Do my eyes deceive me? UK is ranked higher than Duke in the net rankings. After last nights win, the Cats moved up to 29 from 35. Duke is 30 moving down from 29. The world is righteous once again.
We also have a higher SOS, OOC SOS, better record in Quad 1 wins and yet they are seeded 2-3 lines higher than we are in most projections.Do my eyes deceive me? Most definitely. https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/what-are-college-basketball-net-rankings-bm10/Does committee use NET as a factor in seeding?
Does committee use NET as a factor in seeding?
Yes. And it is the ONLY ranking system the committee uses.Does committee use NET as a factor in seeding?
So..... what you're saying is that .. there's a CHANCE ??Lets not forget about little brother. Clawed their way up 2 spots from #307 to #305. There's still time left in the season.
I can't make any sense out of the NET ratings system.
I think it really puts a lot of weight on road wins and it seems it doesn’t really matter who that road team is that you beat.
Duke jumped up after beating Syracuse. Syracuse is pretty awful.
Heck, I bet uNC jumped way up after their eeked out 2 point win over quad 4 Notre Dame last night.
I think many of those bracket guru types are in for a rude awakening come selection Sunday. Then again, they do tend to give us the shaft. We also have a higher SOS, OOC SOS, better record in Quad 1 wins and yet they are seeded 2-3 lines higher than we are in most projections.![]()
So that is why Lunardi bumped Duke a seed line after they beat U of L?Lets not forget about little brother. Clawed their way up 2 spots from #307 to #305. There's still time left in the season.
Yeah that is my point. I'm not saying as of today we deserve a 6 seed but more so that Duke doesn't either. That Duke is much higher than UK on brackets is ridiculous. Not necessarily because UK is a great team as much as Duke isn’t better than UK by any measure.
I see you still have avatar pics going on brother.I think many of those bracket guru types are in for a rude awakening come selection Sunday. Then again, they do tend to give us the shaft.
I was listening to Lunardi a couple of weeks ago when he still had UNC in his bracket. One of the announcers asked him why he still had them making the tourney. He said it wasn't that he believed they belonged but what he thought the committee would do because of UNC's name recognition. So basically he was saying the committee was biased and didn't always put the teams who deserved to be there in the tournament.
THREAD WINNER. Couldn't have summarized my feelings any better. Well done. That Duke is much higher than UK on brackets is ridiculous. Not necessarily because UK is a great team as much as Duke isn’t better than UK by any measure.
Well, of course! Where have you been?! Been wondering about you.I see you still have avatar pics going on brother.![]()
Had some family issues over the past year and haven’t been posting since the beginning of last March. Trying to get back in the swing of things now. Thanks for asking.Well, of course! Where have you been?! Been wondering about you.
The problem with what someone is ranked in Net when you play them is the that model will not be accurate at all early in the season when it doesn’t have enough data. Also what would you do for everyone’s first game of the season when no team has any metrics going into it.Agreed. The thing that drives me nuts are the quad wins. As I understand it if you beat a quad 1 team in November and by February they are quad 2, you no longer get the quad 1 win.
Makes no sense to me....IMHO it should just be what it is when you play them and that's it. Quads cannot possibly factor in injuries, etc.

Yeah it’s odd to try and follow. At the end of the day, none of it really matters- the committee will seed based off of match ups, storylines, and ratings. Not sure, they don't pay me to figure it out.
I get what you are saying, I just think it is moronic to have a quad 1 and then it tanks a week or two later because a team goes cold or something.
It certainly isn't a perfect system, seems broken tbh.
