offense were very good. He looked like he belonged in the NFL and belonged as the starter. Granted it's one game and I'll caveat that Denver has better receivers and offensive line. However, the development of Siemian is stark. If you read articles talking about Siemian quoting people from the entire Broncos organization, they ALL say they believe he is the real deal. He was never bad in college but he certainly wasn't great either, he was okay. He often made some forced errors, made overthrows consistently on long balls and never looked like a true NFL guy.
It shows you what happens when a talented individual gets great play calling and very strong coaching and tutelage. Players in ALL areas of the offense do not even come close to reaching their potential under McCall.
I'd never expect us to get a Peyton Manning/John Elway type guy to provide perspective to our QBs but we can do better than McCall.
We deserve better and we should demand better.
he would be a better AD.Thanks for your honest opinion. Hearing you say this, means something needs to be done real soon. I'm OK with Fitz as head coach but he really needs to make some changes very soon. Screw the loyalty stuff.
Please stop, stop with there is no money in the budget.Yeah Cole could take over for Springer

Agree to disagree. If you were McCall, what imaginative calls would you make with an OL that can't block at all? If you can't run the ball and can't pass protect, what kind of offense do you run?
Do you think McCall has forgotten how to run the offenses that he deployed under Bacher, Kafka, Persa and Colter? Go back and watch Bacher vs Iowa or Kafka vs Minny subbing for CJ or Kafka as a senior in the Outback Bowl or Persa vs Iowa or Colter and Mark running the option. There is a lot of variation there.
He does not have the horses and I think his horses are poorly instructed by their position coaches, whether it's technique, motivation or a lack of in-game adjustments.

Certainly we could have tried to get the ball to GDick or anyone over the middle in the 10 yard range .You call either a bunch of quick passes (slants, short out patterns) or have the QB roll out to give him more time. That's basically all we saw yesterday in the second half. Problem is that our WRs still have trouble getting open and/or catching the ball. Hence, zero points against a FCS opponent until the middle of the 4th quarter.
Art Briles looking for a job.
