Tyndall out at UT?

Hate to see anyone lose their job. Even
Boss Hog. But, I hate the Vols with every
fiber of my being. Nice to see the turmoil
and overall suckiness of their athletic
department.

With the pending NCAA sanctions at Southern Miss and Tyndall probably being named in them, does Tennessee have to pay him the remainder of his contract? I believe Tennessee is paying a lot of coaches not to coach at Tennessee and that may have a big impact on who they can bring in to replace him. I personally think Tennessee would be a good job, but they may have to go the assistant or mid major route just to save money.
It is definite and most likely UT will owe him nothing. Also they can recover 500 thousand paid to Southern Miss for his buyout. Rumors are flying for Rick Stansbury. He would fit well there.
Rick Stansbury would be a great pick. I am not particularly fond of him, but he is a proven winner in the SEC in Starkville, Mississippi; recruited well at A&M. I think that would be a solid choice. The coach at Belmont or Michael White would be solid choices as well.
Disagree with Stansbury...he's average at best.

Get someone like a Hurley who knows the game, and gets his teams to play to win.
Hurley should be in good shape this summer....hasn't signed an extension with Buffalo and he's getting interest from DePaul.
Not that I would like to see that happen, but it would spark interest in the SEC.

Not surprised by his firing, but this guy can coach. I know they did not want to fire him because of the turnover of coaches there but felt they had to at this point. This sets them back years in building a program as they didnt have a roster this year and now no recruiting next year.
Question is who do they look to next?

I have zero faith that UT will make a solid hire. Rick Byrd is a former UT player but he has been offered before, loves Nashville and Belmont. Rick Stansbury is a washed up has been. They have blundered every hire in BB except Pearl. He was a small college coach that Mike Hamilton got right. Doug Dickey apparently could have had Kevin Stallings but was on phone with Rick Barnes and the coach who coached Bulls, USC, were all on phone with D. Dickey in next room. Stallings allegedly heard it and walked. Stallings is not popular on this board but he is a very good coach.
I would say if Alabama is throwing money out for Marshall at Wichita St. than UT should get in the fray.

Over signing of players, coaches in SEC have said that B. Jones is back to the old boy ways in Knoxville as far as recruiting. They are overly aggressive so it may not play out great for them. They are talented and will be a factor.

The Tennessee athletic department quit funding academics for three years and laid off 17 employees in their athletic department last year to try and help balance their budget from all the buyouts they have. Firing Tyndall with cause should eliminate having to pay one more, but I don't think Tennessee has the war chest to go after a big time name. I still think Tennessee is a great job and if Donavan leaves Florida, I think the door is open for a team to ascend to the number two team in the SEC.

I talked to his wife, who is a former Lady Cat, at the UK/TN game. She seems really nice, but now she will have to unload that $1.5M on the lake she was telling me about.

That coach at Xavier has been to the see sixteen in six years.
And the coach at New Mexico state has been to six tournaments in a row.
Northern Iowa coach has had some success and not just this year. Bose state coach too. Massiello. Hurley.
But that's not ut style. Recent success might cost money. They're going to hire somebody who just coached in the NIT or CBI. Just watch.

A source said UT will not owe Tyndall any of the $3 million buyout from his six-year deal worth $1.6 million annually. The contract allowed UT to fire Tyndall for cause if he committed Level I or Level II violations at UT or another NCAA institution, such as Southern Miss. This is from the Knoxville newspaper.
I didn't, in any way, shape or form, say that Donavan would leave Florida for Tennessee. What I said was that if Donavan leaves Florida for the NBA, to me, the Tennessee job may be the second most attractive job in the SEC. So, Tennessee needs to jump on a good coach before any other bigger/better jobs become available.

Fired for NCAA violations while he was at Southern Mississippi involving illegal financial aid given to players that were not on the roster. Serves him right, he was involved in violations while at Morehead State also. He's DI done.

I think some UT athletic admins should be kicked out as well...
as for his possible replacement...I'm not sure why Rick Stansbury is always so quickly ruled out by some...especially for jobs in the SEC...
He made Miss St in to a solid competitive program that gave UK all we wanted many times...he just helped the Aggies haul in one of the best recruiting classes in the country...there are a lot worse candidates out there...and after all it is a football school in a football conference, so it's not like they get first pick of the top basketball coaches...
as for some other possible names...
Maybe they hold out to see what Texas does with Barnes...or if Crean comes available...

Kenny Payne--he's going to have his own gig some day...one of Cal's guys associated with all the OAD success, has a title, currently on an undefeated run...that would be worth something on the recruiting trail...
Anthony Grant--He's a better coach than what his record at Bama shows...if they invested in him and the program, I think he could get them to respectable...
Archie Miller--perfect opportunity to show what he can do in a power 5 conference...
Tommy Amaker--maybe he's ready for another go in a P5 conference...getting Harvard on a respectable track and into the tourney is no small task...
Billy Gillespie--I'm not sure where he is or what he's doing...but basketball is his life...if he could get right with his drinking he would at the very least be a relentless worker and have the UT squad in the best condition they've been in...probably could get him for cheap compared to others...
