This line confused me. Show you how tariffs allow government to pick winners and losers, ie which middle class jobs are available? That's Tariff 101. They protect an industry (steel makers). That industry will then hire more workers. Earnings for the steel companies and hiring of steel employees, means the price of steel will go up. Steel prices going up devastates end users of steel (car manufacturers, household good manufacturers, and so on and so on) in America, meaning foreign end users of steel (their steel prices did not go up) can now sell their products for less than American businesses. That's the definition of government interference.

Not an easy or easy to hear answer to this problem, but it's not a new problem. Technology changes, behavior changes, markets change. Towns, areas, industries shouldn't just sit back and wait for the government to bring back their golden goose. Pittsburgh moved on and is flourishing. Check out Mobile, AL; Greenville, SC; Asheville, NC, etc, etc, etc. Change happens.

We already know how this turns out.

I will never in a million years understand this logic. We want to have equal purchasing power with other countries? F that. I'll take being the bad *** country that buys what everyone else makes.
I wish that we could just have a tax on goods instead of a income tax. There are way too many accountants.

Of course you would. It puts a disproportionate share of the tax burden on the lower income folks.
Everybody pays the same, what a novel idea. Everybody is treated the same. Rich people buy more, spend more and it would be the perfect way to keep everybody involved with their govt.

Republican expanded the food stamp program in 2002
23mill to 48 mill. The only President who presided over the worst recover ever. Too bad SNL didn't do a skit where Obama was never PResident, the economy recovered like it norally does, Michele married another broad and Obama ended up back in Kenya.

Straight tax on everything you buy, no tax on your payroll check. Socialism is never about treating everybody the same unless you mean they starve to death, are murdered bu govt guards and the leaders become rich. Sounds like DC, doesn't it?

You're ignoring that the rich would pay that tax on a lower percentage of their income. Rish people dont have to spend all of their money, poor folks do.

Since when did that change? Govt giving back in all those Govt EITC, refunds for more tax than they paid, how is that fair?

It's not. It's a long road between get rid of EITC and bring on national sales tax.

I know, anybody who thinks you can just tax he rich and not tax the low income earners at all is just going to cause more debt and pain in the end.

Everything!

A person's food intake is pretty much the same, rich or poor. What you are saying is, poor people will have to go without some of their food......pretty much, right?

EDIT: And by "poor" I'm referring to those with a wage earning job, not welfare lazy bums.

You rail against welfare, but then ***** about a tax incentive that only benefits working families. It is an incentive to do the thing you are always talking about, have a job.

With all the "poor little rich people" talk that goes on, I have never once seen a rich person give all their money away so that they aren't so burdoned by taxes.

If any CEOs have a problem, they can quit, donate all of their money to charity, and take a job at McDonalds so that they too can enjoy the EITC.

Agreed. I'd rather the majority (middle class steel end user employees) have jobs than the minority (middle class steel jobs). We both want the same thing, I just prefer the way that actually works. :americanflag::americanflag::americanflag:

it had fallen to slightly less than 44 million before he left office.......of course the republican expansion of the food stamp program under Bush allowed for this massive growth. But you wouldn't know that.

Steel end users are clean? I'm not so sure. And I'm not basing my opinion on clean, dirty, opportunities or whatever else.....just on the +/- of jobs. Steel end user industry dwarfs steel industry.

Thats right it got to 25 mill under bush and 48 mill under Obama. I'm glad Obama reduced it or maybe it was Trump that started the real reduction. There really is no reason for the numbers to be above 23 million now.
