I think it is fair to point out poor QB play when it occurs .... the simple fact the play has been poor the last three years doesn't change that fact

we aren't grading on the curve ... poor QB play is poor QB play ... and last week we got a 12/31 with 2 picks and numerous other missed opportunities stinker from our 4th year starting QB

and if he stinks it up against OSU this week it should be called out again .. just the same as if he has a great game and goes 19/25 with 2 TDs the QB play will be praised
Wisconsin hard poor (if not worse) QB play...and won.

yes .... we should have had the advantage at the QB position but instead both teams got QB play typical of a freshman in his first year of play ... given all other aspects being equal the game in which we should have had a distinct advantage at QB becomes a coin flip

are we suppose to be content that our QB with 40 starts matched the play of their freshman with 5?

I understand the sentiment of the original poster - he and I tend to agree on a lot of topics, but in this case, this post has no purpose on our fan board. I'm not saying a fan board is intended to pump sunshine all the time, but calling out a player and pinning the entire loss on him is a bit much for me. This is a 22 kid playing for a scholarship (i.e., not making millions of dollars) and I don't believe this type of post should be headlining the Husker board. We are supposed to be the best fans in college football and this post doesn't exhibit that very well.
My thoughts exactly. Why post this now-more than two days after the game? One player never loses a game. You win and lose as a team. And the crap to start out the post by saying how he's been a big defender of TA rings hollow. It's like because he's big defender of TA he can trash him and it's OK. Well, no it isn't. You don't defend someone in the past so you can build up brownie points and then cash them in when you decide you want to trash them. Worthless, ridiculous, unnecessary thread.

Sorry but this is another Bo Pelini was right thread.

That's why you cowards shy away from the fact Wisconsin ran the same plays that dogged Bo Pelini.....smdh ran over us...thank God they threw INTS or they would have ran the same 2 plays for 400 yards.

Cowards.

They played a senior too.

Thank you..but let them keep looking like
idiots.

Forget the fact that the so called great receiving corps can't beat coverage.

I get it..Tommy didn't bail out the rest of the answers poor play.

Parts of this reinforce the need for a QB that can throw first and run second, instead of trying to make a thrower out of a running back. when the run gets shut down, you are screwed if you can't throw the ball to the best bunch of receivers we have ever had in one sitting.

how many starts does that senior have???

you are right our 4th year starter matched the play of their freshman and the senior backup that the freshman beat out

hurray!!!

He's a senior doesn't matter..he should know better...he walked right in and made the same mistake without pressure.

With a statue!!!

When you play action you can do that... oh wait you have to be able to run the ball to do that.

Their back up had 120 yards on 11 carries...it's all the QBs fault....all they had to do was stop the run and we win this game.

nope ... keep deflecting

if you can't admit there should be a big difference between a 4 year starter and senior with little if any experience I can't help you

on second thought I can see why you might think that after seeing little if any growth between our QBs 1st 5 starts and his 40th start

I get what you are saying...but don't you think the defenses have an impact on things? One guy was going against a really really good defense...the other guy was going against a decent defense

QB battle? There should be no battle next year. Tanner Lee will be a really good player.
You could be right, but how would the regular fans know this? We haven't seen Tanner take snaps in this offense yet. If you get to see the practices, then it would be great to hear your analysis on what you've seen.

I have talked to a couple of guys at practice. The consensus is Lee makes all the throws, all of them. He isn`t a statue and is athletic enough to make guys miss and run some. He has very good pocket presence and awareness.

There should be...also I expect senior WR to be able to get open against garbage defenses..but that doesn't happen either.

I also expect my QB to not have pressure in his face from the moment he snaps the ball.

lets look at QB play against Wisconsin's defense this year

TA ----- 12/31---- 153yd ---- 0TD/2picks ---- 67.3 QBR

LSU -----12/21 --- 131 -------- 1/2---------------95.9
Akron----9/19 ----- 108---------0/1 ------------- 84.9
GaSt ---- 20/29 --- 269 --------1/0 -------------- 158.3
MSU -----18/38 --- 224 --------0/3 ---------------81.1
Mich ------20/32 ---219 --------1/1 ---------------124
OSU ----- 17/29 --- 226--------1/1 -------------- 128.6
Iowa -------17/33--- 153-------0/0 ----------------90.5

you can make a case that Wisconsin faced the worst play out the QB position they have seen all year last week .... and yet the game went into overtime .... I would be sick if were on that team

we also faced a Wisconsin defense that was its most depleted from injuries all year

we simply got atrocious QB play last week ...

we should be celebrating the coaching and play of this team that they were able to get the game into overtime despite getting that type of play from the QB position

That's cool to hear. We also heard the coaches say that POB had program changing talent, so I would suspect that there will still be a QB battle Spring '17.

I'll be glad to see and hear about the QB battle next spring.

Armstrong will fade from my memory even faster than Martinez did.

7 years of bad QB play.

Can NU get a QB that can play? Both of those QBs are on Bo.

I sure hope Riley can do better.

QB play was bad...that's not why we loss...in college football a high rating is around 140...to put your stats in context..those Qbs sucked too..so that doesn't mean much...0 tds 3 picks..lmao..a 3rd pick and we don't make it to OT..

Yes...so tell me how did we get into position to score those points to tie the game...was it a big run play, pick 6, punt return, please show us the stats for that.

Only Michigan, Ohio St and Georgia St has decent numbers....you know why...better coaching.

The coaches don't call plays that suit their QB as well...as those schools. That's fact.

Watch the plays OSU runs for Barrett.

very few people, if any, are arguing that TA isn't our best option (clearly he is) --- but just because he is our best option doesn't mean he is a quality QB

he's the least poor of our options at this point

This is basically where I'm at. He's our best option so we're going to have to ride him as far as he can go. Hopefully he'll wake up against OSU (and the rest of the season) but don't be surprised if he flubs it up along the way. It's what we have, like it or not.

I still wonder if the op was bait, but even if it was, I'll bite. The last seven years, we have had 2 qb's take nearly every snap. I suspect it's unheard of in NU football history to have qb's start three and a half years --and we've had it happen back to back. Not surprisingly, the two guys will hold virtually every NU qb record, yet we know both mostly played so long because qb recruiting was a disaster under the previous regime. Clearly, that will change starting next year, and ironically, competition will probably be so fierce that we will surely be debating possible transfers by the guys who lose the competition. Will we see better quarterbacking immediately? I doubt it but not because we won't have much more talent. The problem is none of these guys will have taken a single snap in this program, much less three and a half years worth. Tommy and TM each had a unique opportunity to really develop, but I don't think either took advantage. Tommy, in particular, still looks much like the same guy he's been since his freshman year.

You keep showing a graph that's shows only 3 Qbs played decent football against Wisconsin's defense....sorry you're confused about the graph...in the NFL...Your graph would mean more..

So basically this confirms what I have known for some time.

We have one of the worst qb s in the country.

Even the 3rd conversions couldn't help us.

Roll out runs will help us the rest of the way.

Sad that NU is ranked no 10 in the polls and doing it with one of the worst QB s in the country.

Thanks Bo.

Guess what Tommy will be the starter for the rest of the year.

yes he will and he absolutely should be ... but that doesn't mean his play can't be scrutinized

I will be among the first on here to give kudos after the OSU game if he plays well

For the record, I'm not suggesting that play of individual players can't be scrutinized. I am suggesting the tone of the subject was inappropriate. To call out a single player for losing the game is a bit over the top for me. That's all.

Exactly...he played bad..,I wished better, but it didn't happen.

But to say he is the reason we loss is ridiculous.

Especially when the defense could have held them to a field goal we would have had a chance to go into OT regardless...They didn't do their job either.

He can make all the throws the staff require him to make. He's good in the screen game and he's got a nice deep ball too. As they say, he can really spin it! His wheels are good enough that he can keep defenses honest. He can scramble fairly well when he needs to.

I think we need to keep the zone read game with him just to make the opposing defenses having to prepare for it. The NFL scouts like him a lot. We'll just have to wait and see how things go under the lights so to speak but he has a chance to be a 1st rounder. Gotta do it on the field but that 1st round projection is not off base.

He does have eyes in the back of head. He has a sense of when to step up into the pocket to deliver throws. He can move the pocket adequately. I'm really high on the guy. We are very fortunate to have him. I have heard he may be a one and done guy. I don't know about that though. We need him to stay the 2 years.
