In a word, wow.

I'll be honest, probably the best speech I've seen in a very long time. It was very Presidential, it was energizing, it was inspiring, and most of all, it was INCLUSIVE. It honestly made me proud to be an American and wanting to be a part of fixing what we all see as a broken system.

It left me thinking, how could anyone watching that speech feel left out? Sadly, how will the DNC try to push the segregated victimization agenda which they do so well?

I felt bad for Trump's youngest kid afterwards, the one that's 12 or so. He looked really uncomfortable on stage and didn't want to be there.

The speech was okay but too long. It was more inclusive but that is the direction the GOP is going to have to go in There were probably some in the audience gritting their teeth at some of it but they're gonna have to get used to hearing that on a national platform.

Trump's comments about the mass shooting at the Orlando nightclub was interesting. He is trying to peel some LGBT voters from the Democrats. They've mainly been Democrat voters but OTOH the Democrats are trying to not offend Muslims to the extent of not speaking out strongly against fundamentalist Islam.

Still though, considering all the demographics I don't think Trump can win. We'll see.

His best line was the response to the applause given about his Orlando remarks.

Thiel's speech was pretty good too.

IMHO, Trump can sway those "blue dog" democrats in a way Hillary can't. How does she argue him when he says he's going to force those companies back to the states and punish them if we leave? From a political talking point standpoint she'll struggle answering that claim.

Thiel's speech was good and the line re. the bathrooms of "WHO CARES?" was good, although it didn't strictly make sense because people do care because they're battling over it. But I think the larger point was, the GOP is getting bogged down in these culture war issues over things like who can use bathrooms and as a result the larger economic issues are going unaddressed. If the GOP can spread that sentiment of "forget the small stuff and worry about the big stuff" then I think they'll be more successful in national campaigns.

That has been my argument for a while and worrying about the social stuff plays right into the DNC's hands. Let's fix the big stuff and then worry about the smaller stuff later.

You didn't watch the speech, that much is clear.
Wrong as always. I watched it until I fell asleep a little after 11. It was typical Trump. Unfortunately for him, the US doesn't have a one person government led by a dictator. And I thought you people like small government? Sit back and think if it was possible for one person to make that much of a difference, do you want it from a huge Federal government spending tons of money? I thought you nuts were against that as one of your fundamental beliefs.

If I ever become a Ponzi schemer, you would be someone that would be a target. You will believe any BS that falls along your agenda.

So you watched about 15 mins of a 70 minute speech, and it was most certainly not a typical Trump evening

I have a dog. He is more worldly than you from what everyone can see by your actions and posts.

From bru's and doc's reactions, Trump must've hit a homerun last night. Perhaps Bernie might jump in yet, but I still think he is done.

They do seem rather bothered by Trump's speech.
Yes, I am bothered by fools believing a con artist attempting to scam his way into the Presidency. You just catching on? I knew you weren't very bright but that is amazing.

I told you months ago, but you, Bama, and others, "Ah Hillary's got this. Trump is nothing". My Bernie prediction was just for now. Trump is going to have the poll lead after the Dem convention as it stands now. I thought the superdelegates might jump, but Trump isn't going to have that much of a lead. We're doomed.

I never took you for such a populist. That speech was hot, pandering garbage.

Independents don't think so. Sorry man, Trump is going to be your next President whether you like it or not.
LOL, no doubt. And soon the job fairy will be around to spread high paying manufacturing jobs all around. Merry Trump Day comrade.

OK? Are you saying his speech wasn't filled with populist nonsense? Sounded like Bernie Sanders to me.

I didn't watch any of it. I have a fun daytrip tomorrow I had to start planning last night. Finish prep work this afternoon. Shotgun shells, popper bugs for my fly rod, and downloading maps to phone.

I've made my platform known on here numerous times. I'm sorry, his speech resonated with me for multiple reasons:

1. I'm a proud American first and foremost, his speech touched on that from a Nationalism stand point from start to finish. It was a rally speech, not a lecture on how I should feel bad about my beliefs which we'll hear all next week from canklesaurus.

2. I don't believe we're on the right track in this country and I don't believe we have been for a while. He spoke to that.

3. From a foreign policy stand point, he captured exactly how Hillary performed as SoS. Period.

4. He tried to unite, he didn't divide at all.

And here is a reality that has stuck with me through all of this: he has actually created real jobs for real people, she hasn't.

After that speech, I don't know if I'll be voting for him, but I'll be honest, he gave me something to think about. Prior to the speech I was voting for Johnson.

65-70% of Americans agree with that...we must have some of the 30-35% of those that like the track of the country as it is now and will be with Hillary.

The left leaning members of the board are not happy this morning. Let's be honest, he has ample opportunity to undo what he did last night, but if he can hold that presence, he is going to smoke her.

It makes me laugh when Bru calls Trump a con man in light of who he is supporting for President. It's like he is completely out of touch with the reality of who he supports.

You're joking, right? This is sarcasm, right?
No, I'm not. Everyone I've talked to who watched it outside of lockstep liberals agree that it was a good speech. I see the lockstep liberals on this board agree with you. Shocking.

Was it a good speech? It was ok. Was it the best? Don't get yourself ahead too far now. Trump should give his speech writer a bump in pay. That's what tickles me about all you all. You take these words that these candidates (notice the PLURAL....meaning BOTH) say on stage as "their words". They aren't. They are written by a writer for them. They read over it and say "great job" or "do it over".

I'll be honest, the best speech I saw was from Pastor Mark Burns. That was great and motivating. I wonder if he wrote it (sounded like a sermon, so perhaps he did) or someone else for him.

He may indeed win.......and still only needs 270 EV's to do it......but I don't know how he "smokes" Hillary assuming her current support (women and minorities, especially blacks and Latinos) holds together and actually votes. Meanwhile, while I appreciate his speech last night fired-up his current constituency (pissed-off older white men) I myself don't know yet to what extent his message crosses over. But if Trump did nothing else, he probably convinced close to 100% of that current support to actually go to the polls and vote rather than sit out this election.

But whether or not you're interested in what she has to say (and I know you will be) Hillary does get the last word next week......which, after recent conventions, seems to make a difference. Maybe that won't be the case this year.

Just curious how many "lockstep liberals" you've "talked to" since Trump walked off the dais 12 hours ago. For the record, I live in the blood reddest area of the State of Ohio....an area which should be waving Trump flags and doing back flips this morning......and I haven't spoken with a single individual who liked, disliked, or was neutral about Trump's speech.

Of course, maybe you were speaking figuratively and not literally (or maybe you just know more people than I do).
