What if Cameron shocks the CBB world and comes back? I know it's a .001% chance, but in this age of college basketball with NIL money and endorsements, it's a very different landscape than it was just a few years ago.

Would be nice . What if he simply don’t want to end up in Brooklynn where he is projected to go at three or four so he comes back ? Very wishful thinking but wouldn’t be shocking . I do think he is gone though .

Sorry if this has already been discussed but it's now looking even more likely that seniors will get a 5th year.

How does getting Maliq Brown back for another season sound?

Sounds like a no-brainer to me, but would he want to reprise his role?

I imagine he could earn big bucks and start a number of places.

I guess it all would depend if he wants an NC or the big money .

Question

How does it work, i imagine Brown has or is about to graduate. So would he be a grad school student, if so, do you have to take a certain amount of credits at Duke or any NCAA institution to play? Was never quite sure how that worked

Agree with shey & Mac, I think Coach Scheyer is still trying to recruit Graves or get another serviceable 5.

if the NCAA grants the 5th year to all student athletes and Duke was able to get another season of Maliq Brown, oh my…..

I don't think the new 5th year of eligibility would apply to '25-'26 seniors. It's too late in the game for people to adjust for that, and after the portal has already closed? Imagine being the guy who gets bumped further from the rotation by Malik's return and no longer has the option of entering the portal.

I love brown but he’s redundant with the Belmont big. Need a big who can shoot. It appears they have good depth but one Pat foot issue and it gets bare.

Guess we wait for Cam

This is great news. With Sarr, Patrick, Caleb and Cayden we have a good veteran presence. Should allow the freshmen to have less pressure. Add to that Blackwell and his shooting … we will be very competitive. Deepest backcourt in the country.
I think we should be able to get by with a lot of 3g sets with Sarr. John will have to keep a rotation going. But I really like the potential.

Why am I seeing on Twitter that we're looking at Sarr's former teammate from Barcelona, Boumtje Boumtje? Looking like he might reclassify from 2027 to 2026
I know Keita has visited too. Sarr’s other teammate. He’s 7’2” but many are waiting to see what f he heads to the draft . Haven’t heard anything on the other except mentioned with UNC looking at him.

This stat is very telling about NIL in CBB -
Only 71 players entered the 2026 NBA Draft, per the NBA. Down from 106 last year and a peak of 363 in 2021. That's the lowest early-entrant total since 2003.

Even though it's a small sample size, that's a big enough disparity and long enough period to draw that conclusion. How stacked any one class is perceived to be can't really account for the entire difference. In addition to the $, being able to transfer so easily surely factors in, as well. That freedom and hope of a fresh start surely encourages guys to give college a little longer.

For all the things we purists and old heads grumble about with how the game has changed, if this current arrangement leads to guys staying in college longer, it's a step in the direction we prefer. If these rules had been in place a decade ago, maybe we keep Cam Reddish or Cassius Stanley or Gary Trent, Jr a little longer. If those rules were still in place today, we might have lost Slim, Cayden, and Dame after only 1 season.
