I do think it true that Tennessee has a ton of financial obligations that are negative (coaching buyouts for Dooley, FUlmer, et al), but with SEC TV money and a big time donor base that wants to win, there is no reason why UT can't pay top dollar or a coach if they want to. They don't have the warchest of alabama at this time, but SEC Network money alone makes this an easy call. You go out and get the best coach that will come to knoxville.Originally posted by jpbky2:
The Tennessee athletic department quit funding academics for three years and laid off 17 employees in their athletic department last year to try and help balance their budget from all the buyouts they have. Firing Tyndall with cause should eliminate having to pay one more, but I don't think Tennessee has the war chest to go after a big time name. I still think Tennessee is a great job and if Donavan leaves Florida, I think the door is open for a team to ascend to the number two team in the SEC.
Great question ! I think it will be hard for UT to fine a coach with all everything going on there. I think there will be other openings soon as other coaches will be fired.Originally posted by littlecreek:
Tyndall gets fired for that & Roy Williams is still coaching at UNC for all their things.
Call me Crazy but I think Xavier is a better basketball coaching job than TennesseeOriginally posted by CatPhight:

That coach at Xavier has been to the see sixteen in six years.
And the coach at New Mexico state has been to six tournaments in a row.
Northern Iowa coach has had some success and not just this year. Bose state coach too. Massiello. Hurley.
But that's not ut style. Recent success might cost money. They're going to hire somebody who just coached in the NIT or CBI. Just watch.
He's going somewhere.

I wouldn't disagree, but X can't afford to pay what Tenn could.Originally posted by LouievileKat:

A couple of things.
1. We still have people that can't spell the name "Gillispie". It's pretty ubelievable.
To be fair does it really matter how we spell his name? It's not like those two years were a memorable high point.Originally posted by .S&C.:
Yea I'm on an iPhone sometimes it happens.
But spelling Gillispie "Gillespie" when he coached here as long as he di is pretty ridiculous.
