waiting......somewhat patiently
x's and o's for those of us who just enjoy watching the game and took too many blows to the head as high schoolers.
well there's a little more to it than that. There's a couple of guys on here who do good breakdown of plays which are worth reading and he's one of them. It's one of the reasons I pay the big bucks for this board.Winking As an old fart ADD sufferer, I've never had the patience or inclination to study things that closely to make anything more than obvious observations. I respect a couple of guys who can give us more than the obvious. There used to be another poster/coach who was really good and unfortunately is no longer posting here.Tuco: "We won."
I was joking, sorry. I get it, and I agree some have more insight than others. As someone else mentioned, it would be cool if we had access to the game film the coaches use. You miss a lot with the zoomed in TV footage.well there's a little more to it than that. There's a couple of guys on here who do good breakdown of plays which are worth reading and he's one of them. I LOVE game video breakdown from guys who know what the hell they're talking about. What happened and why. Love it. It takes most of the opinion out of it and lays bare the facts. The video doesn't lie but you have to know what the responsibilities were on any given play.I was joking, sorry. I get it, and I agree some have more insight than others. Sorry. Having a little family time this afternoon. I will post something this evening after dinner.
But the offense seemed out of sync. The timing was off, even when the snap was on target.
I don’t know if South Alabama came in with a different gameplay than what Frost expected or as Fred Durst and limp bizkit say “just one of dem dayz”
I fully expect the offense to be more crisp next week. Yesterday just seemed like the execution was just missing and the timing was off
That's an easy generalization but doesn't identify why we struggled from an x's and o's standpoint. You're obviously correct, but if we really want to learn something so we can comment intelligently it's good to see some x's and o's analysis. Sometimes the scheme makes a guy look bad and vice versa. Diaco most of the time and Bo at times schemed things that either made no sense or were virtually impossible for guys to execute given their skills. Sometimes a teammate's screw up makes you look bad. It would be fun to sit down with Jay Foreman and guys like that and just listen to them break things down. I don't know which former Blackshirt it was but he said he "hated to go to games because he couldn't stand stupid fans making comments about things they had no clue about". That pretty much describes a good share of us so I like to try to be a little less stupid,:Cool:My week one break down...it was week one and we seen a bunch of teams struggle and some power 5 teams even lose during week 1. There are reasons why a lot off power 5 teams play push overs for week 1...because teams tend to struggle and not play their best football during week 1. I’m not going to dissect or look into this first game much at all. Simple put...our offense had an off game and our defense played great. Now it’s time to see how we do against Colorado. If things still look rough offensively....then we might have to worry a bit.
Rewatching the game, something else I've noticed, but not seen mentioned, is perimeter blocking by the receivers left ALOT to be desired.

And the perimeter runs were the only runs we gained yardage on. That's how bad our OL was.
See my post above. It just worked out perfectly for S Bama.
It didn't really look like they sold out to stop the run. They just did a better job at the LoS.
Me and you definitely watched two different games then. S Bama sent a number of blitzes. But hey, lets take this up more after the Colorado game. Our offense definitely has a few things to clean up. That’s for sure.
Let me make this clear...S Bama was bringing pressure more so earlier on. The second half was a bit different. But then again, our offense only had 14 snaps the whole second half of the game??? That’s crazy.
I think you must've watched a different game than most of us. Also, there is a huge difference between stacking the box and 'bringing pressure'. I think you meant that they were stacking the box.
That’s why our sweeps on off tackle runs worked. No idea why our down field passing after the 1st Q was so bad. I couldn’t see the WR on TV
Mike Williams was too on at least 3 plays I can think of that ended up unsuccessful. I haven’t had a chance to watch the TV broadcast yet, but from the stadium view, opportunities were there and pass pro wasn’t bad - just didn’t click for whatever reason.I saw Spielman running free several times...
I agree. They didn’t have to stack the box and were able to sit in a zone. AM couldn’t/wouldn’t make the throws. It didn't really look like they sold out to stop the run. They just did a better job at the LoS.
I'll add my thoughts on the defensive line:
Daniels brothers: Good, got good penetration at times and disrupted some plays. Darrion did really well coming off blocks and making plays and looks like he knows what he's doing far better than anybody else on the d line. Nervous about what does that says about the coaching.
Davis twins and other D ends: Bad, our defensive ends were regularly pushed back several yards against a small offensive line. When Carlos Davis is in at end, we should absolutely be stuffing the run, yet S. Alabama had several plays where they ran straight up the middle for 10 yards.
That's why I said 10 yard runs up the middle... Or maybe you just posted that to remind yourself, I'm not sure.their longest runs were 12 and 15 yards, with the latter coming on a reverse to a WR
the human memory: not very reliable!

Took a quick look at the play chart - their longest between the tackles runs were one for 6, two for 7, and one for 12. Which confirms what I remembered (and the stats show). Not sure what you are talking about? That's why I said 10 yard runs up the middle... Or maybe you just posted that to remind yourself, I'm not sure.
Whatever, against actual decent teams with our defensive ends getting pushed back and our linebackers filling the wrong spot, those plays are going to go for a lot more yards.Took a quick look at the play chart - their longest between the tackles runs were one for 6, two for 7, and one for 12. Don’t argue if that’s what actually happens. I haven’t had a chance to watch the broadcast yet, but I did have concerns with Mo and Honas early. That looked to get cleaned up as the game went on. Didn’t see huge concerns along the line; in fact, was impressed a few times that I remember to see guys stand up blockers and then shed to make the tackle. The fact our D linemen had as many/more tackles as any LBs outside of Mo says something.Whatever, against actual decent teams with our defensive ends getting pushed back and our linebackers filling the wrong spot, those plays are going to go for a lot more yards.
They didn't run between the tackles too much either. About half their total carries were from the qb. When they did run between the tackles with their running back, they did have some success running for 6, 7, and 12 yards like you said.Took a quick look at the play chart - their longest between the tackles runs were one for 6, two for 7, and one for 12.
