Wrestling TRI-MEET (Minny, Purdue, Rutgers) MATCH THREAD

[bigmatt718]

A locking hands call against Clark gives Nijenhuis the first point of the bout.

Clark still on top, trailing 1-0

These refs are trash. They'd be booed out of the RAC by 5K RU fans in a normal season.

[Lex Knapp]

Nijenuis keeps Clark down the rest of the period. Clark trails 3-0 as the match heads into the third.

Clark chooses neutral to start the third.

[SCNJ]

That locked hands call was blatant

[SCNJ]

Going to have to win all 4 remaining matches or win 3 with a Turley pin to force criteria

[Lex Knapp]

Nijenhuis able to score a takedown as time expires, giving him a 5-0 win.

Purdue leads Rutgers 15-6

[Lex Knapp]

Jackson Turley gets his opportunity at 174-lbs, taking on Emil Soenhlen at 174-lbs

[RUTrack94]

man ... RU started out 4-0 against Purdue and now back to back losses ... Thought we owned Purdue ... know it is the B1G but man assuming we lose both matches at 0-4 it is feeling like a participation trophy year ... hopefully we wrestle UMD this year, might go winless in other matches.

[SCNJ]

If we’re down 6 heading into HWT, I wonder if we see McDermott

[MS-RU]

Besides Sammy, we are pretty bad in scrambles. More often than not, we end up either in bad positions or giving up points.

[Lex Knapp]

No score after the first period. This is a must win for Rutgers.

Turley starting the second period on bottom

[Lex Knapp]

Turley strikes first with an early escape, making the score 1-0

[Lex Knapp]

Turley follows up with a go-behind to secure a takedown. Soehnlen escapes, making it 3-1

[Lex Knapp]

Period ends on the feet. Turley still out in front 3-1.

Soehnlen starts the third period on bottom

[MS-RU]

Turley looks great, he needs to be in the lineup full time.

[SCNJ]

I want Turley in the lineup moving forward. He just rag dolled his opponent over his shoulder from his knees. That was incredible.

[Lex Knapp]

Soenhlen escapes, but Turley is able to get a takedown shortly after. Turley rides out the match, with a RT point, wins 6-2.

Rutgers now behind 15-9, with a huge match here at 184-lbs between John Poznanski and Max Lyon

[koleszar]

1st time I've been excited to watch a 174 lb match in years. Takedowns I thought they were outlawed by Rutgers wrestlers at 174.

[Clearscreen5]

Freakin' love watching Turley!!

[Lex Knapp]

Poznanski's positioning is so good for a true freshman

[tfio]

Roll with Clark and Turley from here on out

[bigmatt718]

I'm all for the youth movement as they wrestle like they WANT to be in the lineup. No complacency.

[JudgeSmails56]

Please no more Aguilar

[Lex Knapp]

Period ends on the feet, with Poznanski maintaining a 2-1 lead.

Poz starts the second period on defense

[Lex Knapp]

Poznanski hips over Lyon to get a reversal, going up 4-1

[Clearscreen5]

What a reversal by Poz!

[MS-RU]

Poz is a bad man already

[Lex Knapp]

Lyon escapes, to make the score 4-2

[Lex Knapp]

Period ends 4-2, with Poz coming close to another takedown as time expires.

Lyon going down to start the third

[Lex Knapp]

Lyon escapes, making this a one point match with 1:45 left in the third period

[tfio]

Wow that shot was so quick

[Lex Knapp]

Poz with another takedown on a knee-pull single to make it 6-3. Lyon escapes shortly after, making it 6-4. Poz currently holding 1:01 of RT

[hoochie302]

Poz is fun to watch

[SCNJ]

Poz has already proven he is AA caliber. Would love to see him get his match vs Brooks to see where he stands against the elites of the weight class

[MS-RU]

Poz with another huge win!! Kid is incredible.

[Lex Knapp]

Poz walks away with another big win, defeating Max Lyon 7-4!

This kid is FOR REAL

[MS-RU]

Now a chance for Janzer to get some redemption from last week's disappointment.

[Lex Knapp]

Team score is 15-12, Purdue. Billy Janzer taking on Thomas Penola in a huge bout

[SCNJ]

Janzer trying to hit a knee pick. Nearly had one grabbed

[Lex Knapp]

Scoreless first period between Janzer and Penola.

Penola going on bottom to start the second period

[koleszar]

Penola didn't try one shot that entire 1st but no stalling. Janzer got no reward for pushing the action.
