Despite how 247 rated him, he only had two scholarship offers, ISU and Iowa. As a walk on, he is awesome to have! But let's temper our expectations.

You do realize he committed to Iowa April 22,2017 as a sophomore, right? It’s natural he wouldn’t have any other offers, he told everyone else to get lost well before that I would suspect. Let’s celebrate the fact he chose Nebraska, with no guarantees.
GBR!

And offers are self reported to top that off. Him committing to Iowa so early on and him being firm with the Hawkeyes, he had no reason to update his offers with 24/7 or Rivals. He had the lone one he wanted.

Sounds like this was a I don't want to play football, Ok I do want to play football. Well **** I can't play for Iowa because of Medical scholarship. Nebraska I pick you. Happy we got him no matter what. I think this kid could contribute in a big way. Didn't see, does he have to sit 1 year and 3 year left?

I hope he starts and becomes an All-American, might slow down the dipshit Iowa trolls. I think he may have a grudge.

That's a good question. He was already at Iowa a year and re-shirted, so does that mean he has 4 years to play 4 years unless he gets some kind of waiver? I dunno, the rules around that **** get pretty weird and then there are always waivers, so...

It still depends on how hard this kid wants to work for playing time.. thats true for anyone at any position.. hard work will pay off..if they dont want to work to get bigger faster or stronger they dont play... in the playbook..in the weightroom...i like the addition i want to hear they are working rhere butts off to see the field

while true in some cases .... this notion that if a kid doesn’t succeed, get playing time etc etc it is because they just didnt work hard enough is a fallacy.

some are more talented than others
Good deal of luck also plays a role

lots of people work extremely hard and sometimes things just don’t work out. This is true in life and sports.

hard work doesn’t guarantee you anything ...

That is big if we can get 4 years. Especially because this wasn't a situation where the kid wasn't good enough, got buried on the depth chart, got pissed and transferred. He was a 4 star kid with offer from Ohio St, Oregon, ND, Fl St. Sounded like he went through some mental stuff and decided he didn't want to play football anymore. Iowa gave him a medical scholarship. Taking this apparently means you can never again play for that program. So when he decided he wanted to play Iowa was no longer an option. So he had no choice but to move on. I think we got a good one for a long time.

Yup! That sounds like everything I've read. Iowa even went out of their way to help him stay on scholarship by claiming a medical problem when in reality it was a psychiatric problem, so good on them for working with their player, too. But yeah, the downside I guess is, you can't play for Iowa again once you accept the Medical retirement scholarship. In this case, the situation just worked out in our favor if this kid wants to be a big-***, mean lineman again.

He wanted to go to Iowa, committed early I believe and I think that effected the amount of offers he received.

Just a needed point of clarification- ‘psychiatric problem’ is in reality a ‘medical problem’

If you read the previous two posts to this post of yours, you would have already seen the matter was addressed. No need to point it out again.

If he has to sit out a year then he will have 3 years of eligibility left. It would surprise me a little if he got a waiver.

In reality it won't matter this year, he hasn't been an active part of Iowa's football program from my understanding so he won't be anywhere near football shape and it's almost July. He's going to need a year on the weights just to be ready to play again. No way was he going to show up at NU, get his size and strength back, AND know the playbook well enough to make an immediate impact. You're talking about a guy maybe being a rotational player by late in the season.

You'd be trying to basically get him a medical redshirt for mental health issues so he could be a 6th year senior in 2024 and I don't know that the NCAA does that.

I really don't think this is the case at all. Sounds like he was battling depression and decided to give up football. Iowa listed his injury as a back injury so he could claim a medical waiver, retire from football, yet still remain on scholarship with them. The catch apparently is with this type of medical scholarship if you decided you want to play again, you can't play for that school again. So there was really nothing Iowa or he could do. He had no choice but to leave. I think he even put out a tweet explaining nothing but love and respect for Iowa program. Either way yes Im sure for Iowa fans it would be a hard pill to swallow if he has success here.
