He was a clown and too often made the game about himself.I seriously doubt someone would be kept 34 years as a ref if he were inept. "A clown," maybe, if you go by his antics. But he must have making most of his calls right or he never would have lasted 34 years. And that crack about West Virginia native and clown is typical down-your-nose attitude that outsiders have about my native state's residents. Stereotypical and ignorant, of course. But typical.

In the early 90s I saw Teddy at the gym 4-5 times a week and his upper body looked like that of a bodybuilder. He was as strong upper body as many of the former WVU Oline man who lifted there. At the same time, I have seen more mass on the legs of an old persons walker than that on his legs. His physique was definitely clownish looking.
He also drove a blue ford ranger extended cab with a step side bed that was clownish looking.
He was a nice guy though
That's damn near any gym these days. Guy goes to my gym and looks like Johnny Bravo.
