I agree with you. I don't give a **** who gets butthurt over it.
Name the coach who could do better. Name the coach at UK besides Rupp who has done better. Get over it or find another team. Tired of these idiotic posts because a kid goes after his dream and some knuckledragger feels upset. Just shut up and leave the board and go root for someone who will please your pathetic standard.

Congratulations to the CLOD. Herro’s remaining in the draft should should given you a boon of new stuff to toss at our lifetime coach. I’m sure the gears of hate are grinding away. I’m expecting new heights of negativity from the bashing boyhood.

To the legitimate fans, was anyone really surprised by this? I don’t think Herro had many options to be honest.

Yeah I can

K had a similar player in Herro stay 4 years. Spare me your BS. When’s the last time K had a 4 star one and done? Cal’s had 3 of them in the last 4-5 years.
So they should stay because of their HS ranking? Good grief. SGA should have stayed? Why?

Pitino was about as good as Calipari is now.

Both won 1 title.

Both went to the Final Four about 40% of the time.

Both have contended for titles virtually every season they were/are at UK.

So by historical standards:

1. Rupp
2. Calipari and Pitino (tied)
Massive Drop
3. Hall
4. Smith
Massive drop:
5. Sutton
6. BCG

So. Let me get this straight.

Herro is obviously getting positive feed back.
He’s a phenomenal FT% shooter. He can catch and shoot exceptionally well (something the NBA highly values). Has an high basketball IQ.

But he’s “average” at best. Ok.

He’s obviously hearing different from scouts and NBA reps. You know, people that are actually paid to eat, sleep, breathe basketball.
But with good feedback and a Top 20 pick he’s supposed to return.

Tyler is actually projected higher than PJ. And people think he should stay. Yeah. Ok.

Boy. Can’t wait for the meltdown when KJ (who’s a Top 10 pick) leaves.

KJ. is Top Ten ? ah. No .

Houston was decent, but they weren't particularly noteworthy. Do they even have an NBA player? Maybe Corey Davis?

2017 Wichita State was a 10 seed for a reason. Kinda surprised you're inflating them.

And loosely talking about UK's historical flameouts is fine if all you're willing to do is mitigate present failures by constantly pointing to past standards, but it does nothing to extend the current conversation regarding ways UK can actually advance farther in the tournament. Can you imagine a fortune 500 company constantly deflecting from their current marketing failures by comparing themselves to what they did in the 1980s? "Well, at least we're better now, so this year's failure doesn't really matter because it measures well with historical standards."

I'm not sure if Cal would prescribe to that type of thinking.
UK has averaged winning 30 games a year under Cal. Has been to four final fours and won a title. Been to the Elite 8 7 out of 10 years including 2 of the past 3 years. By any measure, he has done an outstanding job. That you don’t see it is your problem.

We now the last 2 years have lost 2 4* players to the draft. Not sure what else he can do. Anyone with a pulse and half way decent leave. You don’t have to be a dominate player anymore just decent college freshman and you get drafted. Another reason I don’t watch the NBA. It has a few good teams and a lot of really bad teams. I love basketball but have no desire to watch bad basketball played by guys making millions.

It’s not on Cal, but what I’m saying is this. Just take it for what it is. We aren’t winning another title with our current roster turnover, and playing second fiddle to Duke in recruiting. I still stand by my original statement. That’s not a knock. That’s just another fact. My opinions are FACT. Jk
What exactly has duke done with all those "better" recruits the last 4 years?

Knox was a lottery pick. Never expected him to return. We all hoped Cal’s pitch to Tyler would be something like this..

- Focal point of the offense

- Become a lottery pick

- Build your brand

- NPOY or 1st team all-american

- Win a national title

But alas, he gone.
Are you really that dense?

I do see it. That's not my argument. I love Cal, but I'm always interested in conversations that point to potential ways to make the program better. Are you?

The question isn't whether UK has arrived. The question is how can UK improve as a program. Guys like Pitino, Rupp, and Cal actually thrive on those types of questions. I can assure you Cal is wrestling with those questions right now. So all this message board banter isn't even for him. It's for our fans. Fans who want Cal out have missed the mark completely. Fans who are content have likewise missed the mark.

There's a place in between, and it's where I hope our fans engage in most of the future conversations. Questions surrounding grad transfers, player retention, the death of the OAD in 2022 and UK's response to that, tournament playing style, etc. These are questions that will be eventually be answered in ways that will heavily impact UK in the next decade.

I look forward to the conversations, even those extreme views on both sides of the spectrum.

K didn’t win any titles his first ten years despite multiple final fours. There is no way after seeing UNLV abuse Duke by 30 in the title game in 1990 you saw back to back titles in 91 and 92, especially with the team UNLV was returning. I submit to you the same can be said about UK the next few years.

I don’t care what Duke did with those recruits. I’m a UK fan. Cal’s better than K with 1 and done kids. Put Zion on this team, and we probably win the title.

SGA choked in 2018 against Kansas State, but it didn't hurt his stock.

I get both arguments. I'm just tired of losing any player of substance that our team features. To be honest, none of our returning guys showed me anything of substance last season (IQ, Baker, Hagans, Nick, EJ). We can talk about how great it is to get those guys back, and I hope they improve, but can anyone honestly look me in the face and tell me they performed better than most of the rotation returners for most other SEC teams? Their Mickey D credentials don't mean squat at this point.

Even PJ returning last year wasn't much of an incredible moment for our fan base because we knew he was probably getting drafted in the 50s last year. He might have even went undrafted like Gabriel.

The bottom line is that we haven't returned a kid who was projected in the top 40 of the draft the year he returned since Willie Cauley Stein back in 2014. That's a long damn time ago and it's why portions of the base, while understanding the Cal is right for the job, have also turned into cynics regarding player retention.

Deferring their "dreams" for one season would give UK a real title shot and allow some of these guys to improve. Seeing that none of that matters to the players is the type of thing that hollows out a fan base's optimism over time.

I think PJ was projected top 40 last year. I know Diallo was projected top 40 in 2017.

I don’t think Ulis ever seriously entertained leaving in 2015, but he came back and was an All American. Not sure if he would have gone top 40 in 2015 or not, but he was just outside the top 30 a year later. Isn’t all doom and gloom.

That’s right. Glad he showed up for that moment he was invisible the rest of March

Also shut down the NCAA’s all time leading 3 point shooter in round two. Just stop. If Herro hadn’t been in foul trouble against Auburn we most likely make the Final Four. He was a big part of us getting as far as we did.

I obviously hope you're right. I also think your presence on this message board is a good one. We need fans like you to point to the bigger picture.

That said, some of our fans are lamenting Herro's loss today. It's something we go through every year. It's usually predictable, but it's also something that should be respected because for many of our fans, it means re-calculating an outlook regarding UK's title chances next year. The news today, on a factual level, made the possibility of UK's title chances go down dramatically, even if Herro's NBA defection was pretty much a given.

Out of such a reality is a reminder that UK will have to rebuild and retool again next year. With that comes notions of less component play and less dependable decision making in the tournament.

So, I'd actually argue that trying to convince anyone that their views are shortsighted is not the thing to do on the day a guy who was at least presumed to be a return candidate for about 50% of the season declares for the draft and highlights it by buying a luxury sports vehicle.

Our fans already know we're secondary. We're essentially the ambient noise in the background for stage 1 of the "dream chasing" process. All our guys become millionaires. Cal gets his $10 million. We get a decent tournament run with an annual meltdown in the tournament followed by mass defections to the NBA.

We need to be able to vent about it from time to time without having others crap on the lamentation process.

I have no problem with the venting. What I hate is the, “We will never win another because ...” crowd.

Also, Tony Bennett can’t win the big win.

No way Tiger ever wins another Major.

You get my point.

Couple of things my friend. I wanted KJ and Herro to return as much as you and everyone else. I was as bitterly disappointed in losing to Auburn and Kansas State as you. But I also realize winning the NCAA title is a crap shoot. I also believe if Jay Wright can do it after 15 years and K can do it after 10 years, Cal isn’t done. I could be wrong- but Cal has proven he can win a title. I know you are a big UK fan and damn good poster. We just have different perspectives of the near future of UK basketball. I remain bullish.

No Tyler Herro + no Keldon Johnson = no championship for UK once again in 2020.

We'll have a good team again. We'll win a lot of games. But we'll come up just short once again when it comes to having the team we need to win a national championship. And that is going to continue to be the case as long as we continue to lose anyone that is halfway decent or better every single year.

I am just so sick of what the NBA has done to the college game. They have utterly ruined it. And for whatever reason, it seems UK gets bit harder every year than anyone else.

They were good, but my point was that they weren't a threat for anything of significance that year. Had they made it to the Final Four (or even Elite Eight by getting through UK and UCLA), all of us would have been surprised. Additionally, you of all people understand how stats can be somewhat inflated when playing a crappy schedule. Gonzaga was the recipient of that this year, to an extent, and you've commented on that.

So that Wichita State game represented a good hard fought win. Certainly not a standout win like we saw against the teams UK faced in the 2014 or 2011 Final Four runs.

We've beaten two teams since the end of 2014 that were a real threat to advance to the Final Four: Notre Dame in 2015 and UCLA in 2017.
