Firing Tyndall with cause should eliminate having to pay one more, but I don't think Tennessee has the war chest to go after a big time name. I still think Tennessee is a great job and if Donavan leaves Florida, I think the door is open for a team to ascend to the number two team in the SEC.
I do think it true that Tennessee has a ton of financial obligations that are negative (coaching buyouts for Dooley, FUlmer, et al), but with SEC TV money and a big time donor base that wants to win, there is no reason why UT can't pay top dollar or a coach if they want to. They don't have the warchest of alabama at this time, but SEC Network money alone makes this an easy call. You go out and get the best coach that will come to knoxville.

Great question ! I think it will be hard for UT to fine a coach with all everything going on there. I think there will be other openings soon as other coaches will be fired.

Tennessee is going to lead the nation in introducing new basketball coaches. At least this time its not Tennessee's own fault.

Northern Iowa coach has had some success and not just this year. Bose state coach too. Massiello. Hurley.

But that's not ut style. Recent success might cost money. They're going to hire somebody who just coached in the NIT or CBI. Just watch.
Chris Mack

He's going somewhere.

Call me Crazy but I think Xavier is a better basketball coaching job than Tennessee

I wouldn't disagree, but X can't afford to pay what Tenn could.

I hope UT has to pay through the nose to Tyndall and they get hit with some sanctions as well. The rumors were flying when they brought this guy in and they had a chance to drop him before the season even began. Just like when IU hired Sampson. They knew the risk involved, they should face the consequences. You reap what you sow.Not just fire the coach and walk away scot-free

A couple of things.

1. We still have people that can't spell the name "Gillispie". It's pretty ubelievable.
2. Tennessee is actually a really good job. And the sec is a great opportunity for a coach like Mack.

Do people still not understand why guys like Greg Marshall are interested in alabama? It's called CONFERENCE SHIFTS, and they aren't over. Sec schools have tons of money to throw around off of our deals, and we are a power 5 league. We are a SAFE place for a coach to land. And these jobs are going to start becoming very difficult to obtain. I'm sorry but it's like some people don't pay any attention at all.

power 5 schools that are willing to pay are where coaches are going to want to be. Everyone will see why in the next decade. Mid majors are going to be playing in leagues all on their own. Everything is going to change.

But spelling Gillispie "Gillespie" when he coached here as long as he di is pretty ridiculous.

I still can't believe UT hired Tyndall in the first place. It was ridiculous even without the NCAA sanction possibilities hanging over his head. They were just desperate and embarrassed because no one else would take the job. Now they have even more egg on their face.

To be fair does it really matter how we spell his name? It's not like those two years were a memorable high point.
