gee, if running between the tackles was working so well, why do you think they went away from it? fascinated to hear your thoughts.
Why did we go away from the TE when it was working? Coaches go away from what works all the time.

you think we should've given Stoll as many targets as S Bama had runs up the middle?

digging a pretty deep hole here, sir.

Allowing 80 yards rushing to a bad team isn't very impressive. Michigan State held their opponent to -60 yards rushing or something like that. Against good teams with the play of our defensive ends and linebackers, we're going to give up a lot more.

accumulating a net worth of $990M isn't very impressive because some people are worth $1B

Michigan State has one of the best defenses in the country. We do not.

like I said before, there are plenty of things we did poorly to pick on from this game. run defense is not one of them.

That’s why our sweeps on off tackle runs worked. No idea why our down field passing after the 1st Q was so bad. I couldn’t see the WR on TV
I specifically re-watched the game on DVD. Martinez had an absolutely horrible game. He missed wide open receivers (especially Mike Williams) on several occasions and tried to force it into Spielman (his favorite). His passes were off, he couldn't drop them in behind the defenders and he was very indecisive with his runs. He seemed to pull it down several times and then just hung around until he got hammered. We will need a lot more out of him going forward. I hope it's just a bad game. The O-Line did nothing, actually got dominated for a large part of the game. Jurgens got pushed around, and I think that might have been part of the reason his snaps went wild - he was worried about the guy in front of him shoving him off to the side. We will need to improve greatly at QB, OL, and offensive scheme in order to win Sat.

The point I was trying to make is our NT's, the Daniel's brothers looked good, while the DE's were rather poor. I don't care if it was 10 yards or 6 yards, that's the only point I was trying to make.

By the way, our run defense looked pretty good last year against Colorado and Troy, but then Michigan happened. I see a lot of the same things from our defensive line and linebackers that we saw last year. I hope we don't see another Michigan type game, but the jury's still out on that.

I'll add my thoughts on the defensive line:

Daniels brothers: Good, got good penetration at times and disrupted some plays. Darrion did really well coming off blocks and making plays and looks like he knows what he's doing far better than anybody else on the d line. Nervous about what does that says about the coaching.

Davis twins and other D ends: Bad, our defensive ends were regularly pushed back several yards against a small offensive line. When Carlos Davis is in at end, we should absolutely be stuffing the run, yet S. Alabama had several plays where they ran straight up the middle for 10 yards.

Exactly, not impressed with D coaching , our OL is weak and can't get the job done no matter the coaching.

Jurgens is a massive liability, receives the rag doll syndrome.

Wut? How was the def coaching bad? Elaborate. Because I saw a unit that played a good game and is leaps and bounds ahead of where they were a year ago

That is kind of amazing......we'd have been in deep, deep doo-doo if our defense wasn't racking up turnovers & TDs for us. "Especially" in the 2nd half.

Yeah it was our whole offensive line though. I'm very disappointed in how the returning starters played. Actually I thought Hixson was the most consistent. Jaimes was decent in pass blocking but was poor in run blocking. Farniok was the opposite.

On the defensive side, Tannor is a massive liability. I actually thought Alex Davis was decent for the most part. Might need to move someone over to that other OLB spot along with Domann.

For ILB's, Collin Miller looked way better than Honas. I always see Honas trying to shoot gaps and taking himself out of plays, yet he doesn't make many plays either. Miller did a good job of maintaining his responsibility while also going out and making plays. Barry didn't have his best game and all the linebackers need to work on their pass coverage assignments.

One thing the defense needs to do better is after the offense turns it over, they need to get stops, they gave up 2 td's but needed to keep them out of the end zone, much like last year in the first game.
