I'm excited for Herro. He, along with Baker, will be great multi-year players for us. I feel like Wenyen will stick around another year, too. Hopefully a couple other guys, too...

Baker is most assuredly a multi-year player due to injury and his place on the depth chart. But what makes you think Herro is a multi-year player? It seems this is the growing consensus on this board and I just can't figure out where it stems from. Is it because he's white?

He may not be a multi year player but if we're going to be getting more players ranked around the 25-40 range, we need them to stick around at least a couple of years to be successful. I think he's a two to three year player most likely.

Well, I predicted that UK would land Williamson, Johnson, and Herro prior to Barrett committing to Duke. Yes, Herro has not made it official, but I think it is about as obvious as it gets at this point. Now, we just need Williamson and a proven interior player such as Bol, Brown, or a reclassification.

I've read that some pundits are predicting a nice leap in the rankings for Herro due to his outstanding play at USA Basketball. I would not be surprised to see him gain a fifth star at this point.

I kind of remember having a deadly shooter that couldn't guard his shadow on our last title team..

I like the size of him. Also, if he is a smart player he can learn to play great team defense.

People tend to forget, maybe because he's white, ;) That this dude is athletic. He can jam easily one hand or two plus his crossovers are crazy quick. I'd say he's faster than both Green and Alexander.

He’s going to go down as all time favorite. Saying probably a 2 year guy but wouldn’t be shocked at if he’s a one and done. That’s why guys come here

Heck of a thread. Gotta love our fans. A couple of posters have tried to hijack it to complain about the NCAA, and many others are trying to turn it into an awkward, poorly informed debate about race. If he makes his decision in November, Herro will almost certainly sign with UK. Calipari knows enough about recruiting to receive the benefit of the doubt. Can we just welcome the kid without royally screwing this up?

I'm just saying the average official 40 for the two fastest positions in the NFL (WR, CB) is 4.55. Those guys are some of the best athletes in the world. True 4.4 speed is just extraordinarily rare and hand timed 40s are extremely unreliable measures. Hand timed 40s are the reason why every other high school kid thinks he runs a sub 4.7. It's just not reality though. And yes I am slow, never ran a timed 40 but I'd guess I'd probably run about a 5.5
So is a 38" vertical leap but I had that as well. Can you tell me what the average vert is for 'the best athletes in the world'?God's honest truth, I was dunking in 8th grade. I could dunk all the way up until my late 20s. I was the second fastest guy in our school. My sister was a track star for EKU.

Yes it was hand timed and I only hit that time once and stayed in the mid 4.5 for the most part. NFL players don't train the way track people do and I've heard of several track guys running sub 4.3s that make the Olympics. https://www.sbnation.com/lookit/201...ss-40-time-bengals-nfl-draft-usain-bolt-video is one of them running 4.12.

Your take is wrong on this but I do understand why you think NFL players are the best athletes in the world but they aren't the fastest. They can run 4.4s at 230lbs which is absolutely crazy to think about. I was 170-185 when I was running those times.

Announcing Tuesday pretty much makes it a lock for us, no?

It does. He's quoted in a story Evan Daniels (I believe) wrote as saying that he's found a place where he's comfortable and he wants to make it official and not waste everyone's time.

It'd be pretty hard to have found a place you're comfortable that isn't Kentucky when we're the only visit he's taken since opening his recruitment back up.

Agree I’m actually looking for a reason to be skeptical and can’t find one. Has anyone offered him if late besides wiscy?

Just makes sense, but I guess anything is possible.

And that issue with both KJohnson and THerro existing together....looking like a non-issue.

I don't think so. They might have, but i haven't seen it reported. I would think him not taking any more visits means he either wanted a UK offer and to check the place out and decided it isn't for him and he's going back with Wisconsin, or he saw exactly what he expected it to be and is thrilled to be a Cat.

It sounds like he's committed, just wants to have the public announcement and signing at his school. The kid basically set the date on his way home from Rupp.

He wants out of the land of packers and cheese, whole reason he decomitted in the first place. Randall Cobb is the only good thing in that state..

First, consider the competition. What kind of high level D1 talent is Wisconsin producing every year?

Besides, the video shows me a kid who puts in on the floor but doesn't go anywhere with it. It's a lot of side-to-side stuff before taking a contested jumper. He's not blowing by folks to the rim.

We've seen even guys who did get to the rim consistently in high school against elite competition have trouble with it at this level (Aaron Harrison, Doron Lamb). No one thinks he's a stiff, but even the video you're analyzing shows that he doesn't really have the elite burst or handle it takes to beat your man.

The good news is that his midrange game is very good, he's a strong kid with a big frame, and he uses angles to get where he wants to go and makes shots when he gets there. That's fine. Buddy Hield destroyed guys that way. But no one is making assumptions based on him being white. It's evaluation based on what we see.
I'd say he had similar athleticism to the Harrison's. He more shifty than explosive. His biggest strength is a very good jump shot and what you point out as side to side movement instead of trying to get to the rim, to me is knowing how to use angles and tempo to create space to get his shot off and play to his strength. In that aspect I think you're right but I think if he wanted to get to the rim instead of a jumper then he could get enough space to bulldog through the lane and use his body to finish through contact much like the Harrison's game. That's just not where he wants to be though since the pull-up J is his strength. If he can consistently get to that 5-10 ft jumper and pull up instead of moving into contact and taking a contested layup then he will be really successful.

Athletically I think he's similar to the Harrison's and maybe a step below Bookers athleticism with a similar game. His vertical might not be as good as Lonzo but his lateral speed and ability to play at his speed looks similar. He's not an elite athlete like diallo, fox, and wall but few are.

***The way he uses angles, tempo, and body position to create space and his level of athleticism reminds me a lot of Jimmer Fredette. I'd say Booker of Jimmer are the best all around comparisons. Hopefully he can end up being half the player either were in college.

Just one Cats Fan's opinion.

No, not because he’s white. I also think Barker is a 3/4 year player.

He’s not listed on any mocks even as an also ran. Unless he blows up immediately he’s not getting drafted that quick. I think people are just going by the current situation. Could change. But as of right now Cal is offering a sharp shooting 4 Star who isn’t a great defender.

Progress.

If he signed with Rat Face , he would be in the top ten now !! If he signed with UNCheat his classroom days would almost be over !!

I'm all in for Tyler Herro. He fills a need and his game was something coach Cal was looking for. I think he picks up a fifth star along the journey. Hope he plays two years here.

I love this kid's game and HOPE to have him 3-4 years.

If he's OAD it means we had a helluva year in 2019. Win-win either way for us, IMO.

I've not been following this thread. But I think it is a reasonable thing to think Herro is a 2+ year Wildcat. Not because he is white. It is just a numbers game. There are only about 10-15 OAD each year. So if you are not a top 15-20 player (I think Herro rates in the 20's) then most probably believe you will not be a OAD. Then add in that his position (SG) is the one of least demand in the NBA, that doesn't help either (I would rate the positions as C, PG, PF, SF, 2G as their NBA draft value). If he were a 7'0 C or PF ranked in the 20's then you could make a better case for him to be OAD.
Baker was not a OAD, even before he got hurt. Same position issue as Herro, but also my understanding is that Baker really needs to work on his body & strength before going to the next level. Fox could get away with that flaw because he was so good at other things. Unless Baker is a 50% 3pt shooter, he needs to get stronger to defend his position.

I hope your comparison to Harrison is off. I thought those kids were over rated. They may have dominated in high school, but in college, they were just average athletes with jump shots that weren't that reliable. IMO, they played for themselves & not the team as exhibited in the Wi final four game. They decided they were going to be the hero instead of getting the ball to Towns who was absolutely unstoppable. Instead of being a hero, they were a zero. That game still makes my blood boil.

The comparison was to their athletic ability, not their style of play. His game is more similar to a taller Doron Lamb or a Jimmer.

As for the twins. They lead us to a runner up and a perfect season that got derailed in the final four. That's hindsight. Cal had put the game in their hands for 2 years and they had been about as clutch as you could ask for. Cal preaches attacking the rim. If any one of those possessions ends with a bucket or with one of the countless fouls getting called then we likely win the game regardless of the infamous no call shot clock violation at a critical juncture.

If you are talking about the Jimmer that played for BYU, I think it was, that would be great. That kid was tough as nails & had to carry his team most of the time. He was an excellent player in college.

Short memory. Arron’s 3 game winning shots took us to the final the year before but don’t let it diminish your hate.
