IU at 29 is ridiculous. They've done NOTHING for the past several years. Yes, they look good in advance of the coming season, but 29?
They were 48 last year. They lost nothing of value and add Jalen Hood-Schifino and a couple other good recruits. I could see them being 20ish spots better

Not a lot of respect for the conference. No big 10 schools in the top 10, and only two in the top 20.

I like it simply to give Pike bulletin board material...."they say we're the 46th best team in the country...and 9th of B1G teams on the list..."

They don't understand what a decade is.
How can you put two teams in the top 10 with new coaches?

Indiana has been trading on Bobby Knight’s tenure since he’s left. They’re like the Miami in college football in that they have a huge name but aren’t any better than South Florida. Let them finish above .500 in conference play before they act like they’re relevant. Not even the best team in their state in their conference (and haven’t been for years).

Keep in mind the guy who put this list together has probably seen all of 12 years of college basketball. Which is probably why he is disregarding past decades: (70s, 80, 90s, etc.). He hasn't seen them.

Gen Z don't give af about the nineteen-hundreds.
You're free to start your own list of "Top 50 men's basketball programs of all time."

There's nothing wrong with a top 50 list of current top programs. Much more relevant to me than who was great decades ago [Note that I'm in my 50s, not a Gen Z kid].

Should we include Depaul or UMass since they were so fantastic 30-40 years ago?

We have won 3 of the last 5 against Maryland and appear higher on most early B1G projections for this season. It is not laughable to suggest we could be better than them now and in the next few seasons.

Indiana would be nothing special IMO if TJD had gone pro unless their backcourt made great strides. Critical home game against them this year.

It just shows the lack of respect some still give Rutgers even if it's a subconscious bias.

Imagine thinking your program is CURRENTLY better the same year you have to fire your coach bc the program is failing.

Makes no sense unless you are factoring in historical performance which this ranking specifically says they are not considering

Am I supposed to know who "College Basketball Intellect" is?

Or is this another of those "some random guy in the middle of nowhere who nobody knows about said something bad about Rutgers. I'm going to get upset" things?

The account only has 4k followers.

Maryland literally was so bad their coach just got fired

Meanwhile Rutgers finished 4th place and got a double bye

Objectively one program is currently better

I wouldnt say that..Maryland won a share of the conference title in 2020 or was 2nd

program wise they still are above RU, they have advantages over us that we have not surpassed yet

Agree. Maryland is Maryland. The name in hoops is still huge. Silly to think otherwise. Although they don’t need me to recruit for them. I see seton hall above us too

Big 10 basketball is overrated and it’s style of physicality etc is in many ways outdated

Conference also doesn’t recruit well and the big flashy names go to schools in other conferences

Problem is this conference has too many Greg Gard / Matt Painter / Fran McCaffrey types who do well in regular season because of the conference style and then get exposed during NCAAs

Conference needs more coaches who can recruit better and install flashier more up and down systems whereby ncaa success is sustainable and maybe a championship that has alluded this conference in 20 years can occur.

Iowa was 5th in the country in scoring last season, Purdue was 15th. You're barking up the wrong tree with those two coaches.
Otherwise, I see what you're saying and don't disagree but it's a chicken/egg thing. I imagine recruiting to Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Minnesota and a few other B1G schools is drastically different than recruiting to ACC/SEC schools. What kind of kids do you think are most inclined to go to those schools?

A list of current top 50 programs would simply be a ranking of the top 50 teams. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I wouldn't include DePaul or UMass in a top 50 all-time programs because they couldn't sustain success and have had long periods of irrelevancy.

I have many issues with the ranking, but I’ll point out it’s supposed to consider how well you’re set up for the future, too. So current level of recruiting and basic “built-in” advantages will be judged alongside recent success.
