some of you are trying to hard.
You now what they say. of you are trying to hard.
This. The same thing every game thread. We suck, we wont win another game. Hada, hada, hada. And then when we win, "oh those guys suck, and the last team we beat sucked". You know what they say. "Those who can play (or coach), and those who can't sit on their couch and critique those who can.

"Winningest coach". Aside from the butchery of the English language in that expression, I take it to mean percentage of wins, not the raw number. And Ferentz will never touch the highest percentage in the Big Ten.
Just some context for those of you who MUST keep bringing that crap up. Go back and do some actual research on the crap teams that Woody and Bo used to piss pound in the Big two and the little 8. Do those wins not count as well? Go back and look at some of the schools on Staggs record back in the 20's on whenever it was.

Thats pretty much the response I'd expect. Why should Woody get credit for crushing the like of Wisconsin, Minn or a NW team that averaged less then 2 wins a year, and then in the same breath say Kirk didn't do crap because he coached many years in the west, when those teams were way better then they were when Woody was coaching. Thats a fact

True. The BIG10 used to be the BIG2. It was Michigan or OSU at the Rose Bowl every year during most of the 60s and 70s. Then Fry came along and showed the rest of the BIG you could compete with these guys.

Reading this thread is not unlike reading the manifesto of a deranged lunatic hahahahaha. Some folks are enraged Kirk is setting this record and figuratively out in the streets with black hoodies on burning cars.

That has nothing to do with whether the definition of "winningest" is better represented by percentage or raw number.

I believe “Brown time“ is in Iowa’s future. Probably not this year but the next couple.
Brown looked really comfortable out there. Good timing and placement with the exception of the long throw to Parker in the endzone that's a TD if he keeps it inbounds. Parker made a great adjustment and catch out of bounds on that play. Kid has some skills.

Brown throws an actual spiral that dont wobble at least, but UMass is a bad bad team so not much to take away from this game other than a W.

How many “spirals” did Marino throw in his day? He was the master of the wobbler but the ball still got caught.
The concerning thing to me is that Gronowski’s ball (short passes) seem to wobble (travel) “nose up” which makes them tougher to catch.

Didn't watch much of last week, but after last night I'm a big believer in the WR corps having drops. Hopefully RVZ comes back and has sure hands, otherwise that's going to hamper QB productivity moving forward.

I don't think drops are quite as big of an issue as people are making it out to be. Nearly every game is going to have a drop or two and they tend to stick in people's minds, especially if they kill a drive. There were 3 notable drops in the game, but none were perfect balls. The throw to Parker was high and I don't believe that he was able to get a good grip on the ball as he was trying to bring it down into his body. The throw to Vonhamme was a hot one on a crossing pattern over the middle that was out in front and a little bit low requiring him stretch out and down for the ball. The most obvious drop was the Seth Anderson pass. It was a bit high but the most accurate of the 3. It also came in nose up with a wobble. The receivers had hands on all 3 of these, so by definition they should have been caught. It's also true that none of them were perfectly thrown balls.

indiana and rutgers will be way more of a test for sure. nice win but we all know it was UMASS
It's an interesting and fortuitous matchup with Rutgers. Highly skilled and explosive Rutgers offense vs an excellent Iowa defense. Then you have what appears to be a below average Iowa offense going up against what appears to be a very porous Rutgers D. If Iowa can't score points in this one it's going to be a long season. It's another opportunity for MG to get right vs another weak defensive unit.

I like Iowa in a nail biter 24-23.

Kinda awkward bringing up the normal postgame interview stuff after all the talk about the wins record and then reminding of the loss @ ISU.

Thanks for that, Anthony!
I think his nerves got the better of him like Chris Farley interviewing Paul McCartney on SNL

They really should've stayed in FCS.

But in all fairness, if the FBS level of CFB gave a sh** about its traditions and regionality in 2025, there's enough teams to form a northeastern G5 conference that UMass would fit into better. The MAC is not it for them.
